Subject: so what do you think happend to the Spirit of Fire?

Forge Master, Team player, Stratagizer, Role Player.

Last I checked there are still 3 living spartan IIs on board. Perhaps cheif runs into it 20-50 years?

Why didn't they just slipspace back to Reach or Earth? Or any human held planet for that matter.

Ugh, why did they make winning so painful?!

Many tried, but just can’t beat me
They all say it’s hard but to me it’s rather easy
To do what I do, better then the rest
It takes four words, I Am THE BEST!

Have you even played the game?

[quote] Why didn't they just slipspace back to Reach or Earth? Or any human held planet for that matter. [quote]

because they used the slipspace drive to blow up the shield world. there probobly travelling at close to light speed to get back to earth and will probobly show up there in a couple of centuries due to relativity.

  • 03.30.2011 6:30 AM PDT

When they decided to blow up the forerunner world they used their Shaw-Fujikawa Translight drive to make a slipspace matrix in the core of the planet to save humanity. No slipspace jumps for Fire but Fire was able to plot a course for Earth but at normal cruise speed. All crew were put into cryo for the trip. All of this was around the time of Harvest.
They held info about the Flood, Forerunners, and the Covenant. All of this was before Autumn crash landed on the first Halo.

black team is going to bump into them once they get the Fdrive thing working and land on another Halo and then you will have 7 spartans fighting the flood or something

I don't think any of that info would have been useful even if they still had the slipspace drive. They didn't get anything new about the covenant. The Foreruner stuff would have been good but not the flood. I haven't played it in years but I don't think the SoF crew even knew their name. As far as they knew it was just some freaky creatures that turns people into space zombies native to that planet. The one they blew up. They didn't get a full run down of what the flood were like the Chief did.

Anyway I think its very,VERY unlikly that the SoF would get back to UNSC space before the ship falls apart.

RED BRICK STUDIOS!

The Spirit of Fire was pretty heavily damaged during the engagements at the Shield World. It probably was falling apart on the way home.

Serina would eventually go rampant, causing untold amounts of problems.

Eventually, you wouldn't be able to keep anyone out of cryosleep. The food for the super essential personnel kept awake would run out eventually. Then nobody would be left to steer.

I find it very unlikely they would ever make it back.

A: Spirit of fire wasn't that badly damaged at the shield world. They were already repairing things after the world exploded.
B: AI's can delay rampancy by doing outbursts of emotion, or simply by keeping company. (halopedia info)
C: You can take shifts in cryo sleep. Once things were fixed and running smoothly, EVERYBODY could go into the sleep. Serina could fly the ship just fine, and wake people as they are needed.

Edit: As for falling apart... why would it? waking the crew for occasional fix ups and all, I don't see that happening.

They end up on the Legendary Planet with the Chief. At least I hope so.

I hope that 343 decides to continue their story arc, whether it be in a game or a book or a comic or somthing.

  • 03.30.2011 10:10 AM PDT

Do you know what kind of hat I'm wearing?

A party hat; you don't get one. An honor will this party be, a party in your honor, for your honor. Some of Tfear's personal guards are going to be there. You'll be introduced shortly.

Prepare to die.

I can imagine there was still a flood spore left on the ship.
So I hope 343 makes a survival horror shooter on the spirit of fire.

And even if they are rampant I think it said, or was implied, in the Cole Protocol that if they're really focused on one thing they can kind of keep themselves in check, even if they are rampant. Like I think Juliana was rampant right? But she didn't really show much of the signs due to her devotion to protecting the Rubble.

That's what happens in my Halo fanfic XD Ok, well it's not really a Halo fanfic perse, but it involves Halo heavily in the story.

Yeah, Juliana basically told grey team she was either past, or long past the 7 year lifespan of the Smart AI's at the time. but she wasn't crazy/wanting to kill everything.

Certain rampant AI's do that, but not all. Loki and whats-his-name on Harvest delayed rampancy by taking turns operating stuff.

A: Repairing the damage done when they grazed the covenant ship was probably the worst but considering they're working with very limited resources and equipment could make it a very serious problem.

B: I don't think Serina going rampant is too much of a problem. She definitly has company. I remember reading something that said she often gossiped with crewmembers.

C: Due to normal wear and tear the ships systems will start to break down and eventually they're going to run out of the parts to fix them. In order to keep the ship running smoothly there would need to be a skeleton crew to constantly moniter systems and make repairs before they failed completely, but over time supplies would run low forcing them to keep fewer people awake for shorter periods of time making it more likely critical systems could fail.

RED BRICK STUDIOS!

Well, food supplies would still be an issue.
And if everyone had to go into cryo because of a food shortage, well there goes the company.

  • 03.30.2011 11:13 AM PDT

They can find a planet and harvest food/resources from it. And the fact the Spirit of Fire was a retrofit colony ship. It probably had a fair amount of supplies on board. They could also re-purpose a cargo bay into a hydroponics lab to grow food.

Those are just things I thought of that another stranded Sci-fi ship did. Voyager in star trek.

RED BRICK STUDIOS!

Finding an uninhabited planet with food resources might be a little difficult.
As for growing food on the ship, if enough of the former colony ship tech was still around I'm sure that could be a real possibility.

Does everyone remember how in Mona Lisa it seemed that ONI had knowledge of the Flood before the Chief got back to Earth?

I am guessing that the SoF gets found by the UNSC and is able to give ONI the intel.

That is where we got the idea from.

  • 03.30.2011 11:54 AM PDT

Didn't Cortana send a message to Earth on the way back? Which contained the flood information and all?

  • 03.30.2011 12:47 PM PDT

The spirit was left drifting in space for a reason, just like the chief. And we know hes coming back.

  • 03.30.2011 5:21 PM PDT

SoF makes it back to UNSC space. ONI covers up the Flood, as they do. Nobody ever knows (save ONI/HighCom Brass). Hence why the Mona Lisa was at Inst. 04 before the Chief's report was on Earth and why a rescue team was sent before his arrival.

The Mona Lisa was destroyed in October, Master Chief was back at Earth prior to that as he started heading back with the Covenant slipspace drive September 13th.
