I read through that thread and I have to echo the sentiments of some of the other posters.
While it's great that you're showing an interest in Halo and the world of 3D modeling, I still maintain that you've bitten off more than you, or anybody else in this community, can chew.
After looking over the posted pictures (including the weapons), I implore you to start off with some tutorials on 3DS Max and work your way up.
Even if you were a 3D modeling deity, I'd still be giving you the same advice. Aside from the lack of modeling experience, your group (I checked the forums out) seems to lack any kind of structure. There doesn't appear to be any kind of grand plan but rather a chaotic free-for-all where everybody is doing their own thing in the hope that they'll be able to salvage a playable level from the random odds and ends. There are even a number of other projects going on at the same time.
Anyway, my point is that a project like this requires strong leadership, communication and planning skills. Technical skills are only part of the battle. With a project like this, I'd expect you to have a pretty beefy documentation folder detailing everything that's going to be needed; in-depth level design, concept art, plot, goals - you get the picture. All I've seen is 4 or 5 lines on the first mission.
I encourage you to keep going and improving your skills but please do yourself a favour and set more realistic, attainable goals. As it stands, you're taking the hard road to disappointment.
