First off, they shut down all original xbox games.
Second, they were dying. Battlefront II, the #2 game, only had under 10 people on at once, while the #10 game, Burnout 3, was completely dead. You would have to wait for matches.
Halo 2 was dying as well, with most of the population consisting of Xbox 360 players trying to play Halo on the cheap (this was when Halo 3 still was expensive before it was a Platinum Hit) and cheapasses who couldn't afford a 360. So they could make service improvements that the Xbox 1 was holding back, they shut it down.
