We've seen these in varying configurations of two and four fins on the bottom of the nose section of all Covenant CCS Class Battlecruisers, but we've never had an explanation as to what purpose they serve. Post your thoughts; discuss.

In a time long past, the armies of the dark came again to the lands of men. Their leaders became known as the fallen lords, and their terrible sorcery was without equal in the west.
In 30 years they reduced the civilized nations into carrion and ash. Until the free city of Madrigal alone defined them. An army gathered there, and a desperate battle was joined against the fallen
Heros were born in the fire and bloodshed of the wars which followed and their names and deeds will never be forgotten

Maybe it was just how they were produced or maybe an "older model" and a newer model.

I doubt it has anything to do with status or class regarding the ships themselves.

This man, this man right here put it so eloquently that I actually cancelled my own 2000+ word long post.

The person who said participating is important, not winning, obviously never won anything.

Maybe they were the sensors?

This is possible, but I'm not quite convinced seeing as there're many other, smaller Covenant ships with capabilities that are close to those of a CCS in terms of Navigation etc, but they don't need huge fins to help them out with that. Once again, it's certainly possible.

Anyone reading this owes me a keyboard.

I think it's just for physical appearances only, I've not seen or heard about them having any purpose at all besides being more scenery on the ship.

Possibly sensors, but I personally believe its just made in the Covenant's view of their religion. The Covenant seem to care more about their religion and faith than actual advantages and tools of war.

Remember, the Covenant are imitative, not innovative like their Human enemies.

Com'on...use some common sense here...if the Prophets have goatees...stands to reason that the ships they use for their own..."ego-boosting", would have goatees too!

The Prophets have to show off to the fleet which ships they are in.

I've wondered about that myself. Possibly some sort of radiator panels?

Cooling fins for the ships reactors/engines? But if thats the case, I don't know why they would be in the front.

  • 03.25.2011 10:51 PM PDT

Possibly for steering, I've wondered this too.

Freedom has two parts: potential and resolution; as metaphors have two parts : form and interpretation; of course, the two are intertwined. Metaphor lines the road to freedom, as symbols and words are the bricks and mortar of meaning. Freedom being the briocoleus, the mason.

More likely for the glassing beam, but that's amidships.

My jokes, so I don't lose them (ignore this):
ZedFish's Opinion on Sgt. Foley.
ZedFish's Forerunner Rickroll.

I have a feeling it's just for aesthetics. Alot of elements of Covenant architecture and design are simply for show.

you are a good translator
Idiot can be a hard language to learn, but once you get it down, everything becomes so clear! The whole world will make sense to you.

Battering Ram.

Actually, that would be kind of cool if the fins had massive energy sword blades that activated when they plowed UNSC ships.
