This man, this man right here put it so eloquently that I actually cancelled my own 2000+ word long post.

The person who said participating is important, not winning, obviously never won anything.

What about Halo Reach? Exodus?

I'm sure some of them must have gained access to weapons from fallen marines or troopers or even from dead Covenant infantry and used them. They might not be the best shots, but atleast they are extra guns in play.

Honestly they wouldn't be that useful. They have no training, and are just as likely to shoot a friendly because of nerves as the enemy. But if they were lucky they might be able to kill something small like a grunt.

If I were a soldier and were severly outnumberd by the Covenant, I wouldint doubt in giving my pistol or even another weapon somewhere around to a capable looking civialian. Obviously, I wouldint give the weapon to a terrified looking citizen or someone that's out of it. Atleast they could help in someway in suppressing the enemy.

They would do more armed, than unarmed.

Every bit helps, and you would be surprised what people can accomplish in high stress situations. I am positive that the occasional civilian saw a gun laying around somewhere and decided to help fight for his home, even if it was brief.

Maybe, but there is a flipside to putting untrained people in high stress situations. They are capable of things we once thought were impossible, but they are also scared to death. They will likely shoot at any sound or sign of movement which can and does lead to friendly fire.

The other point about civilians is that they won't be much good against an elite (shielded) or other large covies, unless you find a group with the presence of mind to either concentrate their fire or the skill to leave booby traps.

"Ignorance is a plague."

Close, but the plague killed those infected with it, and the ignorant are still alive.
I wish ignorance was a plague.

If whole companies of marines are easily wiped out. (Think Fall of Reach), what chance do random civilians have?

“Strange,” mused the Director, as they turned away, “strange to think that even in Our Ford’s day most games were played without more apparatus than a ball or two and a few sticks and perhaps a bit of netting. imagine the folly of allowing people to play elaborate games which do nothing whatever to increase consumption.”

The Black Chapter!

Do the smugglers in Reach (Nightfall) count for anything?

sure they're untrained, but i think it would be hard to confuse a human with an alien, under any circumstances

I'm pretty sure they were rebels, so they were experienced and probably had some form of training, even though it was not UNSC sanctioned.

It is not hard to tell between a covie and a human on the open battlefield (the circumstances under which Halo games are played). But imagine this:

You are holed up in a room somewhere, it's dark because the power is out. You know that the Covenant are nearby, and you found an assault rifle. You are alone and you are terrified, after all you know what those aliens do to people. You hear a noise coming from the door.

In situations where you can't see the enemy people who are scared will shoot at sounds or signs of movement without verifying what they are shooting at.

In Sadies story the Propaganda is encouraging the public to do uprisings and attack the Covenant with hit and run tactics I believe stating "The Militia" is hitting back hard.

Which was all complete bull-blam!- by the way.

Of course civilians fought.

Take any situation throughout history with invading aggressors; there are always civilians willing to form a resistance. Especially so with an alien aggressor.

There doesn't need to be an explanation. Humanity in Halo is still humanity. When backed into a corner, we try our best to fight our way out.

They would be destroyed, but I was working on a mod a little while back to bring civilian weapons into CE. Got waylaid.

Don't worry, you're still your mom's favorite Bnet member.

The only civilians I see fighting back are the rebels, because they were the only ones with access to guns!

actually you don't know what they do to people. You may not even believe they exist.

The Rebels are idiots. Half of them wanted to join the Covenant.

Hanger one I just shredded with the SMGs until ammo was out and I just threw 'nades like a boss while BRing.

My experience playing Cairo Station on Legendary

I would think that in 2552 people would have EASY access to weapons. I'm surprised that groups of civilians didn't form any hunting clubs...

A Militia sniper save my ass by putting one right into the face of a semi-cloaked spec-ops Elite on Nightfall. I think they're pretty good shots.

The Rubble dosent represent what's left of the Insurgency. Not even close.

Even then, a few people in Rubble wanted to join the Covenant, most importantly, Bonifacio.

There is a significant difference between a militia member (rebel) and a civilian. The rebel has probably been fighting the UNSC for years, and if he is associated with one of the larger anti-UNSC movements then he has probably been trained.

A civilian would have no training or experience and it is unlikely that he would be able to pull off such a feat. Definitely not more than once.
