HOW ABOUT THIS:
Emile and 6 hide behind rocks when they see scarab coming, scarab doesn't attack, all 3 make it to the ship breaking yard alive and the rest is said by OP.

Scarab had spotted them in the cutscene. Hiding would do nothing.

They even said he didn't have the firepower. If he had just fired on the Scarab instead of ramming it, it would have ignored him, turned 6 and Emile into ashes and then killed him.

The scarab is an 80 ton war machine. If carter had just kept shooting it then the scarab would still just ignore him... Notice when carter shoots the scarab that the scarab is still facing Emile & 6.
The scarab has to weigh much more than 80 tons. Some German tanks in WWII weighed close to 80 tones and the scarab dwarfs them. I would say it is in the range of 180-200 tons if not more.

RED BRICK STUDIOS!

The Scarab shrugged off Carter's rounds.
It was preparing to fire on Emile and Six.

And be smack in the open for the Scarab's main beam to roast them.

I am the Master of Masters.
My alter ego
Official Mongoose Splatter count as of 11/05/09 - 128

Group - ODST Content Alliance V2 We were destroyed by Group Conquerer, but we will rebuild.

Love Star Wars and Sci fi? join KOTOR

Keep in mind that Carter had already been hit at that point. (remember the blood on the windowshield and him holding his stomach?) He was probably on the verge of death as it was, so he basically just went out with a bang.

armor lock is only gameplay. in the campgaine halo3 and reach they lock there armor but that that doesnt give them a super sheild for 15 seconds, just makes them survive falls and crashes.

The armor lock that Chief used and that Six and Jorge used to survive the crash is completely different, I don't think it even has a proper name. Armor Lock, as in the Armor Ability, produces and EMP field, and consequently happens to lock the user in place. But AL and a Spartan restricting their movement are completely different things. And AL completely exists in canon as it does in gameplay, take your trolling elsewhere.

This man, this man right here put it so eloquently that I actually cancelled my own 2000+ word long post.
/slow clap for respect

:)
The person who said participating is important, not winning, obviously never won anything.

Carter was pretty much crippled by the start of the mission. Banshee fire must have hit him while he risked his life to pilot the vehicle.

Auntie Dot was concerned on his vitals. The Banshee´s fire must have melted through the back of the pilots seat and melted the armor, clipping his spine and making him unable to abandon the Pelican before it crashed into the Scarab.

Anyways, I doubt Carter would have survived a fall like that in his current state. And if not, he would have died later on. He would need a combat surgeon, and he did not have the luxury of time to get that type of medical attention pretty much only present on capital warships or combat hospitals, not from regular foot soldiers.

Carter was a goner.

They say that an eye for an eye makes the whole world blind. Good thing justice is blind.

Carter was already dead by the time of that cutscene. Read Ghosts of Onyx; the Spartan IIIs have an augmentation that the Spartan IIs don't, which (bear with me here, I don't remember the exact science behind it) basically awakens some sort of animalistic instinct when critically wounded. It has to do with their brains, I remember, but it allows them to continue operations when injured in ways that would completely incapacitate a normal human or even a Spartan II. Carter was running on his last reserves. Had he not gone boom ("when in doubt, Carter out"), he would've died soon after.

I remeber it being some kind of adrenaline type chemical.
Good observation.

Only the Spartan IIIs of Gamma Company were given the "animal-like instincts drug," and Carter was from the Alpha Company. So he just endured the pain like a bad-ass
