No company that uses terms like, head-to-head, man-on-man, action-sack, and mancannon is homophobic.
I supposed that teabagging is.... what, a representation of a new form of colonoscopy?

I was just looking around the Flood and I noticed that at least every other post had a misspelled word in it. I'm wondering what you guys think about this.

You people have just sent my sides into orbit. A bunch of MLG try hards sucking the dick of some supposed pro half the thread hasn't even heard of. Classic.

It's annoying, but if we did that then we would lose too many people out of the community.

With a mix of members, you get a mix of cultures. People come here becuase they're not criticized for the things they do (usually). Why would anyone want to take a spelling test in order to be eligable for a Bungie.net account?

Even if there was a spelling test, whats stopping someone from spellchecking there answer on Microsoft Word?

Sad, but true.

It is the soldier, not the reporter, who has given us freedom of the press. It is the soldier, not the poet, who has given us freedom of speech. It is the soldier, not the campus organizer, who has given us the freedom to demonstrate. It is the soldier, not the lawyer, who has given us the right to a fair trial. And it is the soldier who salutes the flag, who serves the flag, whose coffin is draped in the flag that allows the protester to burn the flag.Father Dennis Edward O'Brien, USMC

I am a bad speller and a slow typer. If I had to take that test I would fail. It would get a bunch of those ides off bungie, but I am not a bad guy and I would be one of those that wouldnt get to be on.

I've been to message board forums where it is strictly against the rules to post with incorrect grammar, punctuation, and spelling. As soon as you misspelled something you got a warning. If you did it a second time, you were permanently banned. I had almost no problem with those rules, but needless to say, others did. I stopped going to that forum very quickly because the rules just got in the way of the actual discussion. It was just too inconvinient to post on the forums.

I've also been to forums where people have absolutely no regard for the content of their posts. Everyone knows that all those mistakes makes it difficult to understand. I'm sure we've all been to sites like this - it doesn't make your brain feel good.

The point is that there needs to a balance. In the rules in the Underground, spelling is mentioned, and I've seen threads locked for spelling errors. (usually because it borders on spam)

I think that the system we have now is fine, but I would want a tiny bit more enforcement against bad spelling.

That might not work. They might show a picture of an ape, and the member might type in "Guerilla" or "Monkey" or "Chimpanzee".

My god, that made me laugh out loud for the first time in a long time.

But I digress, a spelling test would cut down the membership to this site by 4/5, when all you really need to do to have proper grammar and spelling these days is run your post through either Word or a program similar to (my personal choice:) IE spell.

I'd be more for a common sense test, myself. With questions such as: "What does Carbon Monoxide smell like?" and "What year did Microsoft Owner Bill Gates die?". Alas, I have no influence on Bungie policy so such a test is not very likely, however much I'd like one.

Of course there would be problems with it, but if it was made, it would be a multiple choice test. I don't actually think that a test is a good idea because we would lose a lot of good members. I'm just saying that people should take 10 seconds to double check their posts so we can all understand them.

Written spelling tests usually follow the format of "The sentence below contains several spelling errors. Please re-type the sentence with the errors corrected."

Then again, since I have an error-correcting modem, the spelling errors wouldn't be displayed on my computer. ;)
