I never really understood why Keyes would keep an empty pistol. Is there even a reason? Was it just so you couldn't shoot him...right away?Or is it more symbolic and story realated?

I honestly don't see any kind of symbolism in "I don't keep it loaded, son. You'll have to find ammo as you go."

Due to some e-mail dumbness, my GT is not the one listed on my profile. My GT is the same as my board name.

I think it probably had more to do with the giant window with vacuum on the other side that he was in close proximity to at the time. I mean, I'm pretty sure the Autumn's bridge window could take a shot from the Pistol, but better safe than sorry.

I tried shooting it. Nothing happened.

maybe he just prefers to hit enemies with his pistol instead of actually shooting with it

So do all who live to see such times, but that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us.

I think he kept it unloaded due to the fear that The Master Chief might actually betray him. Well that didn't stop me from betraying him because when I play Halo CE the third time and I got ammo for the pistol, I came back and shot him for the lols.

Too bad Cortana called security.

Maybe its trying to say that there is bigger and better weapons out there, but you have to start with this.

-blam!- Was that actually blammed out? Or did I just type it? You'll never know.

Keyes really isn't a direct violence person. It isn't even until the attempts of Cole Protocol that he kills someone.

I heard in the beta of Halo that you would find ammo some where else instead of just randomly picking it up in the hallway, but Bungie ran out of time and they just scraped the idea. I think its just a rumor but you never know.

It's a metaphor for the 07s' lack of identity. too old to be newfag, yet too new to be oldfag, we wander b.net in search of a home, forever trying to be something we are not.

Just trying to show you how to find and load bullets early in the game most likely.

"Death by irony is always painful. Amateurs."- Lara Croft, Tomb Raider Legend.

He probably shot himself in the foot and took out the ammo so that wouldn't happen again.

Walk softly, and carry a big midget.

I have no idea why, funny thing is you walk down a corridor towards some Grunts and then you magically get ammo.

To someone of his station it is nothing more than a symbol of rank. It would be really common, and there is precedent, for senior members of the military to not have loaded weapons.

Loaded weapons go off at the darndest times. Usually during christmas parties where the admiral has a few too many eggnogs and irish coffees.

Doc: "i'm a pacifist"
Caboose: "your a thing that babies suck on?"
Tucker: "no dude, that's a pedephile"
Church: "tucker, i think he means a pacifier"

The way I look at it, in traditional military, while soldiers swords were sharpened and used for battle many higher officers swords were worn purely as decoration.

That or he just forgot to pop in a clip.
