Subject: Legendary Run

l;abhrfiodj!!

I knew for sure that I have beaten every other halo game solo legendary because the games recorded it, but I am not sure I ever ran through halo 2 on legendary all the way. I got profiles for all the skulls so I have played every level on legendary. So I therefore am going on a......

halo 2 LEGENDARY RUN!!

So far beat ciro station and it didn't seem as difficult as I remember it. The whole Plasma pistol BR combo has kept me going. I am taking it slow and engaging everything from a distance. I find that plasma shot, duck behind cover, pop out, spray BR three times in general direction of plasma shot, return to cover is the way to go.... However the upcoming Jackal sniping is going to be a pain....

Wish me luck fellow halo players!

I shall keep this topic updated as I push my way through the game.

I love this kind of thread and yes, keep us informed. You must be pretty good, I have a dreadful time doing Cairo. I like the way you're playing by not bypassing the fights. Those Jackals, grrr.

Well I just reached sniper alley. I was wondering if I had accidentally set the difficulty to heroic and then I got shot in the foot and died over and over again. Yup it's set to legendary! Took a break for a beer I'll try again a bit later.

  • 04.01.2011 9:20 PM PDT

Lol, they can shoot you in a toenail from around a corner and kill you.

Oh man Just got through sniper alley but before I comment on that I forgot to mention that I loved johnson in the previous area. His sniper took out the hunters for me. I jumped down and started shooting the hunters and then they turned around to hand my ass to me and johnson took them out with one shot each. Not to mention all the snipers he owned after being sniped in the face a billion times. Ah immortals gotta love them.

So sniper alley.... I would let the bunch of marines run out in front and while all the snipers were focused on mowing them down I managed to take out two of them. The last few of them were dealt with pooping out of cover for less than a moment while continuously spamming the BR in the general direction of my next target.

Some lucky shots and many sets of ammo wasting later I finished off all the snipers. Lucky for me I remembered that invisible elites show up. I carefully advanced charged plasma pistol in hand, But I misfired and had to run away to cover with depleted shields and with several plasma shots already embedded into my over zealous face. That'll teach me to move forward at any speed.

Just when I thought I was safe to let my shields recharge I herd an elite grunting. My hair and knuckles turned white as I ran out of there backing up and turning around revealed to my horror a cloaked sword elite mid lunge towards my testicles.

Luck (and paranoia) were on my side though because I had a plasma pistol charged and ready in hand. I let it rip at point blank range while back peddling. The elite was stunned mid lunge! In that brief second I managed to pop him in the head with the BR.

With a desperate sigh of relief my shields recharged and I slowly approached the other cloaked elite. He was stupidly looking at a wall and with a quick smack to his but the coveted "Check point" appeared and I took a break to tell you of the most harrowing moment of my run so far.

Damn memorable! Glad I am making this journal!!

Rofl, a good read my friend.

Typing live now as stuff happens

A sniper shot went past my left side, bounced off the wall behind me and went past my right side. For a second I thought there was a sniper behind me but no there wasn't.
A sniper on my left missed me twice luck is defiantly on my side.

Something I just noticed. Some of the Elite's plasma rifles look like they over heat in their hands. If true this would be an opportunity to return fire!

lol a grunt stuck a sword elite!!

Man just danced with a lot on foes. Some luck and quick movements saw me through.

Grunts are an annoyance because my paranoia makes me think they are elites when they show up on the radar.

Cleared the area around the IWHBYD skull I am gonna check if it spawned. No I will not be picking up any skulls on this run through.

Nope did not spawn.... I need more BR ammo....

Got to zanzabar hotel, I think my assumption about plasma rifles is correct. I watched an elite stop firing when his rifle looked like it was overheating. Got my BR ammo and heard a marine comment abut reach. Something like wow ....thought they all... on ... Reach. Not sure how to approach next area I feel many deaths coming on.

  • 04.01.2011 10:20 PM PDT

l;abhrfiodj!!

Red elite reminded me to not get cocky and punched me in the face for not pausing to write, Thought I had cleared the area.

The warthog..... something was said like "Here you go directly from captain keys". A grunt stuck it with a plasma before I got to it. Faboom! Guess I am going with a ghost for this run. Speaking of which the one the hog was supposed to take out on it's own just ran over me....

It was "special delivery from captain keys Cheif"..... Got the hog back. Thank you checkpoint.

