Subject: What do you think the Prisoner said to the ancient humans?(spoilers)

I've read cryptum, and know that when ancient humanity first discovered what the Flood really was, they asked the Prisoner about what it was and where it came from. The Prisoner's answer was so ghastly and horrifying that the humans present at the questioning to commit suicide, and so nobody knows what he said

So my question is, what do YOU guys think the Prisoner said? Perhaps we'll find out in the sequel...

Do you know what kind of hat I'm wearing?

A party hat; you don't get one. An honor will this party be, a party in your honor, for your honor. Some of Tfear's personal guards are going to be there. You'll be introduced shortly.

Prepare to die.

You are, all of you, vermin. Cowering in the dirt, thinking... what? That you might escape the coming fire? Your world will burn until its surface is but glass!

  • 03.20.2011 3:04 PM PDT

That would actually fit lol. but to cause a mass suicide? nah.

How about this one:

Arrogant creatures! Your deaths will be instantaneous, while we shall suffer the progress of infinitude!
Resignation is my virtue; like water I ebb, and flow. Defeat is simply the addition of time to a sentence I never deserved... but you imposed.

Aren't there theories of the Prisoner and the Gravemind being the same entity? then that would make sense right? ;)

Yeah, almost anyone who has read Cryptum thinks that the Prisoner and the Gravemind are one and the same.

  • 03.20.2011 3:39 PM PDT

I thought they committed suicide when the Prisoner told them how to handle the flood, which was to sacrifice 1/3 of the population to the flood with the anti-flood serum.

I certainly don't.

Since when does the Gravemind have 4 arms, 2 legs, a tail, and a head with beady glowing eyes?

Then maybe the Gravemind is a flood infected version of the prisoner. There is something it said in Halo 3 that makes the relationship seem more likely.

Resignation is my virtue; like water I ebb, and flow. Defeat is simply the addition of time to a sentence I never deserved... but you imposed.
When Gravemind said this to Master Chief it implies that humanity had cost him a great deal of time. Obviously this wasn't modern humanity, since as far as human history goes we have only known the Gravemind for a couple months. This quote would make more sense if it had been held for thousands of years by an ancient version of humanity that has since been forgotten.

Gravemind appears different from the prisoner described in Cryptum because it, like everything else infected by the flood, has been mutated.

Well not I said almost everyone, I didn't say that everyone would be believe, I was merely trying to say it's the general consensus that the two are the same.

Things don't have to look the same to be the same entity, and besides, whatever life-form initially starts a Flood Form, you can bet that after several thousand centuries it will no longer look the same. And think about it, if the Gravemind was originally a Precursor, like say the Prisoner who is the last one, a lot of the Gravemind's lines make oh so much more sense, like for instance "Child of my enemies why have you come? I offer no forgiveness, the sins of the father pass to his son." or "I am a monument to all your sins."

But eh, oh well, I think it's fairly obvious that the Prisoner is meant to be the Gravemind, and though I think what little evidence there is supports my claim, not everyone will agree. So we shall just and see who has the last laugh :P

I absolutely do not think the Prisoner is the Gravemind.

  • 03.20.2011 6:15 PM PDT

I believe the precursor and the gravemind are two seperate entities, though they do have a connection.

Halo 3 tells us that MB spends 43(right?) years on a Halo ring with the gravemind. Cryptum tells us that the Precursor spent 43 years on Halo with MB.

I believe it's possible that all three of them conspired together. We'll find out in the next novel, but either way I absolutely don't believe that the Gravemind and the prisoner are the same entity.

-blam!- Was that actually blammed out? Or did I just type it? You'll never know.

He said, "I can't think of anything deep, meaningful or creative to say so instead as a cop out can you all just kill yourselves so people will think I said something horrifying?"

Why do you think that? Yes, we can agree there is a distinct connection, though we disagree on what that connection is.

I think that's the amount of time it was, I never really looked at the Terminals, so I don't really know.

Well, to each his own theories, we'll see who is right in the end.

RED BRICK STUDIOS!

I'd say they are the same for one reason.
It seems like all the novels and games have at least one character who was present in previous material.
Reach had Keyes and Halsey.
ODST had Johnson.
Contact Harvest had Johnson.
Cole Protocol had Keyes and Thel.
Onyx had Chief briefly I think, or I guess Halsey and the rest of the Spartans count.
FoR and FS had Chief.
Cryptum has Gravemind.

I can't possibly imagine what could be said to make them kill themselves. Can't wait to find out, writer is going to have to put a lot of thought into that one!

I don't, doesn't make sense by a long shot in my ind that the are the same...He'd have mentioned something of the war and also he'd have probably told Regret while consuming him that his people once had made a treaty with the Forerunners if he were truly one and the same. That and why would he help early humans defeat the flood? Because they learned how to beat them by talking to the Prisoner...
