I've always wondered how they got back, seeing as no elite ships were present at the time of the storm. Plus, there were no Human ships around, so how did they get back?

Maybe they came back with a small Sangheili ship and we didn't saw it in Halo3.

Johnson and Miranda never made it back. They died without coming home. But if you mean the other humans then.....

We are aboard....Humans and Elites. Will you not come with us brother. No, this is our fight and i will see it finished.

There once was an ugly barnacle. He was so ugly that everyone died.

The end.

SCFH

Most likely escaped in a Elite Phantom, which they boarded a Elite cruiser and went back to Earth.

Possible, but if it's true, why didn't we see or hear anything about in Halo 3 or fiction? I think I found a plothole in Halo's storyline :D.

Oh sorry, thats was just my first impression.

My best guess? Being that the Arbiter had basically stopped the war between Humanity and Elites. I guess they would've hitched a ride in the cruiser from the level The great journey that the ship-master stole.

I know you are joking but....

There wouldn't have been a point in explaining that small time period because it is semi obvious how they got back. The Elites took them back.

BUT they were on Earth prior to the elites arrival. That doesn't make sense, including how Rtas states that him and the others were defending the line of some sort. I dont think they came to Earth prior, as Truth's fleet had an iron fist over the plant, maily africa. SO say if they did hitch a ride with Rtas, why did he suddenly dissappear to defend a line against the Flood outbreak on High Charity, when he had a small fleet of ships fully capable of doing it themselves. Logic reasons e should have remained on Earth and give support to the Humans.

They went to try and take back high charity. It says it in the book first strike? I think.
Either way, the Shadow of intent's Shipmaster was either doing that or regrouping with other Elites and spreading the word of the peace between humanity.

I'm sure that the Arbiter, being the highest ranked Elite of them all (religiously at least) would have easily been able to commandeer a frigate to take to Earth.

  • 03.28.2011 3:42 AM PDT

Most likely they used the shadow of intent, Rtas 'Vadum wouldn't have left his carrier unmanned, the Arbiter, Miranda and Johnson were probably picked up and taken to Earth to chase truth.

  • 03.28.2011 3:43 AM PDT

-blam!- Was that actually blammed out? Or did I just type it? You'll never know.

It's left to the imagination because it's not an important plot point.

  • 03.28.2011 3:49 AM PDT

Don't worry, you're still your mom's favorite Bnet member.

The other Elites picked them up. A quote from the final mission of Halo 2:
"The Brutes control that cruiser Arbiter! I'll stay here, make sure no reinforcements get in behind you! Then, we'll take the cruiser back!" - Rtas Vadam
Perhaps after Arbiter killed Tartarus the Elites picked them up and they all went back to Earth. Perhaps the Elites were engaging Truth's fleets in orbit while the humans dealt with ground forces (until of course The Flood showed up)

  • 03.28.2011 3:54 AM PDT

it is not nesesarily a plot hole, just a part of the story that has not been explained.

Chances are, the hiched aride on the Shadow of Intent and got back to earth with Rtas

You have to remember that at this point, the Elites and humans still hated each other. Really the only Elite that may have had a slightly higher respect for humans at this point was the Arbiter, because Johnson helped him kill Tartarus. The Elites' priority was fighting the Flood and looking for Cortana, who could single handedly end the war. They just let humanity deal with Truth; Flood>>Covenant, and humans aren't exactley good at fighting the Flood.

Therefore, Rtas dropped the surviving humans of Halo 05 off at Earth, then sped off to High Charity to lead his fleet against the infection. Once the infection reached Earth, THEN they decided to help out. Really it seems as if the Elites were unconcerned about the battle of earth until the Flood arived.

Ever notice how the fleet didn't show up at Earth until the level Floodgate?

It's Quite obvious they went through the plot hole back to earth; fun fact: Plot Holes double as effective Wormholes.

They most likely got a ride back with the Arbiter.

  • 03.28.2011 8:38 AM PDT

They had the largest Covenant fleet anyone's ever seen at their disposal. I'm sure they could have taken one puny quick-transit ship to Earth.

I'm a bit surprised there hasn't been a short story/novel/comic about this yet, but it's possible that Karen Travis' novel (the GoO parallel) will answer it.

I don't see why since it is a minor "hole" and the events are post halo 3.

I am assuming that this is about the ending of halo 2? remember when Rtas said he was going to take the cruiser back and then has a cruiser in halo 3?

That summed it up for me.

If I remember correctly from Ghosts of Onyx, Cortana sent a transmission from High Charity calling for more UNSC ships or something like that, it is possible that Miranda, Johnson, and Arbiter returned on a human ship, or they hitch hiked along the inter galactic space high way :P

Ghosts of Onyx takes place between Halo 2 and 3, and the upcoming novel isn't a direct sequel, so it's quite possible that something taking place along the same time frame could be about Johnson/Miranda. Since Blue Team/Halsey and MC's exploits have already been covered by a novel and comics respectively, I think this is really the only thing left to do (other than Grey Team, possibly), and it would be interesting to really go into the details of the truce between the Sangheili and humanity.

I haven't read any of Travis's works, but as I understand from what others have said here, she's gone as far as to craft things like extensive vocabularies of alien languages in past works. Seems like this sort of suits her. Then again, so far, none of the past authors have been that well suited to writing the books. The novels have consistently failed to deliver from a character development standpoint, but that's just my opinion.

From what I've heard Karen Travis pretty much single-handedly developed the most important aspects of the Mandalorians in Star Wars and was the one most responsible for shaping them into the guys we all know and love today. And she wrote the Halo short story Human Weakness, which I have heard very good things about, so yeah, I trust her abilities as a writer.

But small Plotholes lead to bigger ones, and here is a bigger one.......

How did they drop Johnson and miranda on Earth or even in Africa when Truth's fleet could have shot them down at any minute? Halo has big Plotholes.
