Hey guys. Here is the first Chapter of a short story I am writing. I hope you enjoy it. Just to give you some background information, the two main characters are Vladimir and Eowyn. They were both kids on the planet of Arcadia, and were the best of friends. After the Covenant attacked Arcadia, they barely made it off alive. After being selected to be apart of the S-III Program, fate put them together. They fought through the Human-Covenant war for 10 years, and now they find themselves back on Arcadia, defending it against the Covenant...
Chapter 1:
Vladimir laid on his back, and felt the grass beneath him. He looked up at the sky and admired how the clouds gracefully glided across the sky, drifting over the sun, and dimming the intensity of the light. The sky seemed a little more blue now, and Vlad watched birds fly around, dancing to their own songs. He sat up, and looked around at the field he lay in. The field seemed to never end; rolling hills of natural beauty as far as the eye could see. The flowers poked their heads above the tall grass, and the slight breeze have the grass a water-like appearance. Vlad let his mind wander a bit, as he thought about Eowyn; she would love it here. As thoughts of Eowyn roamed freely around Vlad's mind, he closed his eyes, as he could almost hear her soft voice. "Get up, Vlad." a voice whispered in his ear. Vlad opened his eyes, and slowly rose to his feet, as the voice repeated itself, only more vividly. He clearly recognized the voice as Eowyn's, and looked around for her. "Come on, get up!" He began to frantically look around the field, occasionally taking a step or two in a random direction. "Damnit, Vlad! Get up!!" He began to run, confused as where to go, but he ran, frequently stopping to change directions. Vlad slowly came to a stop, and stared over the horizon. His vision began to blur as he felt sick; he collapsed to his knees from nausea. Vlad heard Eowyn's voice calling his name again, and he could hear tears in her voice. Vlad tried to stand up again, but a sudden weight fell upon his legs. As Eowyn's voice drifted away along with his vision, Vlad felt the ground smack his face, as everything went black.

Pain shot through Vlad's veins, as he opened his eyes. His vision was still hazy, but he slowly came to. His armor felt heavy, and he could barely move, but he was moving; hands were pulling him across the ground. He started to regain feeling within his fingers and toes, as the tingling sensation over his body faded, as he forced himself over onto his back. He looked up, and saw another Spartan kneeling over him. The armor was dark green; something was familiar about the armor that looked down upon him. This Spartan removed it's helmet, revealing itself to be Eowyn. "Vlad!!" She burst into tears. "Vlad! I thought I had lost you!" Vlad's head was pounding in sync with his heart, which still raced as adrenaline still flowed through his blood. "What happened?" Eowyn looked out the gaping hole in the building they took shelter in. "Plasma Bombardment." She paused. "The Covenant pulled back, so the rest of Team Alpha took the opportunity to try and set up a better defense, and figure out what to do. Then you went charging in after them. That's when the bombs hit. They're back for more, too.." There was a slight laugh in her voice. "You never can let the fight rest, huh?" Vlad let out a sharp sigh, as pain still rushed through his body. He sat up, and tried to recollect himself; he couldn't remember a thing. Eowyn shot a glance back outside before leaning in towards Vlad, and pulled his helmet off. She tossed it aside, and threw her arms around his neck, and kissed him. The plasma and bullets that filled the air outside seemed to stop, and the world slowed down for just a moment; just long enough for Vlad and Eowyn to escape this reality to another world, a world where they once lived. Even the augmentations of the S-III Program, on top of the brutal training the Special Ops Spartans, such as Vlad and Eowyn received, couldn't destroy the age old relationship that they shared. 'The Covenant can destroy our worlds and lives, but they can't destroy our love' they used to say.
Vlad and Eowyn stepped out of the building, and sprinted to the other side of the street where some Marines where pinned down. Vlad took a quick look around. They were at a corner, with a bridge that extended over the highway just north of their position. "What's the situation?" Vlad yelled over exploding plasma. "We're pinned down, sir! Trying to pull back to a more defensible position, but those aliens are breathing down our necks at this point! We're not going anywhere without getting shot!" Vlad shot a look around the corner at the Covenant. Eowyn stared at the rooftops. Vlad counted 3 Wraiths across the highway, with a handful of Jackals moving their way up the street towards them. With shields in hand, they were protecting Grunts, who were carrying plasma batteries, one of which carried and portable plasma turret. "What happened to the rest of Alpha?" Vlad asked, confused as to where they were. The Marine look around before answering. "Spread out, I guess, sir. Not to sure what happened after that plasma bombardment." Eowyn, without saying a word, started climbing up the side of the bridge supports to the bridge overhead. "Where are you going?" Vlad yelled surprised. "Find Alpha! We need to regroup!" Vlad looked back around the corner to check on the Covenant, who were almost upon them. "Roger.. This place is going to be over run. Suggest we set up a rendezvous point." Eowyn stopped climbing and looked to the south. "How about that plaza?" Vlad gave her a thumbs up sign, and turned to the Marines. "Grab your stuff, and keep your head low." Vlad rounded the corner, and rolled a grenade across the ground, and dove to the side. The surprise caught the Jackals off guard, and the explosion rung through the air. "Go!" The marines rounded the corner, and ran south towards the rendezvous point. With his Shotgun raised, Vlad peppered the surviving Jackals and grunts with pellets while slowly taking steps backwards. 'Come on, you..' Vlad thought to himself, as his last shotgun shell brought the last Jackal to it's knees. Vlad ripped his Magnum from it's holster on his hip, and put a shot into the plasma batteries the grunts were carrying. With a bright blue explosion, the small group of Covenant disappeared. Vlad started reloading his shotgun as the Wraiths put a couple of shots into the air. He turned and sprinted away from this new threat. Vlad shot a glance over his shoulder without slowing from his sprint. The Wraiths were now giving chase. 'Crap..'
