Subject: The Great Schism Aftermath

Date: 2559

"The Great Schism rages on. While the Jiralhanae wage their own internecine wars, the Sangheili themselves are gradually losing their fleets in a war of attrition, having lost the technical expertise kept exclusively by the Prophets."

Opinion: This can mean anything. It could be in favor of the Brutes or the Elites, but what do you guys think? Elites can't keep their Fleet intact while the Brutes suffer constant Civil War, what could the outcome be? Stalemate?

This story really helps.

I believe the Sangheili - after allying with the UNSC - re-found their racial identity in fighting the Brutes that remained after the fall of the Covenant, and rose above the Brute clans that were too busy in-fighting.

I'd say in the end the Sangheili won.

It's still technically on-going. The Elites eventually wouldn't have ships to use, and the Brutes well are basically just killing themselves until the last clan remains, how would the Elites have been able to make it to Doisac with no ships?

Well, if they're both on the down-turn, then that puts the UNSC as the galactic power.
I guess the victor is the one who the UNSC sides with.

The UNSC pretty much doesn't have a fleet anymore. Add to the fact that it's population is down to 300 million, barely the size of the United States population today.

By the power of truth, I, while living, have conquered the universe.

Neither side seems to be actually winning. The Sangheili fight without a purpose, they have no reason to fight because the religion that guided them for thousands of years means nothing anymore. Also, they are only warriors, they have no way of repairing damaged ships because they relied on the San 'Shyuum to supply them the means to repair (and Huragok).

The Bestiarum notes that the Jiralhanae once were capable of achieving space travel, however a civil war quickly made them fall back a tier and they reverted to their primitive tribal nature. It seems that this may well happen again so the Sangheili have a chance of winning if this happens, however one might argue this by saying that the Jiralhanae are much more capable this time because they've got Forerunner/Covenant technology to support their efforts.

There is more than 300 million Humans left in existence.

The colony world of Forseti has a population of 500 million alone. Then there is Earth, with a population of 200 million, and 4 other named colonies that survived or were never found by the Covenant: Minister, Tribute, Cygnus and Lenapi. I am getting this from 2 of the Adjuncts in the First Strike re-release by the way. It is most likely safe to say that Human numbers are well over 1 billion now.

Think of it as life in Europe after The Great Plague or After the Epidemic after WWI, Over a third of life in that continent was gone, so much left after the war's destruct. The other five colonies were infact safe, your right, but hell the civilians still are probably filled with propaganda that they never reached Earth and that they are stilling winning in the outer rim.

Although Earth, it's partially glassed along with Australia being whipped clean off the planet with destruction and fires all around the planet. It would take a long time to recover, on Earth, before the invasion, what was the rough estimate of the population? Now it's down to 200 million.

The other five colonies can live on, but what of Earth? You can't expect to have 200 million people to live off on a planet made for multi-billions with damage all around.

This man, this man right here put it so eloquently that I actually cancelled my own 2000+ word long post.
/slow clap for respect

:)
The person who said participating is important, not winning, obviously never won anything.

The UNSC, and thus humans, will most likely play the role the Prophets held, and even doing it better.

The Brutes will end up being massacred by the combined forces of the UNSC and Elite Empire.

Well, yeah. Earth is as good as glassed I would think. It was populated by "billions", although the Encyclopaedia is not specific about how many billions. Then it was cut in half in a matter of hours when the Prophet of Regret showed up. Now it is only 200 million. There is likely little to no infrastructure left.

The point I was making though is that with many of these colonies still intact, the UNSC will still have many resources at its disposal. It will not take them that long to get back on their feet. They are already terraforming entire planets in as little as 30 years after the war. It was estimated by the AI committee that, for a 2525 strength UNSC, such actions would take 300 years. The damage done to Earth was not as extensive as that which was done to Reach, and Reach looks habitable again in under 30 years. Earth will not take that long to sort.

I am really confused as to where people are getting this from. I assume it is in The Return. What page is this mentioned?

