Do i have to do all the Campaign? (On SLASO,) or can i do any level?
The speed runners and the SLASO players play either segmented or non-segmented. So yes, you can play one level at a time but if you want recognition for it you would have to film it from start to finish and then submit it for verification.

Even the filming is tough because you have to film getting all the skulls and then do the level, nonstop. It's a pretty big deal if a guy pulls it off but you would have a hard time convincing everyone without film.

Whole campaign....

Okay, guys, I'm serious, I am going to complete Halo 2 on Slaso. It will take about a month or two, but it will still be a record. The noob combo won't be helpful, but right now all Im scared of is getting the skulls nessecary to do this. You have to do it in one sitting.

Well, you should assemble profiles for each skull and get Blackeye and Mythic and Blind last. The most recognition would come with a non-segmented run but level by level is acceptable too, just not as much glory.

l;abhrfiodj!!

Well folks I am starting it up again! After job interviews, classes, girlfriend, Dragon Quest VI, working on a start up business, and a cat euthanasia, I am once again ready to face legendary!

So last time I was at the big open place with the snipers right before the Regret level. I quickly took care of the Snipers with a few well placed shots, then I jumped off the platform and stayed to the left to avoid the buggers that were spawning.

Note: The buggers were the most difficult part.

Then few elites with plasma pistol carbine to the head and I was onto the level regret.

So to begin I hid like a pansy. I used plasma rifle and pistol and carbine that I had carried over from the previous level to take out the buggers and elites that showed up.

I memorized where all the snipers were outside and took them and the others out from long range.

The hunters that were dropped off in front of the gondola were the big challenge...
I shot at them with sniper rifles. Eventually I got enough lucky hits to knock them down.
I gave the marines that were dropped off snipers and they worked well for me. When another gondola approached I jumped over to it to PP-C the elites.
I got over to the other side and got in the under water elevator. And that brings me up to current.

  • 04.08.2011 11:13 PM PDT

I've had trouble with those Elites and Drones at the end of DH and also the first part of Regret was difficult for me (snipers).

  • 04.08.2011 11:24 PM PDT

l;abhrfiodj!!

Well I just got to the second under water elevator. My marines with the snipers did a lot of the work I had a fuel rod gun with me that I used when the elites came out. Again the hardest thing was the hunters, but they got stupid and I sniped one in the back twice to kill it. The other took up the last of my fuel rod shots. I picked up a sniper off of my now dead marine and used it to clear the next area full of cloaked foes. I then got a full carbine and two plasma pistols for the next area.

  • 04.08.2011 11:27 PM PDT

l;abhrfiodj!!

So I came up the elivator and pretty much pp carbined my way through. The buggers gave me some trouble as well as some snipers.
The second gondola ride was a huge pain. I had to hoard weapons and used rockets like crazy. Two per banshee that spawned. Then the rest of them went into the other gondola that had the jet pack elites and fuel rod grunts. I was owned here many times until luck saved me. After one of my rocket barrages only one grunt and elite survived. quick br and Pp br and it was done. I used the sniper when approaching regret's place.

So

I Just beat profit of regret. I used a br and plasma pistol to deal with any eliets that got close. It was due to a lot of luck, and a glitch. I used the glitch where you can drop a grenade into the profit's shield. I did this many times and hit him many times. With a bit of quick wit and luck I managed to get through, but I DIED A LOT!!!. Seriously I was lucky to make it through it at all. I relied on the glitch to do it I fee a little bad.

So I am at the level with the arbiter and the flood called sacred icon. Gonna stop here for now!

Ive heard tales of that lvel... Watch out for the big open fight with senitels and flood.

I suggest pushing your jackals and grunts onto the gondala with you, they lose their weapons but they can be cannon fodder and distract your enemies while you get out of there...

I knew for sure that I have beaten every other halo game solo legendary because the games recorded it, but I am not sure I ever ran through halo 2 on legendary all the way. I got profiles for all the skulls so I have played every level on legendary. So I therefore am going on a......

halo 2 LEGENDARY RUN!!

So far beat ciro station and it didn't seem as difficult as I remember it. The whole Plasma pistol BR combo has kept me going. I am taking it slow and engaging everything from a distance. I find that plasma shot, duck behind cover, pop out, spray BR three times in general direction of plasma shot, return to cover is the way to go.... However the upcoming Jackal sniping is going to be a pain....

