This man, this man right here put it so eloquently that I actually cancelled my own 2000+ word long post.

The person who said participating is important, not winning, obviously never won anything.

More efficient recievers?

Possibility, but wouldint that type of energy sending be extremly crude?

I meant that it would require only a fraction of the size. It would be more efficient than what we have now.

"Find where the liar hides, so that I may place my boot between his gums!" - Rtas 'Vadum

Now I just cannot stop thinking about all that Microwave energy being transmitted through the atmosphere of Earth to power 300 SMAC's...

Be cookin'.

Well, the SMAC's are geostationary. Lasers would be the better option.

But directed energy in form of lasers... wouldint that be highly dangerous? It would be able to melt through armor even it it´s potent enough.

That's why that area would be a no-fly zone. It would be pretty much the same deal as the Orbital Elevators (That is a conjecture, but common sense says that it would be against the law to fly anything too close to a 600 km tall elevator)

Forget generators.

1. Spartan
2. Treadmill
3. ???
4. Profit

"I may not be perfect, but always been true."

I think this is how the SMAC generators look like.

With that said, perhaps they send the power to the stations via Wifi, 3G or Bluetooth perhaps?

Racism isn't wrong if it's funny.

I'd like to suggest that it probably runs on some sort of massive FUsion Coil.

No. You would want something dedicated and solid, again, going back to my idea of a large fusion coil.

I will try to give an example from basic high school / university physics. (No formulas, don't worry!).

-An electric current will generate a magnetic field depending on the current strength, and a magnetic field will induce a current in a wire depending on the field strength. Usually these are extremely small fields and currents because either too much energy is lost or the magnetic field becomes dangerous and hard to insulate against.
-Assuming in the future there is a way to 'aim' this magnetic field energy into some sort of beam, it may be possible to have wireless electricity in this fashion.
-You would also have to assume the cannon has some way of pinpointing the location of the mac gun, otherwise it would miss. (Duh). And the gun must be able to contain the field to just the mac gun batteries, otherwise it would be like throwing a box of knives into an mri machine as the whole station is hit by the field.

-Or you can ditch physics and assume it runs on power sent through slipspace :P

Just my idea, feel free to use it. :)

1) I'd keep them on the ground. Easier to defend, plus they have the very SMAC that they are powering protecting them, not just a sheet of flimsy armour.

2) We can "wirelessly transmit" power via lasers right now. It's not all surprising tha we have refined this technology and given it a place in the military.

I'm sure the stations could be mass produced just as the frigates, bases ect...
so indeed it is smarter to separate the generators to focus more on the generators rather then a easily replaceable SMAC station, and in battle they are in clusters
Just like how America beat the Germans with there mass produced tanks, and in vast numbers, rather then the Germans focusing more on producing there bulky "advanced" tanks though the Germans were in fewer

it will be done with microwave technology. like radios. send it in wave motion to the gun and then you get the electricity. there is an idea of doing this on earth where we capture solar energy on the moon which is more due to no atmosphere and send it down to earth. a lot of energy can be made.

I be gone into the depts of abyss. I'm leaving Bungie.net. Sorry.

You only should look at Nicholas Tesla's works and thories for this. If I recall, he invented 'PET' short for "Atmospheric Energy Transmision". It literally meant that his tesla coils could 'transmit' energy to other devices around the world.

However, Tesla himself was too advance for his age, his invention where too anbicious; He made the CELLPHONE possible!

Now, this explains everything, how the Covenants and Forerunners could create multi-floating devices. And how the need for cables was moot.

But as I recall, Tesla´s invention only works in atmosphere...

Space. The Final Frontier. These are the voyages of Murphy's Laws on the StarShip Enterprise

For the second problem, almost certainly wireless transmission. In TFor, I think, there's a reference to MJOLNIR being powered by wireless power sources. But I haven't read that section for ages. Therefore, I can't remember exactly what happened

That's the older models, like I through III.
