The government they choose will likely be a corrupt one, which will rig the next elections, massacre any protestors and not give a rats ass about the people they are supposed to be representing.

I personally want to give them something more than this.
The people of Egypt want this bad enough. and I think they are smarter than you give them credit for.

The western world somehow manages to elect non-despotic governments so why can't Egypt.

at least give them the chance.

How would the people know if the system they were voting for is corrupt or not? How many of them will get bullied or bribed into voting for a corrupt system. What are the chances that the election will get rigged?

This isnt the first time the western world has over turned a dictatorship

when the west over turns a dictator they put in a equally corrupt leader that suits their economic wants so the west can exploit that country. That's no better. At least this way the people have the chance to elect as they see fit.

I dont think that would be allowed today. Too much scrutinism and the western world needs to look good.

Thats the thing they got to hope they vote the right person in. If anything the UN will over see the elections to make sure it will be fair.

You can hope the people vote in the right person but how many people will die before they finally do it? Its basically a matter of luck

The west has to hope they are putting the right people in. So you cannot say our elections are any different that theirs, except theirs was more corrupt due to the leaders. Now there is no leader and no corruption ( Hopefully) they should turn out fine.

Every Government has a risk of being rigged so please stop making it seem like its a 100% guarantee that it will be rigged or they will get in another Dictator. The military is on the public's side in case of a -blam!- up.

Have some hope for petes sake.

The military is on the public side? Have you seen whats happening at Egypt atm. Mubarak went and now their are huge protests against the army and the army used live rounds on protesting crowds. [They deny it, but civilians were found with bullet wounds]

Im sorry but ill believe it when i see it

It's also the way that modern democracies were established.

if we want them to have governments like ours, where the people are free, they need to do it without our intervention in politics, just in the protection of civilians

Gaddafi forces say they will not accept a ceasefire agreement that requires:

Gaddafi stepping down
A split Libya(Rebel and Loyalist/East and West)
An agreement where the Rebels are allowed arms.

The Rebels say for them to accept a ceasefire:

Gaddafi MUST step down
There can not be a split Libya
and the Rebels must be allowed to protect themselves.

The "There can not be a split Libya" requirment isnt a good one. Gaddafi support is much greater in the west of libyia, the rebels would have to take control of that area themselves which would be difficult and we could not help them as they are two civilian groups fighting each other

For themselves.
indeed. There's also the part that while both halves can support themselves politically, they are unable to support themselves economically. they need the entire country to support themselves.