I think this play by play is too much I am typing more than playing. Was originally planning to make a post a level. Think I should go back to that...

  • 04.01.2011 10:28 PM PDT

Hey, how come the snipers never seem to miss when I'm playing (kicks can around)? You still have snipers ahead but nothing like sniper alley. Not sure why they gave us invincibles after HZ, didn't really need them. At least in the tunnel you can out-snipe the snipers.

  • 04.01.2011 10:31 PM PDT

l;abhrfiodj!!

Think they may have been targeting the one marine that survived with me. but they missed him too. I know lucky.

  • 04.01.2011 10:37 PM PDT

l;abhrfiodj!!

Well I made it. I was dying in the warthog part repeatedly. I finally backtracked to the skull spawn point to pick up the sniper and give it to my warthog passenger. It worked wonders. Later on I decided to step out to pick up the rockets and the hog left me behind and after taking out a ghost or two blew up.... I used up the rockets thinking I didn't have a chance.... Another hog showed up. Too bad I didn't save at least one rocket. I skipped a lot of the tunnel just driving through. Any time my hog got too messed up I would hop out and let it get blown up. Then a new hog would come down the tunnel. And after all that I still ended up walking out of the level instead of driving out.

Two levels complete!!!!

Now comes the question..... Go with the tank next level and shoot everything, or go for the hog and try to blast past foes. I am thinking I will go for the tank, but I remember failing a lot in the tank in the past.....

  • 04.01.2011 11:14 PM PDT

l;abhrfiodj!!

Well half way through. I chose the tank. I managed to keep all three marines alive so I have two with rockets in the tunnel.... I have a bad feeling about this... The tank section was again a lot easier than I remember. The banshies still owned me a few times, but I learned when and where they showed up so I could target them quickly.

FUN FACT!!!: A banshie on Halo 2 Legendary can apparently take a tank round right in the kisser without batting an eye!

Oh and also a wrath shot went right through a bridge at the end and hit me..... I guess wrath shots can go through things....

So yeah I think I am about a third of the way through uh Metropolis is that the name of the level? And I am not looking forward to going through tunnels with jackal snipers, invisible elites, and two trigger happy marines with rockets. This will be interesting!

  • 04.01.2011 11:53 PM PDT

l;abhrfiodj!!

Well got through the tunnels. The rocket peeps weren't as troublesome as I thought they would be. Although they killed all the marines several times they never killed me. One grunt got flipped over onto his head at one point it looked cool. The jackal snipers owned me. But I got through to the outside....

Oh and a first for the run a regular Jackal managed to take me down with his plasma pistol!!! Congratulations Jackal! He totally deserves a medal!!! I didn't feel bad for that death lol.

Oh yeah I got outside and oh damn..... I remember doing this for the catch skull.

: ( : (

The snipers seem to spawn infinitely. No matter how large the pile of Jackal bodies grows they keep appearing and running to that spot in the center. My marines run there too but they all end up dead. The hog lasts only a few seconds before going kaboom. Oh and when I have killed all the grunts and elites Ghosts appear.

Once and I mean Once on this run I managed to board a ghost and I got to the next area with the wrath. Man I shot the heck out of the wraith and the ghosts. My shields went down and I backtracked to let them recharge and,,,,,,, one shot to the head had me start all over from the beginning of the worst place in my run so far. : (

I give up for tonight......

  • 04.02.2011 12:42 AM PDT

l;abhrfiodj!!

Well I just got through the area where the catch skull is. I died countless times. I couldn't figure out how to get the snipers to stop spawning. Eventually I found that if I went right when coming out of the tunnel and killed all of the elites and grunts sometimes the gaus hog would be able to come around again. I managed to stop the hog is a place away from the snipers. I switched out with the driver and cautiously drove around having him snipe the snipers with the gaus hog's weapon. I went to every location in that area because I heard that you have to get to a certain place to make the snipers stop spawning.

I then went to the next area where there are ghosts and a wraith. I would drive around the area and then back out. I did this many times. Eventually I picked up the rockets and used them to take out a ghost or two and I shot the wraith with them a few times. Finally everything in that area was knocked out so on to the next area!

Note for this part: The Gaus Hog is extremely useful if you can get in the driver's seat!

