I know this is long but here are some of the things I'd like to see unchanged, changed, or added in the Halo CE remake. I do realize that the developer might not be able to retain everything that was great from Halo CE, but I thought I would try and point out some of the intricacies that I felt made it such a great FPS.
Single Player
Keep as much the same as you can. I wouldn't recommend changing anything about it other than possibly adding a little detail to the level environments. I'd even be happy if that didn't change
The A.I. in Halo CE is some of the best I've fought against in an FPS. I'm not saying that the enemies were the smartest. They had simple attack patterns that were easy to recognize and react appropriately. I would try to retain that. Don't add all the different variations of grunts, jackals, brutes etc. Keep it the same. It was a great campaign because of the A.I. was fun to fight against due to its simplicity. I also thought the way the Hunters animated in Halo CE were the best out of the series. Please don't make them shoot at the ground like they did in Reach.
Keep the functionality of the flashlight
I wouldn't change the difficulties either. Legendary in Halo CE was my favorite. I actually felt like I had to get better at the game to beat it and had to use every weapon I could find due to scarce ammo resources in some levels which was cool because it felt more realistic.
Multiplayer
Things to retain-some of these are general weapon systems that should be preserved everywhere they are applicable in the game.
Human Pistol bullet delay physics
All of the human weapon bullet phsyics should work the same as well
All weapon damage should remain the same excluding some functionality of the Assault Rifle and Needler mentioned below in things to change.
Plasma Rifle should immobilize other spartans
Weapon set should remain the same. Please don't add any new weapons from later Halo games. There weren't many weapons from Halo CE, but most weapons were unique and very polished in their functionality
I know they are planning on revisiting the environments to make them look more detailed. Keep the level geometry simple so that players and interactable objects are easy to read
Keep the spartan armor generally the same so that the helmet can be easily read as a separate object from the main body target. I wouldn't change the spartan animations. They looked the best in Halo CE in my opinion
Grenade physics including blast radius, smaller bounces, damage, detonation time, and how they affect player maneuverability, and weapon physics when they fly through the air
Weapon/power up spawning so that they come back on a schedule from when the game starts rather than spawning depending on when the player picked up the weapon or if the player still has the weapon
Double Melee glitch/This is a balanced tactic and is risky to perform
Quick cloaking by firing an assault rifle, shotgun, plasma rifle etc
All Vehicle physics should stay the same
Keep all 13 maps from the original xbox release
Fall damage
Health/Shield system with simplistic UI read very well in the original. I wouldn't change this
No lunging melee attacks please including using the hammer/sword. Make melee animations as exact as you can to the original. They really helped in properly timing a melee attack.
Please don't add any equipment or armor abilities.
Please don't add the ability to play as a Covenant Elite.
Things to change
The player spawning should be updated to work more like Halo Reach/Halo 3 to avoid players spawning right next to their teammates on top of grenades
Make the needler as good as it is in Halo Reach so that it is useful. It was pretty terrible in Halo CE.
I would make the assault rifle inflict more damage when firing up close to an enemy to help balance out the human pistol that some players have expressed as being too powerful. The AR is a little weaker than it should be when fired up close in my opinion. The spread should remain the same. Don't make it more accurate like the assault rifle from Reach. For the record, I don't feel the human pistol is too powerful. I think its perfect.
Things to add
Xbox Live multiplayer feature set similar to Halo Reach with all the added bells and whistles of stats, playlists etc
Possibly add some of the maps from Halo PC and new designed maps that will support the simplicity of the original Halo CE maps
Add a level editor with the depth of Forge from Halo Reach so that players can build levels with simple level geometry.
