Coastal swamp hemmed in by cliff drop-offs on 2 sides&ocean drop-offs on 2 sides w/ island
Starts at pre-dawn&time passes
Snow on mountains raining in swamp dry on island
All vehicles
4 bases:
1.cliff top(north) *size* concrete 4 stories(3 above ground 1 below)+ roof *build* mostly rectangular w/ great sniping ledges *entrances* 2 trails up cliff face that converge into one 1/2 way up, doors on east&west, 2 tunnels through cliffs(w/ destructible supports to collapse tunnels) *defenses* 1chain gun on roof 1frg overlooking trails *destructibles* tunnels, all balconies, ledges and overhangs *vehicle location* warthog, north garage bay ground floor
2.caves(west) *size* earthwork 2 stories(both 1/2 in cliff) *build* inside:sidewinder
base-ish with 4 tunnels leading back to a two story cave, outside:perimeter fence made from swamp trees w/ walkways almost at top *entrances* sidewinder front doors&hole in top of cave has rock spiral stairs *defenses* 1chain gun on top of front door 1frg on roof 2shades in cave *destructibles* fence, cave ledges *vehicle location* banshee cave
3.island(south) *size* *build* robin hood prince of theives/ ewok tree fort using palms&bolders (and inside some larger bolders)on the U-shaped island(lagoon facing shore)& 1 tall snipers tree *entrances* only water to reach island, ladders on both ends of U, jump up boulders on south end *defenses* 2frg on boulders next to ladders,2 shades on roof of largest treehouse&boulderhouse *destructibles* every bridge, part of stairs to sniper tree(makes it difficult to reach, not imposible) *vehicle location* other type of flier, or if not one an ATV southside near jump up boulder
4.submerged military compound(east) *size* concrete 3 stories+ roof at water level *build* diamond, bridge from west corner, small 1story tower on east corner *entrances* door in tower, air lock on east corner ocean floor *defences* 1frg on tower 2 chain guns on bridge *destructibles* bridge, air vents on north&south corners(alt entrances) air lock doors(floods base!! anybody else ever try to take out your co-op buddy unerwater at silent cartographer?) *vehicle location* scorpion, on roof

The swamp dominates the majority of this level. Lots of ground cover to hide behind, swampy holes to hide in, and tree canopy cover to hide from cliff snipers& that also hide tree snipers. Small roads w/ destructible wooden bridges lead to the cave base, the submerged military base, a large collapsed tunnel in the east end of the north cliff, and to a large underground bay full of other vehicles. The "beach" is more like the croc hunter show where he's huntin for "salties" in a coastal mangrove swamp.

There are difficult(but not defended)paths up to the top of the cliffs at the southwest & northeast ends that require some crouching&jumping. these also give the avid sniper some nice looks.

my ideas are....

1. the map is like a place at gallipoli in world war wats its place.... trenches with mud......bullets going everywhere, hardly any hitting, but who cares, i reckon it would be awesome.

2.the map is on a UNSC repairship, when the bullets hit the steel it sparks off. see through grating so you just shoot at walls by acciedent.....it would be carnage.

3. rolling meadows... couple of trees not much cover though, awesome for atvs tanks and warthogs. 16 or more players.

well lads id have to say the koolest one low gravity in a canyon where ya can like jump from tower to tower or cliff to cliff yeh well i think that would be sweet i reckon they should have it like red faction so like ya can dig holes with explosives that would rule

I thought some sort of huge vechile arena with tonnes of trees and good sniping spots on the outside for taking out drivers. I also thought making a map based on the outside part of 343 Guilty spark would be fun, as long as no flood were present...

i reckon a map where you are inside an abandoned school and each team starts at opposite ends in staff rooms. there would be a courtyard you would have to cross to get into the other team's base and there would be sniper towers at the edges of the courtyard, but also a decent amount of cover (eg. trees, bushes, walls). you would be able to go and hide inside rooms and look through windows to wait for the enemy to go past and then jump out and follow them. anyway, who wouldn't wanna graffiti their school with bullet holes?

I always thought a Warthog stunt park would be cool, but I guess the Warthog can turn any level into a stunt park.

anyway.