Wish me luck fellow halo players!

I shall keep this topic updated as I push my way through the game.

it's the hardest game, good luck!

I wonder if Halo 2 mythic can be done. How far did you guys ever get on your attempts? I got as far as the final battle before you disarm the bomb on Cairo Station, but I die from the lack of ammo from my guns. It seems to be impossible to beat that game on legendary with all skulls on.
Sounds inviting. I think I'll give it a go without Blind.

Not that people haven't tried. The best H2 players I know have all gotten slaughtered, even the people that beat H3 and Reach Mythic.
Here's what I found so far:

To defeat the boarders, get to the high position above the blasted door. Use the SMG on the Elites while they're distracted by the marines and Johnson. Kill all but one Grunt then get down, cloak, and go through the blasted door to prevent more Covie boarders from spawning. Then take out the Grunt.

If there are any marine survivors, they will recklessly charge at the Covies and die. It seems the best way to beat this part is to have Johnson distract the Elites while you take out the Grunts. Then assassinate the Elites (that is, after they take their swords out and start beating Johnson) while they're distracted. Watch out as you go towards the stairs, as a Grunt may man the turret.

Edit:

I still haven't gotten past the hangar part, but I have found a way to deal with the two Elites that kill the Shotgun marine. Shoot to get them to go towards the stairs and you can assassinate them one at a time.

Although solo legendary was pretty easy in Halo 2 (without skulls, obviously) compared to Halo 1.
I don't understand how people can think this way. I beat Halo CE on Legendary when I was 8-year-old kid, years before Halo 2 came out and I still can't pass some levels on H2 Legendary. (Gravemind, High Charity)

  • 04.12.2011 7:58 AM PDT

Don't worry, you're still your mom's favorite Bnet member.

I finally beat Halo 2 on Legendary in summer 2010. I had been trying since the damn game came out (on and off of course)

Beating H2 on legendary requires different tactics than CE. I love CE, more than H2, but H2 is def harder on legendary, even without the skulls. The main reason it is harder is that many more of your enemies take higher and farther positions away, and are able to reach you with their fire. Jackals and Buggers make the legendary game more of a challenge until you pretty much know what is coming. That comes from playing it alot on Leg. That first time through all levels on leg, boy it can suck hard.

I do think that one mistake often made is to start using skulls before you know the leg levels well enough to anticipate rather than react. The skulls more often than not put you at a disadvantage, why make it harder on yourself before you are ready for that test? I didn't even know about the skulls until I had been playing H2 on leg for almost a year. Once I found out about them I was already good enough on leg to handle them, rather than them handling me!

Halo 2 may have introduced long range combat to a certain extent, but that is not what made it so difficult.

It's actually because of how much damage they deal and/or their rate of fire and/or how weak your shields and health are.

It's also because Halo 2 was experimental. A lot of things weren't perfected until Halo 3 came.

As for the skulls, the problem is Blind. Black Eye is only a problem in some situations (i.e. Cairo Station).

But I can say that Metropolis is definitely doable on Mythic difficulty. The tunnel part might be the most difficult part of the level.

As for Cairo Station, the last battle was a killer for me (i.e. battle rifle headshots not working). I can definitely say that you have to stay in the elevator to take out the Elites. Nailing the closest is easy, but after that, it gets real tough. But when you kill the boss (plasma rifle and needler dual wielder) and/or a lot of Elites - I can't recall really - they will start coming to your position. I haven't tried the hanger battles nor will I attempt it.

As for starting the level with the skulls, it allows me to adapt to the level. I didn't know how Cairo Station worked when I went into it with 14 skulls. But I found all sorts of strategies for making most of it easier (for some parts, I only turned on 13 skulls and for some parts, I used a dev trainer).

First area's easy
second area can be bypassed
I haven't found a way to defeat the third and fourth areas (hanger battles)
fifth area might be doable (I skipped the Stealth Elites using cheats but I was able to easily take out the two Elites that kill the Sergeant)
sixth area can be bypassed
seventh area requires a simple grenade stick (don't cloak, just go towards the Grunts and Elite until you're near the box and stick the Elite and then cloak. Take out the Grunts while the Elite's distracted down below)
in the eight area, cloak as soon as the door on the other side opens, there are two small boxes that you can crouch behind, from which you can stick a Elite Ranger without being seen, and stick the other one, who will be hovering in the air. Then get on the brown box, cloak, and stick the Elite Ranger. To take out the other two Elite rangers, use a long distance n00b combo.
I haven't tried the ninth area, but the plasma grenade explosion doesn't seem to kill Drones. In the event that it doesn't work, target the Drones that came near the metal UNSC shield. I think the Elites and Grunts coming out of the door onto the elevator can be bypassed, but surviving Drones might shoot you if you try to go down.
The tenth area should be doable, although I don't think the bypass trick works.

l;abhrfiodj!!

