Subject: ODST 2 needs to happen.

So much potential. It should not be wasted. Just change the play style a bit. Add stealth mission to it as well? Tell me that wouldn't be an awesome game?

Space. The Final Frontier. These are the voyages of Murphy's Laws on the StarShip Enterprise

Only if it's set a good few years into Halo's future, and with spartans instead of ODST's

I agree.

ODST could be played in the past. Although it dosent necesarily need to be Buck's squad, it could be Buck and the squad he had when he fought on Reach, or when he fought in the Liberation of Harvest or any of the theaters he's been in.

There is alot of potential there. And even then, it dosent have to be about Buck. It could be about another ODST squad.

But I would want it of either ODST's or an Elite Spec Ops team during the war. Either would be fine.

  • 03.25.2011 2:21 PM PDT

I thought ODSTs played way too much like spartans, they really need to make them play like vulnerable, but strong soldiers.

I want Halo games in other era's and not only Human-covie war.

I think it's enough, unless they come up with halo wars 2.

Make games in post halo 3 verse and even the Forerunner era

I agree, they played a lot more like the Spartan IIIs from Reach.

Now that I'm thinking about it ODST seems like it was a trial run for Reach. You are slower and more vulnerable, you have health, no dual wielding, six person squad, missions with specific members, the story is intentionally less epic (not an insult, both ODST and Reach were set on a smaller scale than the trilogy, no galaxy wide consequences), and you get night vision.

That's what I mean. With the Reach engine it really allows them to expand more rather than just tweak the gameplay and power. Which was what they really did in ODST it was just more of a MOD rather than a game. It only took 3 months to make and in those 3 months that added an interesting twist.

Even better.

ODST's during the Battle of Jericho VII. Probably the next biggest battle after Reach.

Better again.

Both! In fact why not have the campaign follow a squad of ODSTs all through the war starting with Harvest and fighting on numerous different planets throughout the timeline. It would be an interesting way to flesh out the details and the gradual loss of colonies might emphasise the darker mood we were promised with Reach but never got.

That would be epic.

One thing that they would have to do would be focusing more on character development than they have before.

If they did that then it could be the Halo game with a story that can even come close to that of Halo 2.

I'm thinking possible loose of fellow squadmates, and the how reemplacements take their spots and how the original squadmembers dont like him so much, stuff like that. It would do great for character development.

I would really like to see Buck's squad from ODST, again. The characters really grew on me. Even that smartass, Romeo. I would like to see a return of those characters. Also, they need to be more vulnerable. I felt a little too much like a Spartan. And they need to add a few stealth missions. And I don't mean Reach's so-called "stealth mission". I mean real missions where everything is done under the radar. Reach's "stealth mission" was simply assassinated one unaware Elite. The rest of the mission wasn't secretive at all.

EDIT: Character development needs to take a huge role in the game also. I want to actually be attached to the characters like I did with Buck's squad in ODST.

It could follow each individual ODST from "the squad" through the previous engagements that they were in.

  • 03.25.2011 5:43 PM PDT

In a time long past, the armies of the dark came again to the lands of men. Their leaders became known as the fallen lords, and their terrible sorcery was without equal in the west.
In 30 years they reduced the civilized nations into carrion and ash. Until the free city of Madrigal alone defined them. An army gathered there, and a desperate battle was joined against the fallen
Heros were born in the fire and bloodshed of the wars which followed and their names and deeds will never be forgotten

That sounds cool.

I would think the ODST's would fight on Earth and maybe end up on the ARK with the chief.

The ODST comics really developed the relationship and friendship between Dutch and Romeo and added a real depth to the characters. I'd love a game with a more of a human element to it and being able to see the effects of a prolonged war on the characters.

As for the stealth aspect, I was sorely disappointed to find that the suppressors on the ODST's guns were solely aesthetic additions for coolness. I was really hoping that if there was a group of enemies walking the streets you could pick them off silently without the others knowing. Unfortunately as soon as the first shot is fired the AI know exactly where you are. I too would love an actual stealth mission with actual stealth mechanics: working suppressors, suppressed sniping etc. Reach took a step in the right direction with assassinations and knives and I hope this concept can be continued. Unfortunately I think my dreams of ODST meets Splinter Cell meets Modern Warfare (yeah I said it) stealth missions will never come to fruition.

Brains beats brawn get used to it

Fear the Red Comet

Variety is the spice of life.
Long live games.
Death to all fanboys.

Thing is though that suppressors in real life don't actually make for "silent" weapons. They're used to mask the sound of a gun and where that sound originates from in the midst of other sounds such as unsuppressed gunfire. And of course sure there's the whole "it's a game" argument and what not, but it's kinda irksome how there's this misconception that silenced weapons mean they're silent in relatively peaceful calm settings when in reality firing a silenced weapon when nothing is happening is essentially the same as firing a non-silent weapon.

I understand that. I simply mean that from a realistic distance, lets say from one end of a street in New Mombasa to the other or from a building to street level, it is unlikely that one would here the suppressed *pfft* of the guns. Same applies to sniping, from great distances the gunshot is silent. I would have like that to be incorporated.

Another nice touch would be if you could hear more ambient battle sounds. You could use these sounds to your advantage (i.e. if you shoot something the sound could be drowned out by a nearby explosion), making the game more realistic. It would also add another element of difficulty to the game and another layer to the stealth beyond not being seen.

I realize that silenced weapons aren't completely silenced, but they are, still, pretty damn silent. And since it's 500 years in the future, I believe they can make it so it makes barely any sound at all. Maybe not, but who knows.

and your squad members get killed fairly often. it would be multiple games. it could really follow an entire platoon or company, but closely follow a squad and you play as all of that squad. by the end of it you could have an entirely new squad except maybe one guy and even talk about friends dieing in the rest of the platoon so it will show just how much death there was.

I started up the heated debate on whether the SPARTAN-II in the cryo tube near the end of Reach is really Linda.
I created the Moa XING avatar pic.
Also I earned the All Star nameplate with this submission to Week 14 All Stars http://www.bungie.net/images/News/Inline11/bwu_0415/art/likea boss.jpg

Honestly I would like to see a ODST 2 be made with the Reach engine. So it would be like Reach: ODST 2?

I think a more talkative Rookie would be nice too. He's mysterious and interesting. Maybe he doesn't even talk directly, but maybe they should have flashbacks of the Rookie's life before he became an ODST. Or incidents or things that happened to him while he was an ODST or in training or something. Just something interesting that they would represent in a flashback would be cool.
