...hard to follow? I've only read the first chapter and a half, and it's a little confusing right now. Is it just me, or does anyone else think this?

It is a great book so far, though.

The first er...half is a little odd to grasp since it is about completely new stuff that doesnt really have a relatable context.

As the book goes on they gradually reference connections to stuff int he terminals...the games.. And by the end the book is fully in the fold of the events that shape the halo universe, and a lot of the explained parts are made clear.

Thanks, but even if I haven't read the terminals, is it still pretty easy to understand?

Its not like any o the previous halo novels.

Its purely story and character driven, and the story is 100,000 years removed from the bulk of what we know so far, so it can be quite hard to relate in the beginning.

None of this is a bad thing. Well get GOO 2 soon enough and can crack on with the space marine action stuff then :)

By the power of truth, I, while living, have conquered the universe.

The first thing people should grasp is that Greg Bear has a very different writing style to Nylund, Buckell and Dietz. He has always been a character and story-driven writer, the others generally focus on action with plot and character development as a secondary focus.

So whilst Cryptum is a very different frontier for Halo's novels, it's fantastic once you get to grips with it.

I bought mine in Books-A-Million, I believe it can be purchased from any up-to-date bookstore, though.

Also, I agree. The character development is amazing, it is just just hard for me to follow since most of the character development contradicts what is known (and assumed) about Humans (and Forerunners).

I dunno...as I haven't done that myelf. But I will say that as more and more terminal stuff was referenced, I got more and more giddy so...

There is no contradiction of what is known in canon, only what people have assumed.

We are all going to get banned aren't we?

Absolutly nothing in Cryptum breaks any canon whatsoever and if there is a "break" please state such so i can correct it for you.

It's as pure as canon can get.

I had little problems with Cryptum when i read the first two chapters online. All Halo fans were blown away.

But it was easy to read when i bought the book itself

-blam!- Was that actually blammed out? Or did I just type it? You'll never know.

Eh, there's a lot of new stuff being introduced so that's understandable.

No breaks in canon, as far as I can tell. What I meant by "contradictions" is that Humans are portrayed as several varieties, and a youngster is 200 years old. It is a contradiction to real life (as far as I know).

Yeah the beginning is a little... odd to read. It gets better though with a OH MY GOD AWESOME! ending.

IS it actually worth reading though? People could just download the ebook from WarezBB or somewhere

It is most certinly worth reading, it is the best of the Halo books and you find out so much(and find there is much more yet to be revealed)
