Of course there would be problems with it, but if it was made, it would be a multiple choice test.[/quote]

ok thats how it would work.....

how do you spell bungie?

a. bungie
b. bunjy
c. spelyng
d. banana

i would persoanlly pick banana because i like that word.

Which word is spelled wrong?
1. Halo
2. Car
3. Dog
4. Spel
By the way, why is everyone attacking me?

Eh, I don't think we're attacking you. It's just that some of us don't agree with your idea.

If you dont agree with some one, why respond? Sometimes it just makes it worse. But thats just sometimes.

Seriously though, if this was implemented the forums would shrivel up and die like a snail that fell into a box of salt.

no. even if they past the spelling test, which would probably be just basic words, users would still make spelling errors and put things like "lol" or "ROFLMFAO". there would be no point to it.

ok ok that wont work because
some peoples brain thinks at about 1000 mph
their processors only compute 600 mph
and i can only type 300 words per hour
so you do the math and tell me the errors in that

probably spelled ridilin wrong but don't care best guess
solution for this is ridilin or just guess what they are saying
and the most common misspelled word is THE usually spelled TEH
look at NOGE post he spelled PAST correct but it is used wrong
it should be PASSED

There is a reason I am user ID 1 and my account creation date is before this site came online.

Now if this idea doesn't just stand out as discrimination!! Wow, who do you think you are to come in here and criticize other people for not being able to spell with 100% accuracy. Ever stop to think that maybe, just maybe not everyone that posts on B.net speaks English as a first language?? I mean, I have seen posts on here from international people, and they appologize left and right about their bad grammar or spelling. Your suggestion smacks of an elite attitude, that people that post on these forums should be a certain way. I agree, that proper spelling and grammar makes reading posts easier, but to say that everyone should conform to your idea of what it should be is rather narrow-minded.

In most other forums, I would agree with you. The thing is, this is The Septagon. People bring up ideas that they think would help the community in this forum, and the other members of the community must stress their opinions on the subject so the website they visit doesn't get a feature the majority don't care for.

Anyway, I don't think a "spelling test" is that great of an idea, since English isn't the first language for everybody on this site. What I would prefer is and automatic spell check as soon as you press submit. It goes through the spell check and allows the member to ignore certain spelling mistakes if they choose to do so (if they are for some odd reason typing in "1337", they can choose to ignore all that crap). You would figure most members would be OK with a program checking his spelling and changing misspelled words, even if it adds another 5 seconds to the posting experience.

Edit: There should also be a grammar checker, since typing on 3 hours of sleep apparently doesn't agree with my grammar.

its not that hard to guess what people are saying i mean you used your brain to spell everything correctly so use it to guess what they typed Just think of it as a new brain teaser every time you get on
and if we did do alot of people wouldn't be on here like 98% of them trust me i look at these things a lot at night from 8 pm to 8 am and i see all kinds of stuff messed up my job requires me to work about 10 minutes an hour the rest of the time is dead time

It's annoying, but if we did that then we would lose too many people out of the community.

There would be some problems with a spelling test that's not oral. Anyway, I think an IQ test would be more effective.
