Why is it that in the halo games we see most of the covenant's larger ships but only see the UNSC's small ships?

UNSC ships are small compared to Covenant ships.

The big ones are sitting ducks against the Covenant anyways.

And those particular ships are very rare, hence why we always see the much more commonly used frigates.

You could say the same about the Covenant Assault Carriers too, but they're not exactly sitting ducks

But there are a lot of larger ships than the frigates:
Super Carrier
Carrier
Phoenix
Battle Cruiser
Marathon
Halcyon
Charon
Destroyer (H, M, L, L2)

I'm aware of that, but if you remember your original question...

.... You'd realise I answered it. I'm not debating ship designations or anything, just saying that the reason we see alot of small UNSC ships in campaign is for the simple reason that the majority of the fleet is made up of smaller ships. They are more common.

Yes, but the frigates are to space combat what grunts are to the ground. They are small, easy to kill, and you see them everywhere.

The reason there are so many frigates in the games is that it is easier to make one model of a ship (frigate) than all of the ships in canon. Have you noticed that there are also very few Covenant ships in the games? There are the CCS class battlecruisers, the assault carriers, and now corvettes.

Smaller = More probabilities of survival against enemy salvo. So yeah, he just answered your question.

The larger ships took longer to build, cost more, need a bigger crew and used up more resources, and often destroyed just as quickly as the smaller ones.

Macs were the UNSCs best weapon against covenant ships and frigates and other small ships were basically just MAC cannons with engines. To capitalize on this the unsc concentrated on making more small ships to make up loses and build up fleets quickly.

Like on real time strategies you don't save up for giant unit such as scarabs in Halo Wars, you create infantry and light vehicles because they cost less and are produced quicker.

Bungie Pentathlon - who actually cares ?

I remember seeing a few larger UNSC ships in the assault on Cairo Station (during the cut scene) and a marathon class in the advert - Arms Race (whether its canon on not, blah blah blah)

You also see a Halcyon class get smashed by an energy beam when MC floats to a Covie ship with a rather large bomb in tow

frigates should be pretty effective ships to be honest, they are small, should have a pretty small radar cross section from the front, they are reasonably well armed as well. the best thing about frigates though, they are tactically flexible, quick and inexpensive to produce, their crews will be much smaller than larger ships reducing potential casualties, remember the UNSC cannot prevail in space. the only way the UNSC can win vs. covenant in space is with super MAC platforms, or serious outnumbering, they haven't really went on any offensives so offensively orientated capital ships are pretty much pointless for what the UNSC want, rapid deployement of ground forces usually, scouting enemy fleet movements and defending the orbital defence platforms, frigates are pretty decent at all of the above, plus they carry pretty decent anti-single ship weaponary, shiva missiles and orbital drop shock troopers.

This man, this man right here put it so eloquently that I actually cancelled my own 2000+ word long post.

The person who said participating is important, not winning, obviously never won anything.

Covenant ships have always been larger. Covenant completly master space flight, it's normal they have the capabilities needed to construct such ships of inmense size.

"I may not be perfect, but always been true."

The thing is like this, even though humans can't construct ships as big as the Covenant's, they can make tons of small, fast ships. Something similar happens with bees and other group animals, several attack a bigger target at the same time and while some may go down, they ultimately prevail.
