Something smells fishy...

So, my router is a WRT160Nv2, and my modem is a Vonage VDV21-VD. Now I set up a Static IP and forwarded the ports to that IP just fine, yet it didn't work. So I figured I needed to forward my modem as well, as some do come with security measures I hear. So I was doing that, and under the space where you input the IP you wish to forward it to, it looked like this:

192.168.15.__

It's my understanding that I'm supposed to put my router's IP there, 192.168.1.1, but it won't let me because there's a 15 instead of a 1. Are they just not compatible, or am I doing this wrong?

If you're connecting to the internet through your router then I think you only need to forward ports for your router and not your modem.

Assuming that you're forwarding ports for Halo: Combat Evolved PC on your network I suggest you take a look at these helpful guides I found at PortForward.com:
1) http://portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/Linksy s/WRT160Nv2/Halo.htm

2) http://portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/Linksy s/WRT160Nv2/Halo.htm

I personally find the guides at PorForward.com really helpful that's why I'm suggesting them:)

Been over those guides, many times :'(

I have a linksys wireless router also and I did not create a static IP address to forward ports for Halo. Instead I used my default gateway IP address which worked for me.

So forward the ports for Halo on your network using your default gateway IP address which is likely what you posted before: 192.168.1.1

If you're unsure what your default gateway IP address is you can identify it by following these steps:
1) Open a command prompt as administrator.
2) Type "ipconfig" (without the quotes) and press enter.
3) Under Wireless LAN adapter Wireless Network Connection you'll see the default gateway listed.

Basically what I did to forward ports for Halo on my network:
Note: Don't create and use a static IP address. Use your default gateway IP address.
1) Open the Linksys control panel.
2) Go to the Applications and Gaming menu.
3) Choose the Single Port Forwarding or Port Range Forwarding sub-menu. I don't have my Linksys router where I am currently located so I can't check to see whether or not it matters if you choose Single Port Forwarding or Port Range Forwarding or both.
4) Create an Application Name for three of the blank Application Name boxes.
5) Enter the correct TCP and UDP ports for Halo under External Port and Internal Port.
6) I believe, under Protocol, you can only choose Both. So choose Both.
7) Under To IP Address enter a 1.
8) Put a check in the box under Enabled.

That should hopefully work for you:)

You should be able to use your default gateway IP address. But seeing that you can't use it I'm not sure what the problem could be.

Sorry:)