  • 04.02.2011 10:59 AM PDT

Yup, love that Hog. Next part is tough with 3 Wraiths and 3 snipers. The Arbiter is next and that was hard for me until I discovered double needlers.

  • 04.02.2011 11:20 AM PDT

l;abhrfiodj!!

Beat metropolis. I saved a rocket and got a passenger in the hog for the show down in front of the building in the area where the soccer ball is. It was easy with the rockets and the gaus. I picked up more rockets for the scarab battle. I would rocket the foes that appeared on the scarab. I patiently followed the scarab until it got to the place where it gets stuck. A few more rockets to remove those on deck. Followed by more BR plasma pistol. Easy lol

Time for the elite level!!!! Gonna be the Arbiter now!!! I will try to not abuse the camo feature too much lol

l;abhrfiodj!!

Reached the point where you have to use the banshies in the Arbiter level. The run was fairly easy. The hardest place so far was the room with the seraph fighter in it.

But now I have a question. Should I take the banshee and just go to the next area or should I follow the script and do the dogfighting?

Also I think I will go to where the grunt b-day party skull is and kill all the grunts.... I really love the skull and I want to pick it up but I shall not.

oh and on another note I don't think I have ever done the flood area without the infinite sword glitch active....

I need some help with a strategy to survive the elevator with the flood that's gonna be coming up!

  • 04.02.2011 3:16 PM PDT

Yeah, the Oracle elevator. Make sure the sword is full before starting down and the carbine really takes out the flood. That's what I use, sword and carbine and I just run around the center support for cover.

Also, on the Arbiter, what was your weapon(s) of choice?

Plasma pistol and Carbine for most of the run. Plasma rifle for the sentinels.

Yeah, I think you're a better player than me, I used dbl needlers.

Well I got to the heretic leader.

The banshee run was fine. I went with the scripted path and collected a full fuel rod gun along the way in prep for the flood area.

The flood area was a pain. The elevator was not quite as bad as the sniper area in metropolis where the gaus hog is. I used fuel rod gun and sword. I cloaked every time my shields went down. I spent a lot of time spamming fuel rod shots and hiding. When the fuel rod gun ran out of ammo I switched it out for a carbine.

:Note destroy flood bodies!!

The rest of the way to cutting the cable wasn't all that bad. I stuck mostly with carbine and sword and let the heretics and flood finish each other off as often as possible. I hung back a bit too much and whored the camo a bit too much.

So I got to the cable, cut it and then did a speed run to the leader skipping anything that I could and cloaking my way through. I did this for two reasons. 1 I was getting sick of the level. 2 It is an action that makes sense. The thing is falling into the planet core, you know the job needs to be finished quickly!

So now I need help with the heretic leader. I am getting my ass handed to me. I need some sort of trick or strategy because for the life of me I can't even land a hit on him.

This could be the end of my run if I can't kill the leader.... Oh god... I still need to deal with regret too : ( well it is the hardest halo game on the hardest setting. I should expect this....

  • 04.02.2011 9:32 PM PDT

Well, I cheated and used a FR to sword weapon switch. I guessed on the leader and lunged. I can't recall, but the phony leaders might not show a red reticule so I locked-on to the one showing red. I think that's how it went, it's been a long time.

I think others can give better tips on that one.

  • 04.02.2011 9:46 PM PDT

l;abhrfiodj!!

Oh man just did it. Found an excellent strategy to take down the heretic leader. Plasma grenades. On the bottom floor there are a few places where you can hide without being spotted or shot at. Hang out there until one gets close. Activate camo and sneak out really close to the target and stick it. It destroys a hologram and counts as one hit on the leader if you were lucky enough to hit him. Then find cover again quick! Each time you hit him once he leaves and talks and you get a checkpoint. I think it was either three or four hits and he was done.

Have now completed the heretic to oracle. I did not realize that arbiter and oracle were separate missions. So I have now completed 5 playable missions on halo 2 legendary!!

ON TO DELTA HALO!!

  • 04.03.2011 12:56 AM PDT

DH is fun, once I get the Scorpion, it's Regret that's tough for me.

<------Halo 2, Halo 3, Halo 3: ODST, Halo: Reach, and Halo 4 emblem.

You're doing a solo legendary run with all skulls? That's almost impossible!

Although solo legendary was pretty easy in Halo 2 (without skulls, obviously) compared to Halo 1.
