I started up the heated debate on whether the SPARTAN-II in the cryo tube near the end of Reach is really Linda.
I created the Moa XING avatar pic.
Also I earned the All Star nameplate with this submission to Week 14 All Stars http://www.bungie.net/images/News/Inline11/bwu_0415/art/likea boss.jpg

What do you guys think is the purpose of the Forerunner structure at the end of ODST (Legendary Ending).
It could be possible that it is directly linked to the Portal. Maybe a activation chamber?
Now if you read Halo Evolutions, you know that scientists know that power is still on in the machinary of the Portal. There are many tunnels underneath the Portal that are still being searched by the scientists.

What do you guys think?
Here are (what I thnk) all the possible answers.

-Portal control center/power source
-The Librarian's facility when she was incharge of Earth.
-Mysterious Forerunner structures that have nothing to do with any of these

What if there's old human tech hidden somehwere deep in the tunnels that the Forerunners held onto?

Pretty sure that WAS the portal, the entire thing was under New Mombasa the entire time, hence the huge dig site in H3.

It just seems pointless for Bungie to put that scene in there if it was just like a control or activation center for the Portal. Or just simply part of the Portal.
It's like "yea we showed them the portal in ODST, but lets have this underground part of the Portal and not say it is just so that the fans can speculate in vain"

No speculations. It was the portal.

Remember at the end of The Storm in Halo 3? It's the artifact in the ground that opens up the portal.

It's where they first discovered the Portal, that's what every piece of evidence shows. Doctor Endesha continuously states that the seismic activity he read came from beneath Vergil's data center, in the Legendary Ending it turns out it's the Portal Artefact we see (along with Vergil's data center).

It's tying in ODST to Halo 3 for those who aren't quite as invested in the lore.
