Which game had better sound?
Which game had better Character Development?

Personally, I give them both to ODST, the music is just stunning.
The Character development was better as well, they actually got into Dare and Buck's relationship, unlike Carter and Kat's past relationship.

What do you guys think?

"Were it so easy..." -Thel Vadame.

Reach I think overall was jut better. I feel like the characters were more diverse and we could connect easier to them since they were Spartans, and we are all so used to fighting as Spartans. II's or III's.

ODST are still bad ass though :P

By the power of truth, I, while living, have conquered the universe.

ODST, hands down.

In terms of characters and the way they responded to one another, one might consider this was made easier by the fact they all knew each other so the acting would have been as natural as their roles in Firefly.

What was great about Buck's squad is that they were human, you could relate to them a lot easier because Spartans are very detached beings. Noble Team were too clunky and spontaneous in dialogue, Buck's squad felt much more natural and fluent.

ODST had a much darker, ominous and lonely tone to it. For this reason, the soundtrack really stuck out from the crowd, especially whilst travelling through New Mombasa at night. Sadie's Story was driven entirely by dialogue, art direction and sound most definately played a massive part in the story.

Overall, I prefer ODST hundred-fold over Reach in terms of campaign.

I agree, ODST had better character development. I think I enjoyed the campaign more overall than Reach's as well.

The music though, its a toss up. They are both in very different styles. ODST's worked for it, and Reach's fit it well. I can't decide.

Sound/Music: Reach.

Character devolpement: ODST.

Lets face it: ODST is the more character driven Halo in the series. Reach is the military chapter and the main trilogy is the space opera part of the series.

As for Reach not having the character development people want it to have:
It plays during a very short time, how much character development would you want to have? Come, be realistic: how much would you expect battle hardenend (probably heavily traumatized from their past) Spartan 3's to change over that time?
They are mostly emotionless killingmachines...sorry but thats how Spartans mostly are. Sure, they have emotions, but they never really showed them during ANY action in any Halo (including the books). Between battles: sure, they contemplate what they do etc, but they are no nonsense and follow their orders. You're gone, you're gone, easy as that.
At most their facial expressions would show emotions, and thats where Reach dropped the ball. Some of the death and emotional scenes should have showed the Spartans faces to at least give an impression of their emotions.

But Spartans going through character changes, and expressing emotions: no way.

Impressive feedback guys, keep it up.

lol Dare and carter.

OT: I think ODST had the best single player campaign when compared to reach. it had my favorite soundtrack and the best cast in my opinion. This baffles me when they took a year to make ODST while they usually spend 3 years on major Halo titles.

ODST hands down for character devolopment. I already explained why in this thread so don't feel like going through it again. Have a read if you want, but warning: its a bit long.

The music....I liked ODST's better simply because it fits my style more, but Reach's was still solid.

Though audio goes to Reach. More real, grittier, just better.

Thanks for pointing that out, now I feel like an idiot...

ODST had a campaign that felt it had a certain sort of love poured into it, in a way reach just sort of didnt.

I agree, it always seemed that Bungie has poured their heart and souls into the campaigns of Halo CE and 2. By Halo 3 they were more focused on the multiplayer aspect, but still put some effort into the story, even if it was a little flat.

For ODST there was no matchmaking, so they put all of the blood, sweat and tears into the story, and it showed. The characters were good (fine, we have to give Joss Whedon some of the credit for that) and it told a compelling story, the story of a small team watching a much bigger city fall.

In Reach they tried to do the same thing, a small team watching a planet fall, but they did it without any real feeling. It seems that they were so focused on the multiplayer that they just had the campaign as a way to show off what they could do in the engine. They were trying to save so much time on the campaign that they just recycled multiplayer maps into the campaign space.

This man, this man right here put it so eloquently that I actually cancelled my own 2000+ word long post.

The person who said participating is important, not winning, obviously never won anything.

ODST takes the prize.

ODST. No real contest in my mind. The music was better IMO and fit the mood a lot more. There was also actual character development ODST unlike Reach. The only character development in Reach was in Jorge's character. Everyone else stayed the same throughout the whole game.

Not to be hard on Reach or anything but I just really dislike the campaign.