I think the ultimate losers were the brutes and prophets. The Prophets apparently were too busy leading the galaxy to destruction to reproduce and their population was in the thousands after the war which means they probably went extinct. The Brutes warred themselves almost to extinction. According to what i saw on some wiki. The gravemind was destroyed which means the flood is done.

Humans made it out alive, with a lot less colonies

Elites left for their own homeworld, hopefully they made it out alive cause they were pretty damn cool.

I imagine grunts did just fine, they probably just went back to their normal lives. And

Jackals, from what I've heard, were pretty much just mercenaries, not ACTUALLY believing in the covenant but working with them anyways. They probably did just fine too.

I guess so. There was never many of them anyway. The insurrectionists are still very much a part of "Humanity", they just simply want it ruled differently.

Elites will have to rediscover their past skills in engineering and technology. They built their pre-covenant empire on inferring what Forerunner tech did, without directly tampering and disturbing "relics".

They where pigeon-holed by the prophets into being a warrior society, but they had to have been more. They'd have never made ships and been such a force that the prophets had to use the dreadnought in their war against them unless they had great scientists in the past.

It might be that the best weaponmasters left become a new clan or whatever an elite equivalent of a scholarly body would be. They would do well to pull in the best of the hunters, and the engineers they have left. If they reach out to humanity, it could expedite the process. Humans have their own doctors, engineers, and physicists who could instruct the elites.

As far as I know I don't think it's actually stated in Evolutions, I think people are just inferring from what we know of Brute nature and society. They probably will drive themselves to almost extinction, and of course the matter will be compounded by the Elites carrying on their war against the Brutes.

"Like water I ebb and flow. Defeat s simply an addition of time, a sentence to a fate I never deserved, but you imposed."

The Flood isn't done; far from it. Its just been slowed. You can't really kill the Gravemind it seems, just slow him.

In a time long past, the armies of the dark came again to the lands of men. Their leaders became known as the fallen lords, and their terrible sorcery was without equal in the west.
In 30 years they reduced the civilized nations into carrion and ash. Until the free city of Madrigal alone defined them. An army gathered there, and a desperate battle was joined against the fallen
Heros were born in the fire and bloodshed of the wars which followed and their names and deeds will never be forgotten

I have to agree with that, the forerunners spent over 300 years trying to kill the flood only to lose, and they had tech that far surpassed the UNSC's and the Covenants tech.

But, at least High Charity crashed into the Ark and not Earth :D

  • 03.20.2011 6:28 PM PDT

It was war. Everyone lost.

The elites did not give up their religious beliefs, they only conceded that the prophets were false all along and led them astray from their gods.

As a race they undertake a spiritual journey to try and find the voice of their gods for themselvs. It is hinted that the elite-human alliance wont last forever.........

If you read up ont he history of the brutes in the beastarium, you can guess what they do next. They just fall in on themselvs in the power vacuum.

Basically: Brutes Gonna Brute.

  • 03.20.2011 7:26 PM PDT

They went Halo 2 berserk...on THEMSELVES

  • 03.21.2011 12:46 AM PDT

The few remaining prophets went into hiding, the Jiralhanae began to fight amongst themselves, Unggoy served however was in power,Kig-Yar served whoever payed the most, Lekgolo returned to Te, probably able to survive the Flood, Yanme'e returned to their homeworld, Elites went back to Sanghelios to fortify it in case the Jiralhanae attacked, and went to look for Forerunner relics.

  • 03.21.2011 7:22 AM PDT

Don't worry, you're still your mom's favorite Bnet member.

The Brutes are still trying to protect the extinct (near extinct?) Prophets. However their is no orderly leadership or succession among them so the Brutes are engaged in constant Civil War, they broken and weak.

The Grunts are mostly scattered. They are no longer slaves, but some remain with the Brutes and others with the Elites.

The Hunters return to their home world, Te.

The Drones went back to their home world, but are mostly wiped out.

The Jackals are scattered, their loyalties only lie with who pays the most.

The Elites are still wandering the galaxy. Without their faith, they have nothing else to turn to. They drift looking for guidance and purpose. Without the help of the Prophets' knowledge of Forerunner tech they are weak.
