This has been nagging me for a little while. Why didn't the Supercruiser destroy any of the ODP's?

I mean, it was able to outrange them with a highly accurate weapon. So why weren't the ODP's a priority when they discovered their killing power? It would have reduced the Covenant casualty count exponentially.

I mean, the other Covenant ships wouldn't have to do those suicide microjumps.

Uhm, 'cause the Covenant are retarded?
I mean, they've got 23 kilometer long floating death dealers and they field what, like five of them in the entire war?
What would it take to build one of those, a year? THey've had long enough to build them up.
Also, more supercruisers too. Would've helped a lot.

Well, those Supercarriers contain more matter than Mount Everest. That would be straining even the Covenant's resources.

The length for the Supercarrier is closer to around 27 Km, actually. That is a rough estimation, but it is within the ballpark. pretty much anywhere between 26-29/30 is.

They probably didn't want to risk it. Supercarriers usually carry high-value crew, right?

In memory of those fallen in the defense of Earth and her colonies.

Doesn't seem right to me. UNSC ships were much bigger.

No, it's just the right size.

Most UNSC ships were bigger then their Covenant counterparts, but the Covenant's technology allowed for such massive ships to be built without dealing fatally large ammounts of stress on the hull, thus allowing for more variety in size. When the Covies got big, they really got big.

If you can build bigger ships, you can build bigger/more reactors, and have more space. More reactors=more powerful weaponry, more space=more ground troops and more of that powerful weaponry.

Theoretically, I wouldn't put it past the supercarrier to be fully capable of taking the entire Sol system in conquest. It'd have the troops for it. The only real threat to a SC are the SMACs.

I would have to say that this is true for mostly the UNSC cruisers. There are multiple types of Covie Destroyers, one, in which, has a longer length than the Marathon-Class Cruisers, and about the same mass. Not to mention the Covie Corvettes and Frigates. Some Carriers were indeed smaller than the UNSC's, however.

Anyways, can we please get back on topic?

What brings you to that conclusion?

A SC can carry a few hundred thousand troops max? Even if we were generous and gave it 1 million troops, and assume all of them are versed in the art of war, tactics, strategies and are skilled enough to make our top SF look like amateurs, you'd still need 10 million troops, 10 SCs to take Earth.

If we factor in escorts, logistical support and supply lines, your looking at a 150-200 strong fleet. For one planet.
If your intention is to melt the major population centres such a fleet may be able to take 2 planets, but not much more.

OT: Super-carriers and Super-cruisers are way too valuable to waste. Their current tactics of spamming with cruisers and boarding ships works just fine.
