Are they one and the same? The cage is big enough for GM. And note that this is a different gravemind than in the trilogy. OR IS IT! I believe they have the same memories because of the famous H2 quotes, i have listened through rock steel and time(ROUGH MEMORY) now we never learned what a precursor looks like, have we? Please answer this. Also, why i ask is because people used to think that a precursor was the prisoner, but what if they are all the same.

Apparently the precursor looked like a giant sea scorpion. As far as the relation between the precursor, and the gravemind(s) as of now it all comes down to theory.

One theory is that the prisoner becomes the gravemind, either through its own free will, or through infection. Some point out that the prisoner described in Cryptum looks nothing like the creature beneath the Library on installation 05. This could be the work of 100+ thousand years of infection and re-purposing of biomass.

On the relation between the gravemind from the Forerunner-Flood war and the gravemind from the trilory, there is evidence that it was held in a slipspace portal on installation 05 before the rings fired and was able to escape prior to 2552. This would explain the presence of the quarantine wall around the library as well as the gravemind quote from Halo 3, "I have consumed a galaxy of flesh and mind and bone."

Since when did physical appearance have any influence over mental intelligence?

I am rereading Cryptum and just had a thought - why assume that the prisoner is a Precursor? More likely the prisoner was something that the Precursor's locked up as being dangerous.

Wait until you finish, all will be answered.

Fine, that's a lie, but your question will be dealt with.

I am on my second read through. I was just bringing up the possibility that the prisoner was lying. Remember, everyone in jail is innocent. Why would a Precursor submit itself to an exile in which it had no control over it's release? And waiting for an unknown set of conditions upon which it would be released? An odd way to set up 'our answer is at hand'.

Something about the prologue is also bothering me as I read through again, but I just cannot put my finger on what it is yet.

Possibly

They said it might be a sibling to Humans and Forerunners. The prisoner itself claims the Forerunners wiped the Precursors out.

Something i can't believe,if this trully was a genocide then why did many Precursor structures are still around perfectly intact.

Good point, no one was around to corroborate the prisoner's story.

There are several strange things about the prologue. The mantle's statement seems contradictory. Bornstellar tells the story as if he is alive and how he seems to know little about the precursors despite the involvement of a precursor(?) in the story.

"Question. Which Spartan is best?"
"That's a ridiculous question."
"False. Master Chief."
"Well, that's debatable. There are basically two schools of thought."
"Spartans shoot Sangheili. Spartans. Sangheili.....Battle Star Galactica."

I've got money that Bornstellar ends up getting captured by the Gravemind and his story is being transferred to the Gravemind collective knowledge.

Or something crazy like that.

Impossible, why would gravemind tell the Forerunner trilogy story .

It's bornstellar, alive which is another evidence that the Forerunners aren't wiped out.

The Gravemind is telling it, Bornstellar is. He's in the process of telling the Gravemind, for some reason. Bornstellar is toast at the end of the trilogy.

Born basically became the Didact, in a sense Bornstellar no longer exists. While I can't say whether the Didact survived the firing of the Rings or not, I am pretty sure that the Flood did not get him.

Have you read Cryptum?

*SPOILERS BELOW READ AT OWN RISK*

Because at the end Born has essentially ceased to exist, he has become something of an amalgamation of Born and the Didact mentally, though mostly the Didact.

yes but to get past 1, world builders, you would have to be able to build. How can a precurser build a lego house with no proper hands!

When the Didact is talking with his 'sons', and Born walks in, one of the 'sons' mentions 'if what the Old Ones created is loose....'. This hints at the Prisoner being created by the Precursors.

Nothing definite, but as in all good fiction every question is answered with two more questions. :)

Just because we need hands to build things, doesn't mean an alien race does.

You need to open your tinny mind to the possibility that these Precursors might have had some form of telecanetic abilities that allowed them to build with their minds.
