Macs are good for this. And that's it.

Oh, I'm sorry. I forgot which computers were still able to run at full capacity even after applying 5 subsequent OS updates. I also forgot which of the two companies sucks so much ass that it can't even make an operating system that functions, and when they do, it's still a piece of garbage that no one is interested in. I also forgot which company is slowly taking up more and more market share because they make amazing products.

I remember one thing though, the name of the company wasn't Microsoft.

Yeah. That's right. I don't have a 50 in H3. I never got Onyx in Reach. If a game sucks too much, I won't even bother trying for such trivial "accolades". Besides, I've done way more things that take far more skill and talent than anything that can be done in a video game.

My computer still functions at full capacity after installing countless updates to Win7 x64, just as smoothly as it did when I bought it.

My operating system has better software compatibility than yours, so apparently developers are more interested in it.

My operating system saw a higher boost in market share compared to every Mac OS combined among gamers.

Your ignorance amuses me. Keep going. It's funny.

Which one of us is bashing a machine that he doesn't even use? I own a PC and a Mac and you've only updated from Vista to Windows 7. I've been updating my Mac since OS 10.0. It's funny how you act so high and mighty when you lack both experience and knowledge. I love both of my computers. Honestly I like my Mac for it's functionality and usability and my PC for the vast amount of options.

So don't tell me I'm ignorant when you are not in full possession of the facts. It's not that one is better than the other, they're different.

Oh looky, he's assuming I've never used a Mac.

No, if I never used a Mac, I'd be in doubt. But I have, and that's why I say what I say.

Okay, educate me. Why would I want to spend twice as much for hardware that's completely proprietary and non-upgradable, and an OS that's incompatible with most of the applications that I use?

Hey peeps,

I was just wondering if it is possible run bootcamp on my MacBook and run Halo 2 Vista, and if so, how well does multiplayer translate? I guess I should first ask if Halo 2 multiplayer is still up and running for PC or if it got shut down along with the original XBOX Live.
Thanks for your help, if you have an example or any other information feel free to PM me.

Yeah im running bootcamp32 bit win7. Runs god damn fine for me. Can even use fraps. Im using a late 2010 macbook pro 13''. Things are pretty damn good. No gaming beast but they run.
H2 vista still sucks though.

I'm not being opinionated here. The software just runs terribly. The graphics are extremely unoptimized and perform worse than comparable games, you have to leave the game running for about 10 minutes before the server browser shows games, the in-game updater doesn't work, it has next to no support for newer video cards, running the game higher than 30FPS locked creates mouse movement problems, and it has compatibility problems with any OS other than Windows Vista. It's a buggy mess. That's not opinion; It's FACT.
I really must be the only one that doesn't experience any of these issues.

You're not alone.

I didn't buy my Mac for gaming, believe it or not I actually have a life and attend a school for media, a school in which a PC would not stand a chance. I wanted to get Halo 2 because it is still has online multiplayer. Getting Halo for my Mac was a secondary thought and it's the only game I'll be putting on my Mac.

How do you mean? Video or Music? either way they are STILL cheaper alternatives to the expensive hyper-proprietary software that Apple offers. But lectures aside, H2V has a population of 70 to 80 players at any given time, so unless you like circle jerk gaming... Oh and Halo Mac costs about $100 It would be smarter to get Crossover for this, but once you put crossover in the picture, you have something of a spectrum of games you can play, But that would ruin the point of putting windows on your computer, now wouldn't it?

I don't have to buy Halo for the Mac, I can just Bootcamp my Mac and play the PC version.
As for you idea of Music and Video, those are both very expensive pieces of software that you have to buy separately for your PC. My Mac has better Audio/Video software that comes built right in to OSX. You end up paying a little bit more for a Mac but in the end you save because you can just buy the baseline Mac and it will have all of that amazing software built in. On a PC if you want exceptional audio/video software, you have to buy them separately. In the end, an ideal PC would end up costing more because of all of the upgrades that would need to be purchased in addition. Besides, my PC's built in media center is good enough for me. I have my Mac for when I need it, and my PC for when I need it. Ultimately I win either by having the best of both worlds.

Now, no more posting about Mac vs. PC unless you want to be reported. I want details regarding the original topic, not opinions. So if anyone has Bootcamped their mac and run Halo on the PC component I would love some details from you.

I'm sure several people have successfully bootcamp'd their computers to run Halo 2 Vista.

I think a B.net moderator did also.

1. You don't need boot camp, you can just delete OS X and use EFI to boot Vista/7.

2. I could say the same about my PC having built in software.

"d00d my PC haz wmm lulz"

3. There are also cut down versions of those programs conker listed for far less.

Just throwing it out there that Garageband pales in comparison to any commercial DAW on the market, and VSTs have a mess of problems running Macs. Most VSTs are Win only, and if you happen to get one running on universal binary, they run slower on Mac OSX than any Windows OS.

TL;DR: My Windows PC does music production better than a Mac.

This post I don't even understand. If you want audio software you want Pro Tools. You want video software you use Final Cut.

You know what a universal binary is? Means it supports both OSX intel and ppc architecture. This are for running apps natively regardless of what hardware they are on. If you are talking about something like WINE then hells yes it runs slower and buggier because you are running basically emulation/translation software which is not going to run as fast and might not fully support the app.

Arguing over an OS is pointless, you use whatever you want to use, that does not change the quality of person you are.

Pro tools has a Windows version as well.

I have, but that's not the point. Logic Studio is still commercial software, and doesn't come with OSX. Neither does Final Cut. Both of which are almost as grossly overpriced as the Macs they come on. Who in their right mind would pay $500 for a DAW as featureless as Logic Studio? You can get more out of FL Studio's Signature Bundle for $200 less than that.

Nope, with your shiny $2,500 Mac that's on par with the typical $900 PC, you just got iPhoto, iMovie, and Garageband, all sub-par compared to commercial software. That hardly justifies an additional $1,600 on the price tag.

  • 03.28.2011 2:48 PM PDT

Amen.

You can buy a desktop or laptop PC for a significantly lower price than a desktop or laptop Mac.

Now don't get me wrong people I like Macs but they are grossly overpriced.

If Macs were significantly cheaper than they currently are and supported all computer games then I'd probably own a Mac.
