I like to -blam!- -blam!- up. It's what I'm good at.

ever heard of a plant becoming infected by an infection? I think the problem is shall we say, lack of compatability.

thing is though, even when they do have a foothold the Flood are in no way impossible to defeat, they just were to the 'dodgy' methods of the Forerunner, the Flood itself, the parasite is vunerable just as much as any other living thing, burning it would be good.

well if those plants are indeed Flood then nothing I would guess, could just remain dormant as well for however long, waiting to assimilate whatever happens to land on the planet. as for them developing technology, they never seem to have any real understanding, they can use a gun sure, but then a toddler can shoot a gun, but he doesn't understand how it works or how to make one, so not sure. sure an interesting topic, the Flood are very rarely mentioned on here to be honest and they are one of the 'forgotten' enemies of Halo.

Yes?

ever an ailment that affects normal animals as well though, since the Flood affect people and what not, not a biologist but to many infections, etc. adapt from one type of host to another?

The games don't give an accurate depiction of the Flood. The feral stage is more or less space zombie, that is controllable if you do it quickly. But once they gain a foothold, the Flood's FSC would adapt to any countermeassure employed against it, becoming essentially unstoppable.

The flood are a parasite, and their hosts need to have a brain.

Don't worry, you're still your mom's favorite Bnet member.

Their hosts must have a central nervous system and, in turn, a brain.

Photosynthesis requires chlorophyll, which is a component in a cell. The Flood is not capable, to my knowledge, of forming new organelles. They can change the function of a cell, but they are always animal cells, not plant cells.
