I personally think the first of the Halo series has the best campaign experience. But that is just my opinion. What do you guys think?

"So what, so I'm crazy."

CE was beast, but the flood were pretty lame enemies.

2 was fun, ending sucked though.

3 was fun,

ODST WAS THE BEST

Reach is up there though

In order of my favorites

ODST
CE
reach
3
2

Mourne not your comrades who must dwell / too strong to strive -
Within each steel-bound coffin of a cell, / Buried alive;
But rather mourne the apathetic throng / The cowed, and the meek -
Who see the world’s great anguish and its wrong / And dare not speak.

I couldn't get into ODST. I'd have to give story hands down to CE. None of the later games quite stacked up when it came to making me care about what happened to the characters.

Mission-design wise, I actually have some trouble deciding. Halo 3 is marred by the Cortana mission, which I outright hated. I wasn't a fan of the Library at first, but it grew on me after a couple play-throughs and actually became one of my favorite missions in the trilogy. Cortana, well, it never got any less frustrating to me. AOTCR is also classic. (Edit: Also, the jackal snipers in Halo 2 on legendary never got fun for me... they were always a chore I had to work through.)

Yeah... it might be party due to nostalgia, but I have to give the edge to the first game. There's also the fact that it told a complete story, which is always a bonus.

I think so as well. It seriously just seems like most of the halos after CE was just based on their multiplayer and not the campaign. It seemed like there was no story just a mess of events. I am not going to diss on the other Halo's but that is just what I think. I love all of the games but it just lacks the story.

If you can read this, that means I'm not a Shaolin monk...

yet.

ODST and Wars.

I personally think that Halo 2 had the best story. But it is possible that my choice could be influenced by the fact that Halo 2 was the first Halo that I played, and I played it for years before I got Halo CE, Halo 3 or Live (for that reason maps like Coagulation, and Ascension have very special value to me, and I wish they would bring them back).

I also like Reach's story quite a lot, and I'm not really sure whether I like Halo 3's, or Halo CE's story more.

ODST I just couldn't really get into, it was interesting, and I liked it, but I didn't enjoy it nearly as much as the others.

And although it doesn't really apply, as it's an RTS, I think the Halo Wars story wasn't too bad, interesting if nothing else.

2 had the best story and the most effective ending of all time. That ending, while at first it sucked, really set up the hype for Halo 3, and made finally playing it after a grueling year even more special.

ODST

wow thats a hard one but i would have to rank them- ODST, 3, Reach, 2, 1.

Halo 2 for me.
Most epic, most intruiging, the Halo that fleshed out the universe, set up for an amazing trilogy closing (which turned out to be very lackluster), best cast of characters (Gravemind, Truth, Arbiter = epicness).

Only gripe: level design wasn't as it should have been.

My list:
Halo 2
Halo CE
Halo Reach
Halo ODST
Halo 3

I left Wars out, but that one had a pretty cool campaign too. Very similar in style to the books. If it had to be put in somewhere, it would be between Reach and ODST for me.

You're asking about two completely different things. Just because campaign gameplay has a story attached doesn't mean they are the same thing. Campaign gameplay is most comparable to multiplayer gameplay, while story is closer to graphics and music.

Best story? Halo 2.

Best campaign gameplay? IDK... I've been really unsure about this since Reach released. I'll need to replay 2 and 3 to decide. But it certainly isn't 1 or ODST.

Scandinavian Master Race!

I think that Halo 2 had the best story but the campaign of Halo CE takes the crown.

Halo CE, Reach then Wars. 2, 3, ODST are criminally bad. 2 being the biggest affront. MP was revolutionary at the time though. And I agree that Wars has a very cerebral, yet beautiful storyline. Maybe cuz it wasnt penned by Bungie, though i WONT DISCREDIT THEM COMPLETELY because CE was a masterpiece. All after (except Reach) seemed rushed and incomplete.

Nothing will ever beat the first time you play through Halo: CE. Something you will always remember.

Don't worry, you're still your mom's favorite Bnet member.

In order from my favorite to least (This is relative, I love them all immensely)
Halo Combat Evolved
Halo ODST
Halo 2
Halo Reach
Halo 3

By the power of truth, I, while living, have conquered the universe.

In my personal opinion, in terms of storyline it goes:

Halo 2 > Wars > ODST > Halo CE > Halo 3 > Reach
