Anyways, I have heard it is possible to play Halo: Combat Evolved online on Xbox connect. Can someone give me a hand and tell me how this is possible or how to do it?

you need a high-speed internet connection, hook up your router and all that -blam!-. Then you start xbc and find a Halo game. not that hard.

you go to http://www.xbconnect.com to download XBC
its possible basically because it tricks your box into thinking its at a LAN, but infact its just hooked up to the computer, through the network/internet, and into someone elses box
if you have trouble/don't know how to set up XBC, you can go to http://www.xbconnect.com/help and you should be able to see how to set it up, disable firewalls, etc.

Yes. Halo 2 works because it supports system link.

How is XBC for lag? And can you use voice chat or no?

If it supports Live play and the communicator you can voice chat.

A game like Halo combat evolved lags like crazy over XBC because it was released an entire year before Xbox Live launched. The netcode was designed for use over a high speed LAN (system link) not over vast distances over the internet.

However Halo 2 plays perfectly because it was designed for online play. The game can still lag A LOT due to incompetence of the person hosting the game. He or she may have a low upload and leave the room open so up to 16 players can join during the game thus ruining the experience for everyone.

I'm guessing if the game supports Live play and the person hosting over XBC knows how many he can host with his internet connection you shouldn't have a problem with lag. If it's not Live enabled like Halo you'll most likely going to have frequent lag issues.

actually the lag for halo1 isn't that bad at all, provided you join a room where you have a sub 70 ping, but still, as long as you have 100 ping or below i dont find the lag to be that bad at all

Strange. The lag in Halo 1 is unbearable for me regardless of the ping. I can just feel it in everything I do even when I move around the map. Hosting on the otherhand is perfectly fine so I do it as often as I can.

You're not the only one, and I HIGHLY recommend you have at least a broadband connection. Preferrably if you had a broadband connection with at least a 512Kbps or higher upload speed to host... that'd get things running smoothly...

You need broadband anyways to use XBC, it's a requirement. If you don't have broadband, then you wont even be able to start up, let alone use XBC. The only online tunnel program that is compatable with dial up is Xlink Kai.

as long as youre in a 60 ping or below room, you shouldn't have to lead a target very much, if youre saying that having to lead the target a little is unbearable....then youre going to have to get used to it. Truely playing offhost does infact make you a better player, because you have to think about where your opponent is going to be next, and anticipate their movements. If you can do that, then you should be able to start dominating offhost. But it does take a little time to get used to, but once you do, it not bad at all, infact, some really talented people would rather play offhost than onhost.

I'm more of a Halo PC player and I've fully mastered leading in that game. I play on XBC because my brother is usually using the only PC capable of running the game. Halo for Xbox requires a different kind of leading that I can't adjust to after playing Halo PC. For example I can't seem to hit a stationary target while I strafe madly left and right like I can do in Halo PC. Bullets land left or right of my target depending on which direction I'm strafing. It drives me crazy. On PC I only had to anticipate where my target was moving to and shoot not take into consideration which direction I was strafing towards. There's too much stuff I have to compensate for when I play this game over XBC. My movement direction, target's direction and distance to lead and on top of that the distance to lead in case you're using plasma weapons. When I pass under a powerup on Ratrace I have to remember to stop first and then shoot it down because if I'm moving toward it and fire I'll miss unless I lead. Sometimes when I dodge in and out of cover to chuck some grenades I'd bounce a nade off my own cover. On top of that it seems the framerate is worse off host and my movement/look input with the analog sticks seems delayed because of lag. I don't know how else to describe it. I can't imagine how it would be like to play split screen off host.

In all honesty I rather play Halo 2 than play off host in Halo 1. This game just wasn't meant to be played over the internet. Every game I host I dare not brag over a victory because I know they're at a huge disadvantage to start with.
