Wow, I really want to ban everyone for going so off-topic in here. He has asked a simple question and you all can't even answer him with a reasonable response without throwing in your opinion. You are being jerks.

Any points past me that aren't on-topic will be met with a ban. Clear?

ON-TOPIC: OP, it is possible to run bootcamp on your Macbook, but be prepared it may be a little slow setting up.

Once you set it up, it will ask almost exactly as a Windows machine. You will be able to download any game or program you want, and you should be able to play Halo 2 Vista just fine.

Halo 2 Vista runs on computer servers, not on the original Xbox servers, so H2V's online compatibilities are not affected.

Yeah you're right, it did get off topic pretty fast. To be fair, his question was answered fairly quickly in this thread, and has come up many times before in other threads.

I don't think it is unreasonable for PC users that post here regularly to state their opinions regarding H2v though. It's a pretty lackluster port job and has many compatibility problems. I bought it a few months after release and paid full price for it and can personally attest to the issues that some have raised here. We try to warn others to avoid this game because we have first hand experience of how bad it is. Xbox version is much better (I own that too). And if you are buying this game just for the online play, you will be disappointed as very few people play it, there is cheating, and it goes offline quite a bit. Most of us, including me, tell people to buy Halo PC instead.

I think Halo 2 Pc is beast, so I want more players on. I don't have a mac and this is the first time i've heard of "bootcamp", so just borrow the game from someone and test it out, problem solved.

Well, I can't even take what you think seriously when you use words like "beast".

50 in H2/H3? Great, but you still fail at this.

Halo 2 PC is a bad game anyway.

As for macs, you don't need boot camp if you have a x64 copy of Windows, as those have built in EFI boot support for macs and newer PCs.

Can anyone tell me (or better yet, give me a video example of) how the frame rate is?

I seem to remember that in Halo 2 the cinematics would load as if the modle was being rendered, meaning all of the details would come in a split second after the cinematic appeared. Does this hold true fro Halo 2 or did they fix it?

Halo 3

I actually think it still happens in some parts

  • 04.04.2011 8:37 PM PDT

My friend has a mac and plays halo 2 vista on his mac. boot camp stuff etc. It works fine. Video lag, i am not sure if there is much or any at all. since i have upgraded my pc's guts, there seems to be lag from when people join in and at times when there is a bunch of things exploding in one general area and you are look at it. but i have yet to experience poor frame rate.

nvidia 7950gt 30-50+/-
Gts 450 90-160+/- it also depends on the map.
coag- 80-100+/-
then district 50-90+/-

Okay cool. I think my Mac has higher end components than all of those things that you mentioned, not to be snooty, I'm just saying.

So I know that there are not a lot of players on Halo 2 PC, but for the ones that are, what is the best day and time of the week to catch people playing online?

Halo 2. It fails running on a GTX 460, yet looks like UT2003.

It's h2v, so I can't say for sure.

Also, see this.

I've had much experience with Macs and PCs. Don't knock what you don't know about.

ROFL

I can get a PC that would SMOKE that Mac Pro for less than half that price. Dear God, you'd have to be a complete idiot to shell out $2,500 for that thing.

Cool, can I see a screenshot?

  • 04.05.2011 12:33 PM PDT

I can't link a video, but if you notice how maps like district will stutter a lot, or how many H2V players will complain about lag on certain maps. This is due to poor optimization.

But here's a video of ut2004 for comparasion.

Oh, and it has a mac version too, which can be downloaded even if you have the PC version.

Well your example is actually not that bad for online gameplay. It's about the same as original Halo online (which I was playing last night).
The thing about your example though is that it is obviously not as graphically intensive a Halo 2. Halo 2 has a lot of complex design in it that would make it harder for a computer to handle. I thank you for your help but I would only really be able to get a clear idea if I could see someone playing Halo 2 on a Bootcamped Mac.

Thanks, though.

Halo 2 doesn't look that great however.

Lots of low res textures and saggy framerate on certain maps (like lockout) = Fail. It's funny how a 733mhz PIII, 64mb of ram, and a GeForce4 can run the Xbox version, but the PC version lags on high end gaming PCs that are more powerful then the 360.

As on a bootcamped mac, it should run the same as on a PC with a comparable GPU.

Yeah. That's right. I don't have a 50 in H3. I never got Onyx in Reach. If a game sucks too much, I won't even bother trying for such trivial "accolades". Besides, I've done way more things that take far more skill and talent than anything that can be done in a video game.

I'm talking about, compared to his example. Don't be a dick and you won't get treated.

Looks okay to me.

This looks better then h2v, however, and doesn't stutter as much, while having less bugs in the end.

If you really think H2 looks better than UT2k4 graphically, you clearly haven't played UT2k4.

  • 04.07.2011 1:20 AM PDT

I don't think he has, either that or he has nostalgia goggles.

Besides, UT2004 is cheaper then h2v, and has more people.

I appreciate the assistance, but I'm only in the market for Halo.

And DusK, chill the -blam!- out, dude.

If you want Halo, then bootcamp or use crossover to play Halo PC. It's far better then H2V.

And I own both games.

I currently have Halo: Combat Evolved for Mac (via my friend) and I do enjoy it. I actually play online and rarely experience any lag, certainly much less than Xbox.

I do want to bootcamp my Mac though because the Custom Edition is not available for the Mac. Also, what is Crossover? Can you link it so I can read up on it? I appreciate it.

  • 04.08.2011 10:32 AM PDT

Crossover is like Wine, but closed source and designed for games. Here is the site for it. Last time I tried Halo in Wine, I only got the logo, with no menu.
