Theme Builders

Because she's a retarded bimbo. I figure that out in Halo 2.

It's a metaphor for the 07s' lack of identity. too old to be newfag, yet too new to be oldfag, we wander b.net in search of a home, forever trying to be something we are not.

Never really thought about it but it's an interesting question.

Time was short, and her main goal was to kill Johnson and then herself to prevent Truth from using one of them to fire the Halos. It would make more sense to go alone, because more humans means a higher chance of the Halos being activated.

This actually seems like a good theory.

if that was her goal, why didn't she just hover and use the pelicans chin gun it's supposed to have?

Even if the plot demands her death, have a Banshee blindside it like they typicly do.

Maybe her co-pilot and/or other marines died when the pelican impacted the glass. Maybe she was the only survivor?

Only person in the pelican would have been her and a co-pilot. For the final part of the Ark, the pelicans were empty.

Exactly.

For those that don't remember, Keyes' Pelican unloads a Marine squad and Mongoose for the Chief once you clear the beach at the start of the level. For the remainder of the mission she just flies overhead in her pelican. So the only other person that would be aboard her Pelican at the time of the crash would be her co-pilot.

Given Keyes' status after the crash it would be unlikely that the co-pilot would have died on impact as the cockpit was not compromised upon impact, and Keyes being perfectly fine is a testament to a pilot's survivability in that situation.

Darn drama and its emphasis on subject characters over consistency.

  • 03.29.2011 9:42 AM PDT

I never understood that either.

  • 03.29.2011 12:49 PM PDT

She probably rammed a Covenant ship with Forward Unto Dawn, then accidentally ejected towards Johnson's location...

Oh, wait, that was a different ship.

You were totally and absolutely correct in every way, I don't know why we were arguing, you're so amazing I should never have doubted you.

Had she been packing an M6D, things would've turned out differently.

I doubt after she gave you a mongoose she was randomly flying around in her pelican. She couldn't get elites because the Halo rings would have been activated by then. With Johnson of no value, the Brutes would have executed him. Also, she said for the elites to stay away from the flood, which had crashed nearby.

About the Co-pilot thing, if you look into the cockpits of Pelicans that you can see into, I only ever see one pilot.

One last thing, I apologized for me thinking I was smarter than everyone in tis thread after the OP pointed out I was wrong.

  • 03.29.2011 1:20 PM PDT

maybe the pilot died an the crash? I know it's unlikely since it was a really small crash, but you never know

Marine Sanders
Major 1st Division U.S.M.C.

You cannot exaggerate about the Marines. They are convinced to the point of arrogance, that they are the most ferocious fighters on earth- and the amusing thing about it is that they are.

Did anyone ever stop to think that because she was at the top of her Helm, Navigation, and Command classes on Luna that she MIGHT be able to handle flying a Pelican alone and not with a co-pilot. It wouldnt have made a difference anyways.... It was mostly for dramatic affect. So, in the end, Miranda died just trying to buy the Chief and the Arbiter some time. Thats pretty much how the cookie had crumbled by that point.

I think she was hoping Chief would get there and she would arrive at the same time. That's why she asked him how close he was.

The real question is, why not use the chin gun?

There wasn't any 70mm chin gun when you see the cutscene. In "The Flood" it was said the Pelicans had them but with minimal to no ammo, yet why were they not present in the game? Chin Guns weren't thought of until after Halo 3.

That is not the point, the point is earlier in the level she had a co-pilot. It's not like she told him to get off. He would never have a chance to get out, something is fishy, either that or Bungie was lazy and simply forgot.

The only reason she charged in there alone was for drama. Thats the only somewhat reasonable excuse. Bungie planned for her to die so they had her do something stupid to allow it to happen. Same with Kats death.

If Miranda wanted to rescue Johnson or stop Truth from firing the rings she could've easily picked up a few squads of marines before crashing into the building.

Miranda's Death > Kat's Death

Hmm... well Halo games havent been known for making much sense. There are many head-scratching moments throughout the games that are that way for the sake of adding drama.

For instance;
In Halo 2 on Delta Halo why didnt the MC just ride a Pelican rather than laboriously driving, riding and walking to find Regret? A Pelican routinely dropped off weapons for him, so why didn't he just jump on board?

No-one really liked her that much.

Oh man, I completely forgot about that... That's an incredible head scratcher considering that A) The building in the center of the lake was already identified as building of interest the moment Johnson dropped the hog and B) There were no AA defenses what so ever over the course of that entire mission to deter such a move.

The whole "gather intel on the surrounding area first" can somewhat make up for the first Delta Halo level barely, but there was just no plot excuse for the following level that dealt with actually reaching and killing Regret.

Second Account

Here's a better question: Why did Chief have to walk the whole way when smashing Pelicans into the window works equally well?

Why was Miranda alone? You might find the answer in Halo 2 when Srg. Johnson saves her from fallig into a bottombless pit and he tells her: ''You know? Your father NEVER ASKED ME FOR HELP eather!''

This is just my theory. She proves to be stuborn and fearless.

How can't you understand? She had to look badass and se.xy

Racism isn't wrong if it's funny.

Well, I don't know if you noticed the massive battle before you enter the citadel control room, but, most everybody died. Aside from that fact, they were waiting for back up from the Human and Covenant cruisers which had recently been bombarded by the sudden introduction of the Flood.

Everybody was pretty much tied up and Master Chief, the Arbiter, and Miranda Keyes were all racing and blasting past massive covenant deployments in order to stop Truth, so most of the Marines/Elites would have been busy trying to subdue the enemy forces from ruining their plan.

So it all makes sense, you just gotta really be paying attention to what was happening in previous levels.

P.S. You know who's fault it really was, that little douche bag Guilty Spark, who was hiding and hopping that Truth would activate the Array. Little bastard!

This.

Also, thanks for pointing that out about 343! it does add some foreshadowing to the end of the game.

Sparks didn't secretly want Truth to fire the Array. He didn't even want Truth screwing around with the Ark's systems. Did you pay attention to what was happening in previous levels? The Flood are on the Ark. Firing the installations in the galaxy would do NOTHING when the Flood is out of range of them. All he wanted was access to his precious new installation.
