Subject: The final Mission In Halo reach... LONE WOLF

Marine Sanders
Major 1st Division U.S.M.C.

You cannot exaggerate about the Marines. They are convinced to the point of arrogance, that they are the most ferocious fighters on earth- and the amusing thing about it is that they are.

I have a few questions regarding the ending to Halo Reach:
1) Why did Noble Six stop at the location that he did?
2) Why not just continue on to Castle base at the near Mechanite Mountain?
3) Who were the other Spartans defending the final location of LONE WOLF?
4) Why would they defend such an insignificant place?

1. They were probably expecting evac, but it never happened.
2. Did you see a way for him to do so?
3. Probably what's left of Gauntlet and Echo Teams.
4. They probably weren't defending it, see point 1.

1) There's a battle going on there. Six probably wanted to participate and help out in any capacity. If you stop to look at the area that Six looks at in the cutscene you'll see UNSC and Covenant forces fighting down there.

2) Six probably didn't know where Castle was exactly, and even then transport would be problematic.

3) A mystery at the moment

4) Possibly a skirmish between the two forces encountering one another at that location, or a defensive line the UNSC set up to prevent any Covenant from attacking the Autumn from that particular direction.

1. They defending the base to the PoA. If you look down on PoA, you'll see humans fighting scarabs and Covies. On lone wolf, if you look up you can see where you were earlier on the level PoA.

2. He provabley went down there looking for surviving Spartans. I don't think he knew about castle base.

1. The PoA was already gone, why would they defend it?
2. Carter mentioned CASTLE Base, but Six had no way of getting there.

1. The battle was still raging down under the Autumn between groud forces, he probably went down to help. Bad choice.

2. Castle Base as in the complete other direction of where the Shipbreaking yards of Azod were. Noble 6 had no way to get there before the Covenant glassed the whole area to hell.

3. Probably RED, ECHO and GAUNTLET teams Jun mentioned in New Alexandria's closing cutscene. The Shipbreaking years of Azod were the last off-planet extraction point left on the continent, and the Spartan's objectives was civilian evac ops. Which is what I guess they were exactly doing.

4. Read #3. Must have been some sort of area were civilians were brought to get taken off planet. Notice the sheer ammount of dead Spartan's and Troopers there, it had to be for a reason. Unless of course, it was just all for psychological(?) effect on the player, stating out ''this is it, here you die''.

1. They can't exactly pull out of the blue. They'd have to fight their way out. In the sorry state Reach is now at, I'd imagine that air transport would no longer be a feasible means of retreating.

2. Mentioning a place does not even remotely mean that it automatically tells you where such a place is. I can go tell you and five others to go to Kenya right now, and sure while you may have heard that everyone is going to Kenya, no one stopped to tell you were it was.

1. I like to believe they were told air transport was coming for them, but it never came.
2. I don't doubt Six had no idea where CASTLE Base was, but he heard about it for sure.

1)He probably picked up the IFF tags of the dead spartans and went to investigate.

2)He either didn't know about Castle Base, got side tracked by the dead spartans, was just wandering around aimlessly, that area was designated a evac point or was a trap to lure in desperate survivors. I only say that because its a bit suspicious that Six and those other spartans ended up there and covenant start coming out of the woodwork when he shows up.

3)Most likely either RED, ECHO, or GAUNTLET teams.

4)Either they were going to Castle Base or headed to the PoA since Dot says that was the last evac point on that continent and were ambushed like Six.

  • 03.25.2011 9:18 PM PDT

Don't worry, you're still your mom's favorite Bnet member.

1. I don't know if he "stopped" there, he may have just gotten caught in the fight without a way to escape.
2. Castle Base is far too far for Six to ever make it on foot.
3. We don't know, probably Echo Team.
4. See #1.

  • 03.25.2011 9:42 PM PDT

1. Most likely stopped at the sign of all the dead spartans.
2. What good is it if it was blown up?
3. Most likely Echo or Gauntlet
4. Why not? It was basically a last stand, nothing to defend at that point anyway.

  • 03.25.2011 10:07 PM PDT

By the power of truth, I, while living, have conquered the universe.

1) Aszod was being used as an evac area (Dot states it's the only off-planet extraction point left on the continent), it's likely the Autumn wasn't the only exfiltration craft in that area. So it would seem logical to assume that Gauntlet and Echo Team were the Spartans defending the area, as they had been assigned to civilian evac operations.

2) CASTLE Base is on the other side of the continent, good luck to him walking there...

3) See #1.

4) See #1.

Ok but in the cut scene you see Halsey and Jun fly towards that trademark "SplitPeak" mountain (Mechanite Mountain; Home to Castle Base). So why, when he was so close, just stop and fight? There was plenty of good cover in the surrounding hills.

  • 03.26.2011 9:45 AM PDT

it was a rally point the bird never got there and by the time six did everyone was dead that explains why there were still high ranking elites in the area

There should've been a warthog run to try and get to a remote base with a Pelican there. You get to and leave, but you never get there in time. It's like Lone Wolf, you still die but this is more epic. You race in a Hog. Like the regular mission you take a certain amount of damage then it goes into a cut-scene. But you die anyway, before you reach it it goes into a scene where a glassing beam shoots down on the base an blows it up, then N6 looks up to see the ship over head and it glasses him. Ending the game.

I would ragequit life after that.... I would send Bungie Hatemail for an eternity... I almost did after Master Chief was left to float in space forever after the end of Halo 3. (I know about the legendary ending... I DONT NEED A RECAP! I NEED A GOOD SEQUEL!)

The Mechanite Mountain are not in Aszod.

Apparently so.... Bungie pretty much made that apparent. If it was in the cutscene then it was in Aszod.

Ok time for a geography lesson.... Castle Base is a subterranean base that is directly below Mechanite Mountain. Mechanite mountain is an abandoned Titanium Mine. Hence the giant gash in its peak.

Can you point to where that mountain you are refering to is refered to as Mechanite Mountain? And yes, First Strike says it's a titanium mine. However, First Strike doesn't say it has a giant gash down the middle. If it does, give me the page number so I can correct myself.

Oh good! A fellow Book reader. I am just saying. Halsey and Jun flew off towards the mountain in question in the cut scene. Six was very near to said mountain. And as you should know, Halsey ended up at Castle Base.

I think its intentionally ambiguous...you make Noble 6 who you want him to be...

Now heres a situation, and you can view it as any number of different things...
