I'd have to say there hasn't be a single short story in Evolutions that I didn't like, they're all totally awesome.
My favorites though, I think, would have to be Midnight in the Heart of Midlothian. Baird was just awesome and totally badass. I think it's funny how he looked kind of like a Brute in the motion comic XD But yeah, Midlothian was a very good story.
Mona Lisa. After reading this story I just had one thing to say really, God damned ONI and their blasted spooks! I'm pretty certain now that nothing good can come from ONI's methods. They may lead to good things, like Spartan Program, but ONI itself are a collection of royal bastards. Very few of them are likable. Who do you think won the fight for the last pod, "Henry" or Lopez?
Dirt is another of my favorites, and over all well written story. I liked how the Rookie made an appearance in it. Was Gage one of the recruits trained by Johnson in Hervest's militia? Or was the CMA something totally different? I'm not a homophobe or anything like that, but I'm glad that Felicia being -blam!- was only made reference to in passing mention, any story with sub arcs about -blam!- romance or stuff like is too distracting I feel. I have nothing against -blam!- people, but I do not want to read about -blam!- romance, a passing mention I don't care, nothing wrong wit that, so yeah, I'm glad Dirt didn't really go anywhere with it. All in all, a good story about Gage learning to feel human again and a great story about human nature.
I also really liked Blunt Instruments, that was another really good one. I liked the interactions between Black Team and the way their personalities played off each other.
My least favorite story was probably Palace Hotel, it wasn't really badly written or anything, it just felt really odd because it didn't really have too much of a plot. And I didn't get why the writer couldn't just spell things normally, I didn't mind the military jargon, though I was confused about what he meant when he talked about Covenant stuff that way, why couldn't he just spell normally? Like instead of el tee why couldn't he just have characters refer to things like a normal person? No one, especially in writing talks about abbreviations or alpha-numerical designators like this el ay vee, they would write LAV. I liked the bit with Parisa, that was heartwarming and a bit of tearjerker to me.
So yeah, those are my opinions on some of the stories, that's as far as I've gotten, haven't finished the book yet, but I'm close.
