Subject: Something I noticed in Dr. Halsey's Jorunal

One of the pictures in Halsey's journal, a picture of Space taken from a telescope on Mars, is of High Charity.

I went to Halopedian to confirm this, and it's true.

This brings up a few things.

First, this shows the Covenant know the location of the Sol system and Earth before the War started. Why The Covenant wouldn't use this knowledge, I don't know. Perhaps the Prophets wanted to keep more secrets than we originally thought.

Second, the fleet guarding High Charity is not present. I also don't see an explanation for this.

Third, What do you suppose the Covenant's motives for being in the Sol system could be?

And last, this kinda doesn't make sense along the lines of Contact Harvest, as this picture is taken in 2524. At the time, High Charity was in Covenant controlled Space ( Otherwise, I think the Prophets would of noticed the massive amount of lifeforms in the Sol system. ).

Ideas? Discuss-

That is a very interesting point, and I have no idea what High Charity was doing in the Sol system. You should note that this is one year before first contact, and this is before the rise of Truth and Regret to the high council. Maybe the previous regime was less interested in the Humans in Sol, possibly discovering the secret that Truth started a genocide to cover up, and destroying the record instead of starting a war.

As for the fleet guarding High Charity, the ships in the fleet are significantly smaller than the actual station.

Perhaps the previous Council simply didn't have the same goals as their successors. Or the Covenant didn't have the proper sensor equipment at the time.

I know that, I'm just assuming that if the UNSC could tell that its using "Guided movement", they would be able to also pick up movement from Hundreds of Covenant Ships surrounding it.

Don't worry, you're still your mom's favorite Bnet member.

At least now we know how Regret knew were Earth was.

I always figured that Regret knew where the Ark was, but not that Earth was what it was. Remember that Cortana mentions that the Covenant seem surprised that humanity was there, and Regret had brought such a small fleet, not properly fitted for invasion.

Signatures are for squares.

Don't forget that in Stomping on the heels of a fuss, the ONI operative stated ONI has seen brutes on High Charity before.

In all honesty, ONI probably had contact with the Covenant long before the war started, and simply kept it a secret.

Much like what they did with the flood, or with their tests on the flood at Alpha Halo, on the Mona Lisa.

Extremely long time fan of Halo and Bungie. More-so Bungie than Halo, I love where you guys started and I love where you are today. Don't worry, 343i will take good care of Halo. I am also on Rooster Teeth at SuckItBleu77, or you may follow my Twitter by the same name, peace out guys, and remember to respect the Seven7th.

Also from Halsey's journal, in a sketch of Halsey in the cyrofreeze, she is wearing clothes, non-canon. In Fall of Reach, Lieutenant Keyes stated that you were always nude in cyrofreeze

I guess so but I think it's because Bungie is against nudity or something

I just play for fun. MLG can kiss my ass.

High Charity was probably just passing through. They didn't have time to search for us.

Very True, I've considered this greatly as well. Or perhaps the discovered the lost time that was explained in Halo:Cryptum.

Man, Halo has such a huge and beautiful back story.

Earth isn't the Ark. Earth has the portal to the Ark on it.

I wake up to find myself
After all these years
And where all the time has gone
Still seems so unclear

No -blam!-.

Regret knew where the Portal was. Hence, he knew about the Ark. Hence he knew where the Ark was.

Are you on about the picture that has a note saying ' A new threat? ' if so it looks like the ship isn't in the solar system considering it was took by a telescope thats 400 years more advanced than ours so at anyrange futher than the Kuiper belt it would be hard to detect planets unless you were activly searching for them by calculating the gravitational effect of planets on the sun, which would look like a normal star from that distance. So the covenant probably didn't find the earth of if they did then they didn't know it was inhabited.

One topic, I looked at that picture and couldn't see anything; I'll have another look soon.
Anyway, I'm sure that in the future they can see things alot further away than we can now; perhaps they are seeing High Charity far outside the Sol System.

It's a picture of Space, with a circle around High Charity. You'll have to turn the picture onto it's side to see High Charity.

But they would have been interested in humans, since they have technology that represents all humans as Forerunner artifacts. We saw that in Contact Harvest. You'd think that would get a huge reaction from them.

It's a metaphor for the 07s' lack of identity. too old to be newfag, yet too new to be oldfag, we wander b.net in search of a home, forever trying to be something we are not.

ONI secrets will always be a way of adding to the story. Kinda annoying but I'll accept it.

True, but since Humanity's existence as reclaimers disproved the Covenant religion's idea that the Forerunners left everything for them, the High Council wanted to make sure that the rest of the Covenant wouldn't know the truth. Truth started a war, and it is possible that the previous leadership decided it was easier to cover it up.

Also, This is all based off of a distant picture of a space station. We don't know how much excitement went into the eventual decision to cover it up, or as someone already mentioned, if ONI may have had contact with them.

  • 03.19.2011 8:14 AM PDT

It would explain why it took them so long to find Earth, and why they were so surprised to find us when they did.

They've already been here, seen nothing. So they assume (as they do) that there is nothing of interest here. When they do come back, it's a "Oh -blam!-, how did we miss this lot?" moment.
