there you go

sorry i was wrong about 10 rockets/missiles, it was 45 rockets missiles and mortars.

according to Al Jazeera it was a SPIKE anti-tank rocket that hit the bus.

Can't find anything on al jazeera about a Spike missile.
vov it'd be moronic to waste an expensive anti tank munition on a bus.

The Gulf Cooperation Council is pushing for the exit of Yemen's President

If the Yemen situation spirals out of control like Libya...

i think the UN understands NATO can only take one problem at a time here

also, it seems the United States Military is "deeply concerned"(i think this was the term anyway) about Misrata

If you stumble accross major information not in the OP, I implore you to please post it in the forum and make others aware.

Please do not Bump unless it is accompianied by discussion or new information, as we do not want to have this thread locked.

Thank you.

Aw come on, don't show interest in the topic. You start to lose your mystique

On topic: US General US may put troops on the ground. If this occurs the troops would be part of an international force rather than just an outright US invasion. However imo, this is a general just talking out of his ass and he doesn't have the authority to decide anything.

  • 04.07.2011 8:40 PM PDT

Copypasta: On Thursday, Abdel Fattah Younes, the defected head of the rebel military, confirmed for the first time that the opposition forces have received foreign weapons: anti-tank guns from Qatar. The tiny but wealthy Gulf country has been at the forefront of support for Libya's anti-Gaddafi movement, offering them official recognition and to be a broker for their oil.

Yea, Iraq was a real Joint invasion, same with Afghanistan. IMO it will be American soldiers with some british troops humping along with them. This, of course, is my opinion.

I agree. I was summarizing what the General said (or what I understood him as saying).

Apparently the rebels are withdrawing back to Benghazi after we accidentally bombed their tanks (al-Jazeera). Really guys?

I wouldn't be surprised to see French troops on the ground but if there's US troops I'd be shocked. Just roll a military that isn't from the late 70s into Libya and I think Gaddafi would be done.

Can you really blame them for supporting the rebels though? For standing up for what they thought was right?

  • 04.07.2011 9:33 PM PDT

i'm just happy they have some more legitimate anti tank weapons, depending on what upgrades the Libyans made to their T-55's

Random thought but after Gaddafi gets kicked out (which he will), I want the statue of Gaddafi crushing a plane to be put in either the NATO or UN headquarters.

Couple interesting points.

It is coming to light that the airstrike that destroyed the Libyan Rebel's tank and killed at least 4 may not have been a NATO aircraft, but rather a light aircraft launched off the road near Brega. NATO is saying that while they received no request to engage, their planes would have attacked any tanks in the area as the rebels had yet to inform NATO of the use of any captured vehicles on that line.

UNICEF has managed to get people into Misurata and is saying that Gaddafi snipers have started to target children in the city.

The Rebels have apparently moved some of their force from Benghazi, AROUND the front line and are attempting to enter Misurata from the East where Gaddafi Forces are holding.

Massive Protests in Syria. On a VERY positive note, they walked right past security forces who used no level of force against them. The only clashes that occurred were some between pro-government protesters that came out to counter protest.

Really? If it's on al-Jazeera then I think they meant Gaddafi forces were entering Misurata from the east, surrounding it I guess.

that one was from Reuters. Regardless, there is heavier fighting in Misurata again.

NATO and the UN have made it clear they are ready to intervene in any country with uprisings just as they are in Libya IF and only IF they get requests from the Arab League or the GCC as they did with Libya. The instant that request comes in they will direct some forces to intervene.
