It can be done.
Simply connect your Xbox directly to the WiFi enabled computer with a cable.
HOWEVER, you MUST be sure you have a crossover cable rather than your regular ethernet cable to directly connect two machines. A crossover cable is very similar to a regular ethernet cable but it has its inner wires reversed. If you don't know how to change your own cord to a crossover, head over to radioshack or some place like that and ask them for one. To help illustrate this setup, heres a texty picture:

Also, do the following.... click Start>Connect To>Wireless Network Connection>Properties>Advanced>Then make sure the "Allow other network users to connect through this computers connection" is checked.
If you do all of the above and it doesn't work, chances are you have a router issue and you need to head over to http://www.XBconnect.com to figure out what settings need to be changed. Let me know if you have any problems.
