I'm assuming change tactics means the use of ground troops?
they haven't specified.

while that would be my personal assumption, i wouldn't jump to that conclusion yet.
They don't have much of a choice unless they use the spec op's as their fighting force along side the rebels.
that's the other possibility i see.

There are at least 480 Special Ops troops in Libya right now.

250 JTF-2(Canada)
approx 50 SAS(UK)
40 CSOR (Canada)
20 CJIRU (Canada)
120 Task Force Arrowhead(Canada)
and an unknown number of CIA(US)

at one point there were a large number of other Special forces units there shortly after Moussa Koussa defected to England, but the other forces have had confirmation of their departure from Libyan soil.

I would put CIA SAD at twenty to thirty in country, max. The CIA is no were near as powerful as it is shown in the movies and is most likely deploying the teams to protect American interests and Humanitarian centers in country.
By the why where did you get the number on Task Force Arrowhead? I didn't hear of any numbers being released.
Harper, yesterday on the campaign road :)

he was asked about military budgeting, and he replied with something about supporting the 120 TFA and 250 JTF-2 troops in Libya as well as protecting Arctic sovereignty. Basically it was a footnote in his speech justifying the $20 billion increase in military spending.

(if you are Canadian you can get a fair amount of specific details from election campaign speeches from Incumbent parliament members.

We arnt going to send in troops. The opposition to such a tactic would be huge as you would be putting British or American or Canadian lives in danger, and we couldnt attack tripoli as it has civilian gaddafi supporters.

i think protecting 550,000 people in Misrata in compliance with UN Resolution 1973 is greater then public outcry

other fact of the matter is its get scrutinized for doing something or for doing nothing, i would rather it be doing something.
indeed.

In Canadian PM's words "We'll apologize for it later"
albeit he was referring to excess patriotism during the winter Olympics, but it applies here.

an apology for action will be accepted more readily than an apology for inaction in the end.

I am Canadian but I never really cared for election campigns. I simply find political droning too boring, as they seem to always focus more on rivalry and less on critical issues, though I do agree on the incumbent politcians comment.

Hillary Clinton says that Gaddafi sent a 3-page long 'Nonsensical rambling' letter to the US asking them to try and convince the International community to withdraw. They responded by telling them they would do so if Gaddafi would Surrender and go into exile.

Some can come away from reading "War and Peace" thinking it a simple adventure story, while others can read the ingredients on a gum wrapper and unlock the secrets of the universe.

We need to do more.

Rebel forces have taken the town of Brega and have pushed Gaddafi forces back 20Km further. in the push the Al Jazeera vehicle was destroyed by a volley of rockets from Gaddafi forces, the reporters were not in the vehicle

That's two pieces of good news today. Hopefully the rebels stay put in Brega for a bit so they can coordinate their next steps better than they did the last time.

Rebels are gonna want revenge. This could spiral out of control.

Torture and execution seem worse than civil war. This could also hurt the rebel public image, as so far only the loyalist forces have commited war crimes but if the western media finds out that rebels torture loyalist troops for revenge...things could go down hill.
