Subject: Why was Miranda Alone?

Look at the Cutscene "Miranda's Death".

Link

Why wasn't Miranda with a team of Marines, or a group of Elites?

How the hell could she think they could make it out alive alone with no support aside from a Shotgun and an M6G?

Every time I watch this I shake my head, she could have made it out if she just had reinforcements...

Agreed. At the very least, why wasn't her co-pilot present. We already know from the opening cutscene of the level that she had one with her during that mission.

Time was short, and her main goal was to kill Johnson and then herself to prevent Truth from using one of them to fire the Halos. It would make more sense to go alone, because more humans means a higher chance of the Halos being activated.

Maybe she didn't have time to get a squad together to go get Johnson. This would beg the question, why was she flying around in a pelican all by herself?

I think the real reason she didn't just fly in with a squad of ODSTs is that Bungie wanted to add some emotion to the game by killing off characters. It failed IMO because they killed off too many. That could also be because she just looked stupid for flying in there on her own and it was kind of obvious that she was about to die from the camera angle.

Maybe her death was karma for the "to war" line.

Watch the cutscene again, her goal wasn't to kill Johnson, it was Johnson's idea to begin with. She wanted to get him out, a simple extraction. You are wrong my friend, she didn't come up with it, she thought she could take them all although Truth proved otherwise and she knew what she had to do, Johnson, sealed the deal and there went the Spiker.

Indeed. My apologies, I have not played Halo 3 in ages and didn't bother with the link.

Anyways, time was actually short, and she just wanted to help out an old friend. She wasn't getting any elite backup either because she told them to stay away from the flood.

Sorry again for acting high and mighty.

No it wasn't when she had to think about what Johnson told her to do. If it was her plan she would've done it from the get go.

The big question is (assuming she went straight to Truth) why her Co-pilot was not present with her. If time was so short, then she wouldn't have had time to drop him/her off. Not only that, if she dropped off his/her co-pilot, it is incredibly stupid writing wise that she didn't just bother to pick up Chief and the Arbiter (whilst dropping off the co-pilot) and bust in with those two rather than have them wait for the elevator.

Now, obviously for reasons of cinematic drama it should only be her, but logic wise the absence of a co-pilot is unexplainable and illogical. Heck, just the fact that the Chief and the Arbiter had to wait for the bridge and elevator in the first place was rendered absolutely stupid and pointless when it turned out you can just smash a pelican in there from the get go.

I'm not trying to shoot down your plane or anything, but honestly would the co-pilot really would have made a difference anyway?

For the sake of consistency yes. While it does not affect the story one bit, it is still an irksome thing for me whenever things magically disappear as a direct result of pacing or poor editing. For example in movies when things are in some shots, then magically disappear or rearranged in the following shot.

Um... concerning Chief and Arbiter catching a ride.

A: They were ALREADY INSIDE(And at the elevator) when the information became known.
B: By the time they would have ran outside and gotten in the pelican, it wouldn't have saved time.

The only reason she charged in there alone was for drama. Thats the only somewhat reasonable excuse. Bungie planned for her to die so they had her do something stupid to allow it to happen. Same with Kats death.

If Miranda wanted to rescue Johnson or stop Truth from firing the rings she could've easily picked up a few squads of marines before crashing into the building.

  • 03.28.2011 11:07 PM PDT

The pelicans at that point were empty. Landing to pick up a squad would have wasted valuable time, which was very needed at that point.

actually, her primary objective was to make it out with johnson. then johnson persuaded her to just kill him because they wouldn't make it out of the citadel. btw, where did the gravemind's tentacle come from at the end?

The smart move would to be shoot Truth in the head the brutes would most likely not activate the rings and just kill them so that they both die and so does Truth seeing as a brute was about to kill Joshnson.

Maybe her co-pilot and/or other marines died when the pelican impacted the glass. Maybe she was the only survivor?

Or perhaps she just stole the pelican? Anyway, wouldn't you being doing desperate things if the world was about to end and you had a chance to save it, albeit a slim one?

Only person in the pelican would have been her and a co-pilot. For the final part of the Ark, the pelicans were empty.

What a waste....

I think she was hoping Chief would get there and she would arrive at the same time. That's why she asked him how close he was.

The real question is, why not use the chin gun?

She could have brought Elites then. They're better than marines anyway.
