Please elaborate. In what does Reach excel in? Firefight was much better in ODST. The waves were better, sets and ect. It actually required teamwork, in Reach all you see is people lone wolfing. ODST's firefight felt more like a squad, Reach is the opposite. You can't really say Reach firefight is better here.

Campaign: ODST wins this by far. Sure, Reach was longer, but what matters is the quality, not the quantity. Reach's story: Predictable outcome, boring (except for LNoS), and terrible personality. Carter tries to be the big guy. But no one gives a -blam!- about carter! Same with the others. The only people that share emotion in this game are Jorge and Halsey.

I really did not care when Emile, Kat, 6, and Carter died.
ODST's another story, though. You can feel the tension between the team, between Buck and Romeo, Buck and Dare. You can see how Dutch just tries to satisfy everyone. Mickey is unsure about his missions. It's all there. Personality. Reach lacked this.

ODST had emotion. Reach did not. Which game touched me more? ODST. Which game will I remember? ODST.

Please. You can read just as much into these characters as Reach's. Halo 3: ODST's characters weren't any better then Reach's. They really didn't develop (much) either. It's just that their personalities were more entertaining as opposed to Noble Team.

All of Noble team was working together and you had some real character development (although, minor). Each character bounced off the other, and it all lead to the feeling that this was a real Spartan team. Jorge and Emile obviously don't share the same mindset. Kat and Carter are in a bit of a co-leadership, with Carter trying to play it by the books while Kat always has an alternative solution. But Carter is clearly in charge. And Jun has is own thoughts and opinions about each situation they're in, such as "The Package" level where he would rather the team find their own way out instead of listening to a machine.

Plus the confrontation with Halsey was exemplary in a storytelling sense. Jorge, clearly friendly with Halsey, does most of the talking. Kat is confronted by someone who is clearly her technological superior, and she's clearly at odds with Halsey from the start. While Halsey feels she's always had control of her Spartans, Carter does not. Her and Carter are at very polar opposites at this point..."Are you a puppet or a Spartan?"..."Just some suggested reading ma'm"... The bit where he gets her back. This moment developed each of the characters, and the unit as a whole.

Point is, both stories in ODST and Reach weren't as good as they could've been since they were character based. Both sucked at it. I love both campaigns, but I'll admit that the characters and story lacked.

Gameplay wise, my friends and I have had more fun in Reach, but ODST clearly has the better atmosphere.

EDIT: Also, I choose Reach.

I would prefer ODST if it has forge and matchmaking. firefight maps and gameplay is better and so is the campaign (well didn't play it all because my disk is broken and keeps reverting back to the start when I hit the 4th mission or something.

ODST

The firefight was far more intense then Halo Reach's firefight, mainly because theres no scare factor of a Chieftan or a Hunter coming.

ODST's Campaign was Insanely Brilliant but it was far too short and it ended with a cliche, the "one of us got hit but otherwise we made it out alive" ending. I was really hoping that Dare would die, she was rather annoying.

If ODST had a multiplayer mode or a Firefight Matchmaking system Im sure it would be able to compete against the other Halo titles out there now.

Yes Halo Reach has more content, but I don't care about the content its about what the content has to offer, for example, Reach's storyline was boring and the only time I felt like it was any good was when Jorge died. I was like "NOOOO NOT JORGE!" ODST actually made me think and care about the characters, whether it be Dutch's Badass but still Wise type of character or the Ladies-Man Marksman known as Romeo.

I'll admit, the conformation with Halsey was the best personality part of the game. But ODST had more of these moments.

Yes, of course noble team had personality, but look at how much more it is emphasized in ODST: Emile says, "Big man forgets how sentimental he is."(or something like that).
Romeo litterely punches you awake and tells you something "Wake up buttercup" in a way that puts you down into the spot as newbie, worst on the team.

The example from Reach wasn't that good, but I rarely play it. If anyone knows a better one then go ahead and say it.

Walk by faith. Dude. Not by sight.

In the Reach forum ODST is holding steady at 32%

In this forum ODST has dropped to 49%.

Walk by faith. Dude. Not by sight.

Lack of multiplayer has been the main reason, despite a superior campaign, more compelling story, and better music.

Vengeance only leads to an ongoing cycle of hatred.

People only pick Reach because it's a full game. I think the better question is: Which story/campaign is better?

It really depends on what you think of the last two levels. Since they're really the only ones that actually had a bigger impact on the Halo universe. Seriously, in Reach, you just fight off Covenant then Halsey calls you down to deliver a package.
In ODST, you just fight off Covenant then Dare calls you down to deliver a package.

ODST wins

  • 04.09.2011 7:13 PM PDT

ha! i broke the tie. i brought it from 35-35 to 36-35

anyways, ODST. See, i like games that give you a challenge, not games that make you feel badass (i.e. spartans)
