This man, this man right here put it so eloquently that I actually cancelled my own 2000+ word long post.
/slow clap for respect
:)
The person who said participating is important, not winning, obviously never won anything.

I'm not talking about Kurt or the Spartans on Onyx, I'm talking about the others, the 315 out there, I'm sure they would have sent contact to Onyx only to not receive a reply. They would eventually be concerned, send a team to check it out, lose the team that was sent by the Onyx sentinels and eventually give up hope or they all go in and try to find them. Whatever it is, they would be listed MIA after a long time of no contact.
No.
Gamma Company was currently out system on an op. They wouldint have time to be worrying about what was happening on Onyx. Anyways, the Agincourt was sent in, and never returned, bringing back a messege that Onyx was compromised.
Gamma had no idea what was going on. I doubt they would have gone back. They would have all died. No fleet, Covenant nor Human could stack up against trillions of Onyx Sentinels.
Well that is where things get interesting. They had no idea what was going on, lets say after their op, they were told to return to Onyx with their superiors, they attempt to make contact with no response before their departure. The message sent by Agincourt would have taken a while to have reached any colony, remember, Onyx is pretty much on the outer rim, it would be a while.
Even then, I doubt Gamma Company would do one op and return to base. Considering the distance Spartan III's targets had, I'm sure they would complete mission after mission.
Remember the Agincourt was delivering supplies for the upcoming Delta Company. Onyx installation wouldint have space for two companies; over 600 Spartan's + personel working at the camp.
