approx. 7.5 million Type 2 Sentinels
1 installation monitor
3,000 crew
Description:
One of the many thousands of unsuccessful plans tried against the Flood, the Weaponships were built approximately 150 years before the activation of the Halo Arrays. They were intended as a final option before full-scale use of the Halos was necessary.
Designed as a more precise alternative to the galaxy-wide cleansing of the Halos, the Weaponships were equipped with a smaller, less powerful version of the main weapon on Halo. Capable of wiping out all sentient life in a solar system, they can also employ an advanced focusing system and limit the effect to a single planet.
Aside from the Array the ship's only defence is a powerful energy shield. However the Weaponship incorporated production and maintenance facilities for a massive swarm of Type 2 Sentinels, like those employed on the Shield Worlds.
The Sentinels are capable of acting alone or in groups of ever increasing size. They are capable of projecting energy fields to manipulate matter or to serve as a defensive shield, and possess a black-body radiation weapon capable of generating temperatures in excess of 15,000k.
In this fashion the Sentinels serve a function not unlike the fighters and bombers carried by Human carriers, although they are much more flexible.
Ultimately there were never enough Weaponships to stem the never-ending tide of the Flood. When Mendicant Bias went rampant the Forerunner leadership on the Ark sent out a message, recalling the Weaponships back to the Ark from their positions far outside the Maginot Sphere.
The Savior was unable to reach the Ark before the Arrays were activated. Knowing they were doomed, her commanders concealed her in an immense ice-cloud, to remain hidden until such a time that the surviving Forerunners could come and retrieve her...

Description:
The Aeolus is a relic of a bygone time, built in 2511, long before the Covenant appeared and in the early stages of the Insurrection. She was created in a time when combat starships were a luxury that only the UNSC could afford, instead of a necessity for Human survival.
As of 2548, the Aeolus was 37 years old, and one of the 10 oldest ships still in active service. She's also the only ship of her class still in active duty, with her two surviving sisters being used as training ships at the Luna OCS.
Launched on the 22nd of June, she completed her shakedown cruise and was sent out to join a fleet flying the flag in the outer colonies. When the Insurrection flared up into full-scale rebellion the Aeolus was on the front lines.
She took part in OPERATION: TREBUCHET, a massive military op in the Epsilon Eridani system that, combined with an assault on the nearby planet of Eridanus II, served to utterly destroy the majority of the Insurrection's military assets. from then on the Insurrection focused it's efforts on an escalating campaign of terror.
The Covenant attack on Harvest in 2525 found the Aeolus on patrol out in the outer colonies. Like most ships on the frontier, she was immediately ordered to Harvest. What followed was 6 frantic months of fighting retreat in the face of the Covenant's superior technology.
She was later assigned to the fleet of the renowned Admiral Preston Cole in his epic campaign to retake the outer colonies from the Covenant. She survived 6 engagements with the enemy, suffering heavy damage and casualties.
by 2532 the Aeolus was getting old, and she was beginning to show it. Her reactors were starting to wear out, her armour plating wasn't sufficient for engaging the Covenant, she lacked capacity in her Archer missile system, and a wide variety of problems that came from being old and designed for a much different enemy.
Prior to the outbreak of the Covenant war the Aeolus would likely have been scrapped instead of upgraded, it being deemed more cost effective to part her off and build a newer, more modern replacement. But the UNSC needed every ship it could get now, and a refit would take less time then building a new ship, as well as consuming less resources.
By the time she docked with the orbital yards over Reach for her refit it was estimated that nearly 53% of her overall mass was composed of replacement parts and repairs. She had lost over 600 crewmen during her tour in the outer colonies. she had 5 kills to her name and an additional 3 assists.
Her refit took 6 long months, and when finished she was promptly sent back out to the front lines, where she was peppered with laser fire and clipped by an energy projector, requiring her to return for major repairs.
It was during this repair period she was noticed by an ONI operative passing through the repair station between ops. He realized that sending the Aeolus back out to fight the Covenant would at best result in her getting severely damaged, at worst destroyed. The Olympus class frigates had always been fast, and their small size and agility made them both stealthy and well adapted to operating in an atmosphere.
Consequently the Aeolus was transferred to ONI section 3's command to be re purposed for the stealth insertion of spec ops teams. A stealth coating was applied to her hull, her electronics were shielded and she was outfitted with an advanced passive jamming system. Holes were also pierced in her hull to allow ODST-style drop pods to be launched from her hull.