All right I just loaded my profile and it looks like I did a play through and forgot to type about it. I am now on Quarantine Zone. I remember basically running through sacred icon. Think I used a sword mostly.

I am quite a ways into Quarantine Zone. I am driving a human tank. I am outside the crashed ship area. There are a bunch of flood controlled covenant tanks fighting enforcers. Oh and flood with rockets pop up every now and then and shoot me.

The health of the Player character seems silly. My tank got shot with one rocket. I instantly died, but before the screen cut out one of the elites on the tank switched to the driver seat and killed the rocket flood. How did elite minors survive when the great arbiter couldn't?

Oh well on with the play-through.

Ok I got to the crashed ship. The rocket flood were the biggest issue in the area, followed by the small sentinels. Having an elite with a beam rifle was really helpful. He sniped the sentinels for me. My tank strategy was just hold down the machine gun fire and shoot the main gun at anything that moved as quickly as possible. I also tried to focus the main gun on whatever the sniper elite was shooting at. Now no more tank for me. I surprisingly am equipped with an almost empty br and a sword. I remember using the br at the end of sacred icon now. I was in the sniper tower picking off flood and then jumping down to cut up the bodies. Well now on with the current play-through.

My elites would not get off of the tank at the end of the tank area so I had to flip it over to get them off of it. They then followed me : ) They lasted quite a while. I skipped part of the fighting with the active camo, but still killed many of the foes that stood in my way. As I was exiting the crashed ship I discovered that I really needed to kill everyone in one area so I would camp with camo any time my shields went low. Then I would pop out and cut some fools. I Picked up the rocket launcher and proceeded out carefully. I locked on with three shots to take out the flood controlled covi tank. I then used the remaining rockets on the ghosts that were hanging around. Finally after the area was cleared I took my prize.... ANOTHER HUMAN TANK YAAAAAYYYYY!!!! : )

First think I did with the human tank was take out a flood controlled gaus hog. The gaus hog is only in 2 places in the entire game I think : (

Never mind another gaus hog spawned to kill me : (

Split jaw showed up... He wouldn't get on my tank : ( However he did help me! He took out a ghost right before it killed me : )

I just got the GAUS HOG!!!!!!! I accidentally flipped with a shot from the scorpion!!! : ) : ) Now split jaw should be my gunner I hope!!!!

YES AND THERE WAS ANOTHER ELITE!!!!! NOW I HAVE A FULL GAUS HOG!!!!!!!!!

Never had that happen to me before!

: ( friggen rocket flood ruined my fun : (

Must be a glitch my elites stopped shooting at foes..... Going in on foot with rockets and sword then.... So nice of the flood to leave so much rocket ammo around.

Ah crud..... the gondola ride.... Tons of flood and my weapons won't shoot right... wonderful. Well I am stopping here.

Question: Should I glitch the gondola ride so I don't have to deal with it, or should I do as I have been doing and play it through as it was intended to played?

Well ok I have used one or two special ways of doing things so far, but I would conceder the gondola ride glitch full on cheating....

I usually cheat but it depends on my mood.

Anyway, good read as usual.

use plasma pistol and battle rifle(all headshots on grunts and elites with downed shields) after you overcharge the elites get one shot(2?) through the head. lol that's the only way i can do it.

To be honest, I do not care if you glitch your way through each level, but I do expect that at the end of the game you will type:

I feel bad for glitching as much as I did. Now that I know what to expect I am going to re-do the entire campaign on Legendary with NO GLITCHES and bet her properly.

When I see that, I will be happy. Not trying to diss the OP, the game is a biotch on Legendary, just trying to encourage him to go for it the old fashioned way once he is comfy with the skill level and tactics needed to do this without glitching.

I don't really see finding a hiding place in war a glitch. Yeah, it would be better to kill them all sometimes but hiding to save yer ass is a tactic used in real life.

I've done it both ways just to prove to myself I could do it.
