And yes, I failed at linking. Silly me. My linked alt account is called Ultrademon 38.

Well I'd love to see what happened in New Orleans.

I would take a page from Left 4 Dead 2 and holdout in a safehouse in the French Quarter.

OP, watch every disaster movie ever made, and refference that to Halo for your answer.

Granted, I am not sure how only 15 vessels, most of which were probably smashed by the defence grid, were able to deal that much damage in such a small time frame given the retcon to the Covenants glassing ability. Vessels must have been slipping in under the SMACs immediately after Regret showed up, like before ODST even finishes.
That is the exact basis for my short story, The Battle of New York. After Regret flees, other ships immediately begin arriving and taking over Earth's major cities.

Never say you're bored. Never say you're satisfied with the world. Never stop doubting or questioning things. Always wonder. Always think. But always take time to drop your guard, you don't have to be smart all the time.

What happened to every other planet?

If it means anything, I'm writing a short story about ODSTs who are dropped in New York.
Interesting. I'm writing a short story about a civilian evacuation during the Battle of New York.

We should collaborate :D

You could have 2 main characters ODST/civilian that meet up in the evac.

That would actually be an awesome idea. Maybe they have a similar destination. Or the civilian is in need an the ODST is willing to go AWOL to help him/her out. Or something completely different. Just an idea.

I think you should go for the idea of an important civilian needing to get out the city and this ODST being assigned to protect them, creating a strong friendship throughout the story. Ending in the death of the ODST in an awesome way.

The UNSC capitol is not in New York, it is Australia (sorry for spelling errors).

That seems like a great idea. Maybe the ODST dies in the end to save the civilian. But, then again, that might be too predictable? Maybe not. Or the ODST sacrafices himself to complete whatever it is the civilian needs done.

Do not waste your tears, I was not born to watch the world grow dim. Life is not measured in years, but by the deeds of men.

We should know better, because we are better.

In a nice departure from sci-fi cliches, New York is not mentioned at all and might have been totally ignored.

Maybe you could place a twist where the civilian dies to save the ODST due to there close friendship.

Yeah. I was thinking along the lines of something like, "We need every last soldier in the fight. I'll take care of this." (Civilian to ODST) Sort of like what Sgt. Forge said to the one Spartan in HW.

I wonder what happened to good ol' Cumbria when the Covenant attacked Earth.

  • 03.24.2011 5:07 PM PDT

There once was an ugly barnacle. He was so ugly that everyone died.

The end.

SCFH

Some areas of Earth were left untouched, the majority of the fighting happened in Kenya around Mombasa and the ark.

As far as i know there were no significant UNSC or ONI headquarters there, so it probably wasn't of any concern to the Covenant.

Pretty sure the Covenant partially glassed NYC, along with the rest of the world. Remember that there were only 200 million humans left on Earth by the time the war ended.

  • 03.25.2011 4:03 AM PDT

OMG a Pwny!

I imagine New York fell long ago. It's not a feasible city in that timeline. Even if it was there, it would be wildly different from any New York you may think you know.

Nothing, the Covenant only landed/invaded in New Mombasa Africa and a orbital elevator tower near South America I believe.

False, Cleveland was attacked, along with Australia being whipped clean off the face of the Earth.
Well, that sucks.

There were no Spartans on Earth other than the Chief, the IIIs were whiped out on Reach and Onyx, while Chief was the only active SPARTAN II left.

The others were stuck in the shield world, on the Pillar of Fire, and in unknown space (Grey team).

  • 03.25.2011 10:25 PM PDT

I started up the heated debate on whether the SPARTAN-II in the cryo tube near the end of Reach is really Linda.
I created the Moa XING avatar pic.
Also I earned the All Star nameplate with this submission to Week 14 All Stars http://www.bungie.net/images/News/Inline11/bwu_0415/art/likea boss.jpg

Covies probably went Independence Day on all major cities
