FALSE. that is booting somebody when standbying (only can be done when your host) Booting is sending so much data to somebodys internet it shuts down thus disconnecting them from xbl.

U Mirin?

Why don't you do any work on your chest or legs or something? You look like a cartoon character.

Host booting = the connection host of a game uses some program on their computer (like a firewall or zonealarm or whatever) to block the IP of a person on the other team. If you are host, and you block the IP of someone on the other team, that means you are not allowing someone to connect to you, so they automatically disconnect from the game since you are the host. Hence the term "HOSTbooting".

DoS = Denial of Service. This is what happens when people are cheating more often than not. You don't have to be host to do this, all you need is to find the IP of your victim and then IP flood it and overload it until they can't connect to the internet, and therefore disconnect from the game.

/thread

Anyone who thinks "hostbooting" is IP flooding is retarded.

  • 03.31.2011 5:11 PM PDT

everyone calls a dos attack host booting soo there all retards lol

Lol false.
Lol no.

Way to look like a fool!

Also, ShL, it's DDoS, not DoS.

It's only DDoS if from multiple bot's or, for the skids, multi shells.

linky

If it's against a single person, or one at a time, like it usually happens in Halo, it's "DoS". DDoS = Distributed Denial of Service.

Mmmhmm.. And it's also a DDoS from a server, because each private shell is a different server, aka an infected PC.

I assume when you say "multi-shells", you mean opening multiple public shells?

ShL, a DDoS is an attack from multiple bots/infected PCs. A DoS is from a single IP. Using a botnet is a DDoS Attack, using a shell booter (aka Vandalism, wormf00d, etc) is a DDoS Attack, using a public shell is a DDoS attack.

They're all using multiple systems to attack the one IP, hence a distributed attack.

Host booting is when you boot the host by flooding their IP, NOT when the host boots you.

As far as I am aware there is no common term for fire-walling someone out of the game. It is extremely rare. Most people will just standby you because it's harder to get banned that way.

I am aware you're probably trolling, but I'll explain the difference to anyone (the OP) that doesn't know that.

HOST booting: Using a firewall to block an IP from connecting to you, hence forcing you out of the game. Traffic is routed through the booters PC using software that re-directs traffic to go through the PC while going back and forth from the router to the Xbox.

DDoS/IP Flooding: Where a cheater, doesn't have to be the host, sends an attack from external sources (botnets/shell booters), to attack an IP of someone in the game. If it is strong enough, it will force the victim offline completely (the victim's internet will literally be overloaded with TCP/UDP packets).

Host Booting is different from IP Flooding.

Not have a remote clue to what you are talking about, yet still being determined to state it as fact is always fun.

No.

If you think that DDoS and DoS are the same thing, just different ways of saying it, you don't know what you're talking about.

DoS is from ONE system to ONE system. 1:1.

DDoS is from MULTIPLE systems to ONE system. It could literally be tens of thousands of systems attacking ONE IP. 2,000:1.
