Racism isn't wrong if it's funny.

Hey peeps,

I was just wondering if it is possible run bootcamp on my MacBook and run Halo 2 Vista, and if so, how well does multiplayer translate? I guess I should first ask if Halo 2 multiplayer is still up and running for PC or if it got shut down along with the original XBOX Live.
Thanks for your help, if you have an example or any other information feel free to PM me.

UPDATE: Just got Halo for Mac. It's bad ass. Can't wait to get the Custom Edition.

50 in H2/H3? Great, but you still fail at this.

It is still up, and it will run it. But macs are crap.

It's h2v, so I can't say for sure.

Yeah. That's right. I don't have a 50 in H3. I never got Onyx in Reach. If a game sucks too much, I won't even bother trying for such trivial "accolades". Besides, I've done way more things that take far more skill and talent than anything that can be done in a video game.

Remember, when you buy a Mac, you're paying for quality. You get parts that perform, feel, and hold up just as well as their PC counterparts. So you get what you pay for when you pay more to get the same as what PC users are getting just so it'll fit in your Mac. It makes sense if you don't think about it. Go Mac!

As for your original question, it's 50/50 running such a buggy game like H2V in an environment like that. Might work like a charm, might never boot and you'll never know why. But hey, if you have such low standards for your hardware, I guess you would hold your software in that same regard.

I've had much experience with Macs and PCs. You can't even compare them, not to say one is better than the other. Don't knock what you don't know about.

ROFL

I can get a PC that would SMOKE that Mac Pro for less than half that price. Dear God, you'd have to be a complete idiot to shell out $2,500 for that thing.

Something smells fishy...

Buying a mac is similar to paying a ridiculously high price to have sex with the hottest girl in school.

Lots of people say stuff about iBUYPOWER, but horror stories happen with all brands. Statistically speaking, Mac's doing worse in that regard. So let's compare this little itsy bitsy PC to that oh-so-fantastic Mac Pro on its stock hardware.

PRICE TAG:
Mac Pro's $2500, the PC is $900. Less than half the price, so that Mac Pro's gotta have some serious firepower compared to the PC, right? Right?

PROCESSOR:
Mac Pro's processor is a 2.8GHz quad-core processor. The iBUYPOWER has a 3.4GHz quad-core processor. That's an intense performance boost all around the board compared to the Mac, from gaming to productivity programs like video and sound editing. To upgrade to a processor that performs just as well as the one in the PC, you'd have to add another $400 to the Mac Pro, bringing the total price tag to $2900.

RAM:
The Mac Pro has 3GB of DDR3 RAM. The iBUYPOWER has 4GB of DDR3 RAM. Sure, the Mac Pro can go up to 32GB, but who would need more than 8GB, let alone the 16GB that the iBUYPOWER can be upgraded to?

HARD DRIVE:
Both of them are 1TB SATA 3's at 7200 RPM. An additional one, on a Mac, would cost nearly twice as much as a top-tier 1TB SATA-2 HDD from WD.

GRAPHICS:
The Mac Pro comes with an ATI Radeon HD 5770. The PC is sporting better card, the Radeon HD 6850. A Mac's Radeon 5770 costs $250. These same video cards can be bought for the PC for $130. Why would anyone want to pay over $100 more for the same hardware?

OPTICAL DRIVE:
The Mac has an 18x "Super Drive", which is Mac Speak for DVD burner. The PC has a 24x DVD burner.

So, where's your justification for the price tag? Are you one of those idiots who thinks that they should pay over double what BETTER hardware on a PC would cost just because the plastic feels better in your hands or some stupid crap like that?

You guys! I don't give a flying -blam!- about your opinions of weather Mac or PC is better. I would just like to know, from someone who actually knows, whether or not it will work. As for the multiplayer, I just don't want to put money into something that is going to crash the living -blam!- out of my Mac.

Please, no more arguments. Stick to the questions if you have the answers, if not, I don't need to hear from you and I definitely don't need to see you guys fight over which platform is better 'cause guess what I HAVE A MAC, DEAL WITH IT!

So please, if you have answers, I would love your help.

Like I said, 50/50. H2V is crappy software. It might work, it might not, it's pretty much up to chance. Garbageware is like that.

It's running, but you'll never see more than 70 people on at any given time. So it's pretty much dead.

The bungie.net community is the halo PC community that is renowned for being unbelieveably sucky.

With Macs you are paying 2x for the same hardware. So basically you are paying for the operating system. Besides, you can't even configure a Mac Pro with the top of the line stuff, nor can you overclock or manage your own motherboard BIOS. Macs are for casual buyers with more money than sense, sort of like H2v.

Not helpful. You just keep telling me that Halo 2 Vista is crap. If I thought that then I wouldn't be buying it. You're being just like the people who say Halo: Reach is crap. I don't care about your opinion.

You also have not told me if you have a Mac that is running bootcamp on which you have played Halo 2 Vista. That's who I really want to hear from. I would like to know how it works or if it even works at all.

I hope I don't sound like an ass. I just get upset when people derail my thread with the classic Mac vs. PC thread.

I'm not being opinionated here. The software just runs terribly. The graphics are extremely unoptimized and perform worse than comparable games, you have to leave the game running for about 10 minutes before the server browser shows games, the in-game updater doesn't work, it has next to no support for newer video cards, running the game higher than 30FPS locked creates mouse movement problems, and it has compatibility problems with any OS other than Windows Vista. It's a buggy mess. That's not opinion; It's FACT.

And it's because of this FACT that it's a tossup of whether or not it will work for you. For a massive chunk of people, who have everything that they would conceivably require to run the game, it won't work. It'll have a solid blue screen instead of an install screen, it'll hitch or crash when installing the game, it'll crash on startup, the list goes on.

I know it's not what you want to hear, but I'm saying it. This port is garbageware programmed by a bunch of college dropouts and left for dead. You can go on thinking that H2V is some sort of AAA PC release with no technical problems whatsoever, but at that point, you'd just be delusional.

BUNGIE AND MICROSOFT FAILS HALO 2 VISTA.

Halo 2 Vista sucks and is not a AAA title.

It used to have an nvidia 9800GT, it had issues with the mouse when I was running the 9800GT.

Yes you can, I dual booted my iMac 2007 model.
The game runs at a stable 50 frames a second at 720p with medium texture quality, and absolute lowest at 35 frames a second, when stressed with water particles and smoke.

Well, I've had no problems since I replaced the 9800GT with the 4670.

HACK THE PLANET!

I have a 15in. MacBook Pro. Last gen model (pre-thunderbolt).

I used boot camp for Windows 7. I was able to install Halo PC and Halo 2 Vista with ease. I have not played any Halo 2 Vista online yet but the menus loaded quickly so I assume it will run.

I like it how people who play Reach do something like go to sleep and people think therefore Reach is losing players.

Well, it seems like it at the time. Then you find out it actually sucks at what it's supposed to do when you take it out of the cover. And then your doctor tells you that you have the clap.