How come capture the flag only has two teams? I want a map with 4-way ctf. Blood Gulch is basically shaped like a rectangle. Take Blood Gulch, copy it, and lay it perpendicularly on top of itself. Follow? The board would be shaped like a big X, and have a base at each end. Warp points to the center of the X from each base. Any team could capture any other teams flag. Lots of vehicles. That could get intense.

I reckon there should be a large indoor dog fighting arena for Banshees and maybe some small Human attack aircraft (if there will be one...). The walls should be lined with open-faced corridors which have Anti-Aircraft weapons on them like gun turrets and rocket launchers. Good luck if you find yourself on the floor!

How bout The rocky mountains in mid winter between Covenent and the Earth? Alot of scorpions, turrets, tanks, warthogs, banshees and make it really big for about 40 people, how good would that be, eh?

ok I,m pritty ready for summer already and i hate school but that circle idead gave me and idea. OK does anyone know what a focus point is in a circle, hyperbola, parabola or ellipse. Well if not heres an example. imagine a a half-pipe and you threw a ball at any point on the walls of the halfpipe, the ball would rebound and hit the same point no matter what every time this point is called the focus . And in 3-d you can have multible foci, so why dont the incorporate that into a sphererical room idea so like if ur being chased 1 fire at the wal would rebound and go straight to that point. of course there can be no objects and its a fun little ffa.

How about taking some cues from the film Cube?(the characters are trapped in a prison in which the rooms move about and to make it worse, are rigged with traps) Ignore the traps for a second and think about a level which shifts and warps. It'd be a nightmare version of Rat Race and Chiron TL-34. It could be done simply with random transporters as well but I like the idea of smaller rooms within larger ones, seeing the shift take place (it might kill you if caught between walls).

It would work well with the suggested Labyrinth/Escher style level where up is not always down. There would have to landmarks and clues to your location and where portals/doorways are going to make it tactical. It could also work as the centre of the Dyson style sphere suggested early on. That way you might be able to make it all the way through or have a centre mass to position yourself on (is that clear enough?). Imagine a set of rooms and cubes shifting themselves so you can see through but then repositioning so you have to land and then move round to the other side (like the idea of having a sphere at the centre of the inside out sphere).

I also think it would be interesting if on a level like Blood Gulch, the bases at either end were complexes like Chiron TL-34 (which I know is a relatively unpopular level but its good for a change). Kind of a Tardis style scenario.

My particular school of thought on level design is to have an interesting concept that lets players develop a number of styles and approaches (it'll help a game last). Unique ideas last and are more fun, whilst forcing someone to play a level a certain way annoys a lot of people. This is a pretty personal viewpoint though.

Phew! Sorry if I belted you all round the face with too many sci-fi references and stuff but I've really enjoyed this thread (my first post on the Underground!) as I'm studying Interactive Multimedia and that includes game design. Let me know what you think please.

I really like the idea of an X shaped Blood Gulch. the tunnel networks in the sides might be able to link up as well for some insane assault tactics.

first of all, there are only foci in parabola's and hyperbola's, because they are open. secondly, what would be the purpose of that? Anybody could realize not to walk through the focus for the simple fact that if you do, you die.

I would really like a city map. With building you can run though, parks, houses, and just stuff like that. but the map would be huge. so it wouldnt be all that fun if you didn't have alot of players.

I mean i would rather have only zanzibar then all the halo 1 maps` In halo 2´.
Ok my map would be a i land map.
In the middle there will be alot of forest there won't be so many sniper spots but there will be some, There would be a small bunker in the middle where there is a energy sword.
It will be like king of the hill in the midle and in the middle there wiull also be a sub machine gun......

