does the warthog run on hydrogen because the oil would have been long gone by 2552

  • 03.23.2011 1:43 PM PDT

There once was an ugly barnacle. He was so ugly that everyone died.

The end.

SCFH

Sure there still is oil in 2552. The humans colonized dozens of planets, i'm sure they have more then enough oil.

Trussingdoor is pretty kewl. He fires lasers and doesn't afraid of anything.

It runs on Stosh's tears. This is easy to obtain, as Stosh is blamed for everything that goes wrong in the world, so he is naturally very sad because he can't understand why we all blame him. Of course, usually it's just because he is constantly beaten up by Urk (he's such a Jerk), Nathan Fillion and Sage because they have nobody else to blame things on.
So give the guy a break for once, he needs it.

We are all going to get banned aren't we?

You can look up the specs on halopedian, but yes from what i do remember it runs on hydrogen

Doesn't it use some sort of engine that stips water of its hydrogen molecules?
Yes, it runs on water. So first it gets water from hydrogen, then burns the hydrogen back into water. Freaky. That means it's self-fueling.

I put the laughter in manslaughter

Runs on marine Hoorahs.
gets about 45 miles to the syllable.

its called hydrogen power, you separate the hydrogen and oxygen and then burn the hydrogen. not hard to do, when I was in highschool my science teacher had a device that would separate the oxygen and hydrogen and everyday after school he would light it, was pretty cool.

you need power to separate them though

I've never seen exhaust come from UNSC vehicles. Just smoke when they're really damaged. They could be hybrids.

  • 03.23.2011 2:28 PM PDT

Some sort of hydrogen fuel cell power plant (theyre real look it up) driving independent high torque electric motors in each wheel is the only way i can see it attaining the acceleration and hill climbing ability it has.

Still doesent explain why it sounds like a diesel though.

You've got to think crazy, of course, because you only get innovation by refining insanity. - Jason Jones

I'm almost certain it runs on dreams. Now that I'm thinking about it, didn't they explain this in a novel at some point? It's been years since I read those things. I would have guessed some sort of super advanced battery, but the consensus seems to be hydrogen.

"I may not be perfect, but always been true."

As with every other iteration of the Hog, each wheel has an independent drive-by-wire electric motor, with power generated by a forward-housed low-profile hydrogen I/C plant. The hydrogen fuel is burned at very high temperature with a synthetic carbon and silicon catalyst to achieve better fuel consumption.

The most recent 2553 edition features a Graf/Hauptman solar/saline actuator capable of converting up to 12 liters of fresh, brackish, or salt water into hydrogen, with increased efficiency allowing the vehicle to get a range of around 200 kilometers after an overnight condensation capture.

I copy/pasted this from the Halo Wikia article of the Civilian 'Hog, I know it may not be the best source but hey, it's something right?

It is nearly impossible to guess what type of torque a motor designed 500 years from now will get with an understanding of today's electric motors which are in their infancy as a large motor.

This one is just how Marty got the sound. Silent cars sound wimpy.

Thanks to those annoying laws of thermodynamics (and other chemistry ones_this is impossible. It takes exactly as much energy to split the water molecules apart as you will gain by reuniting them, so such a system is useless.

The second law of thermodynamics says that any self fueling car is impossible. Since energy is lost as heat in any energy transfer the car will lose energy to the environment making it necessary for outside energy to be transferred into the system. In a modern car this is gasoline, and in the warthog it is the hydrogen fuel cells (still not self sustaining!).

Go Reach.

There'll still be oil in 2552...
By then they would prbably have found something more efficient though.

"Uh, what are you doing?"
"Pin's close to empty."
"...ok..."

Huh. That's why I've never heard anything about refueling...

theres no reason you couldn't make an ICE (internal combustion engine) that ran on hydrogen, would have to have some heavyweight cylinders, pistols and head but would work otherwise, just replace the petroleum vapour with hydrogen gas, only biproduct would be water. don't think for a second that it runs on hydrogen fuel cells, since the machine makes a clear 'engine' noise, so for me its either a hydrogen ICE or hydrogen gas turbine, either works fine and both have water as waste product.
