Intolerance is the highest level of stupidity and inbred thinking.

Mendicant Bias is the rampant forerunner AI. Linky. And as it was stated, the Arbiter's half of the ship made it back to Earth. MC drew the short straw and got stranded.

Whats mendicant Bias?

Mendicant Bias is a 100,000 year old Forerunner AI who defected to the Gravemind during the Forerunner-Flood war. When he was defeated by Offensive Bias, he was split into fragments and they were scattered around the Ark and the Keyship. When Truth arrived at the Ark, the fragments were reunited and over the course of 100,000 years of solitude he reached the final stage of rampancy (metastability) where he essentially "became a true person".

Bias sought atonement for betraying the Forerunners and says that John will be his example. He's been acting behind the scenes for a long time, he even almost destroyed High Charity in 2534 when he attempted to prematurely launch the Keyship.

That happend in 2525, the main reason the Covenant declared Holy War on Humanity was because of Medicant.

And on your first post, Medicant Bias had something to do with the Arbiter passing through the portal, and the Master Chief not?
But wouldint he have been destroyed when Alpha Halo detonated?

Typo. :P

John and Cortana did make it through the Portal.

"The Portal couldn't sustain itself, we made it through just as it collapsed." ~ Cortana

But wouldint he have been destroyed when Alpha Halo detonated?

Indeed, however the Return (motion comic) depicts humans discovering a Monitor. This may be yet another fragment of Bias.

If it isn't, then it seems his final sacrifices was to ensure the survival of the Reclaimer and have his creators know he's atoned.

He was first mentioned by Cortana in Halo 2 whilst on High Charity as well when she notes that there is some kind of artificial construct within the Keyship:

"I'll do what I can to slow the launch sequence, but there's something inside the ship... a presence that's fighting back. For a Covenant construct, it's unusually formidable."

He's been manipulating events during Halo 3 to ensure John fulfilled his task, then (as is heavily suggested) sent John to the Forerunners as his final proof of atonement.

Because the Forerunners passed down the Mantle (guardianship of life in the galaxy) to humanity, that's why humanity are able to use Forerunner technology and the Covenant can't. Humans are Reclaimers.

From what i've read online the forerunner destroyed us in a war and sent us back to the stone age so why would they make their enemies the reclaimers?

The current theory is that since humanity was able to fight off the flood once before the Forerunners chose us to uphold the mantle so that we could defeat the flood if and when it returned.

We will probably know more when the rest of the saga comes out.

I dont have the answer to that since I havent read Cryptum, but I strongly recommend you start reading the Halo novels to start soaking up information.

Reading online so much information at once is going to confuse you. Go slow.

I saw Cryptum a few days ago at some book store but I didn't know if you needed to read the other halo novels to understand what was going on in it, so if I started reading the novels with Cryptum would I be lost?

That happened 10,000 years before the Halos were fired. The humans were spreading too rapidly through space and taking over hundreds of worlds, they were arrogantly using Precursor technology to create weapons that would contest the Forerunners and the Mantle (as Ancient Humans believed they should be the ones to hold the Mantle).

Yet one might compare this to World War I and the events that followed through the 1920's onwards, over time after punishment people forgive. It was not until very late in the Forerunner-Flood war that the Forerunners became wise, the Librarian saw that humanity was indeed a special race and they truly were to be the Reclaimers of the Mantle.

Cryptum is very much stand-alone from the rest of the Halo novels, but it helps if you know some of the specialist terms and phrases (I suggest taking a look at this).

That to a degree and the fact is is the sole reason the forerunners lost the war to the flood.

The other half of the frigate, which Arbiter was on, made it though the portal back to earth.

medicant told the prophets humans were reclaimers and the prophets realizing that it would undermine thier religion covered it up and declared war