well, My idea for a multiplayer map would be an urban map. this map would be modeled after new york city, in a state of disrepair after a long covenant seige. There would be completely destroyed buildings, and some just a little damaged, that would offer great sniping spots, and spots to use a rocket or granade very effectively. The map would feel alot like stalingrad in bf1942, only it would be larger both upwards and would feature larger open(ish) spaces, where snipers could really rule the battle field. Both teams could use hight to there (massive) advantage, or traverse the landscape either running from cover to cover, or stalking the mostly destroyed sewers alot of the map would be medium to close quarters, making good use of the battle rifle. banshies wouldn't be in the fight but all other vehicals would, althogh they couldnt rule the battle because of all the great spots to snipe, rocket, and granade from. there could be holes in the ground, that one could drop into, and travel a short distance in a sewer main into an enemy base or strong held spot, that the sewermain or storm drains would lead too. THe flags could be in buildings on opposite sides of the map, where they could be well defended, but could be attacked from above, for example a flag might be on teh second floor of the building, but someone could climb up to the third(bypassing the second(this is important)) drop a granade, and grab the flag. A cool gametype would be a game type from battle field 1942 were the teams have to try and take the entire map, but cant do stupid suicide charges for loss of men.

Another cool map would be an ardens- forest type map in winter. it would feature tall trees, and a vilage witha mill. it woudl be really hilly with alot of broken ground for cover. it would be a center flag game, where the flag would be in a central village in a valley, and the other team woudl try and take it using their high ground to their advantage.

i would make some of the older maps over with different seasons. it would be fuun to play sidewinder without the ice and snow, and instead, have samps and such. and what about christmas in blood gulch? i also am dying for a covenant city map. how cool would that be? an entire map filled with covie architecture, and culture and stuff. what about an earth city with a boatload of civilians. you could do alot with that! (the only reason i dont suggest a covie city with civilians is bacause im not sure if covies have them)

My multiplayer map should be like the Boarding Action map in Halo 1. Just with no teleporters. It should be with some thin bridges that was hanging over a HUGE gap. On that map it should only the covenant plasma swords should be allowed, or else everyone would get shot as they tried to cross bridge. Each sides is forts. Red team fort and blue team fort. Maybe with minigunsposters at the forts! :D Would love to push of the enemy with my sword on that bridge.

Man come to think of it Ihavenever really thought thisout but.... I am now. The idea of creating your own multi maps for Halo 2 is amazing and although I know it probably wont happen... minewould be something like this.

Based on the very well drawn out map in the original: Hang Em High. My map would be in a very large open room. With tons ofcover but also tons of open ground to roam. The bases in both cornerswould have gatling guns posted and the flag would be on top.

Sorta lame thats the best I can think of but all I really want is a new version of hang em. Bungie please give me what I ask.

What I would want is a forest level. I would want 4 thick forests. I would then place the bases inside of the forest to make it challening to know where you are going and who you are shooting at. Then I would make all hills out of the forest for snipers spots. I would then make in the middle all of the goodies. 4 banshees and 5 each of everything else. I would make sure that there were turrets surrounding the whole entire area, and I would make a tunnel network to the middle and to each others bases. I would also have this one huge tree that stands above all of the forests on each base so you could snipe the people at your base on the other trees or in the middle. That is what my map would look like if I were to make one.

that gave me an idea. i really big thick massive semi-hollowed out tree that had sniper holes and such in them. the destructable enviornment would make this intresting

Onemoreliam I think you are on to a good idea, I think that any map should have lots of different strategys, these ideas from people like one open room with just banshees?
thats a waste of a whole map for people who dont like banshees, personally I play with human weapons and hogs only and so do all my friends, but it might just be us. I like the idea of maps with only a couple sniper spots because chances are if there are alot you will get sniped before you get to snipe anyone else.

I think a good idea for a map is a Chiron type maps with rooms that are much larger, almost as if every room is the size of wizard, with maybe 8 or 9 different rooms.

but again i think the most important thing is being able to customize the gametype alot more... like being able to turn off power ups. And a checklist for vehicles, like lets say you wanted the hog and the ghost but not the tank, on halo 1 you have to pick all vehicles and try to hide the tank or something. Or maybe you want to play human weapons with pistols but not sniper rifles, you either have to choose human which includes rifles or no sniping which excludes pistols. there goes my opinion maybe someone will actually respond to it

I would have some thing like the POA with armories gun turrets and those big ol barriers to deflect bullets. Also bases would be cryo rooms. It would be hella tight.
