Subject: Spartan III's Question

I'm sure this has been mentioned before, buy how did Bungie make Noble team's age seem correct? Even though in Onyx the Spartan III's were still kids.

OMG a Pwny!

There's really not much to match up. They all fit into teams mentioned in Onyx, except Carter, my theory is Carter was frozen when Biko was glassed, kept in cryo until a home was found, instead of being put into a home he got put into the Spartan program.

The Spartan III program happened very shortly after the Spartan II program.

The Spartan III project started in 2531, Reach takes place in 2552. Alpha and Beta Company Spartans were fully grown adults at this point. The "kids" from Gamma Company are the latest batch, fresh out of training, and therefore younger than Noble Team.

Carter apparently was the oldest conscripted Alpha, at age 11.

Yup. And Buck was 42 in ODST on paper, much less physically because of time in cryo-sleep when one does not age in body. Same goes for Johnson who is old date-wise but relatively young physically because of cryo.

Exactly, we don't know exactly how old biologically Carter was when he joined the SIII program, I don't think he would have spent all that much time in cryo, but I am pretty sure that 11 was not his biological age when he joined up.

They don't seem older in Reach, in fact kat seems to be older then 21 years
And i don't think the putted SIII in cryo-sleep, they were always in missions

Noble Team were around much longer than most Spartan IIIs, went on alot more missions, meaning travelling more, therefore lots of cryo.

Weird, so kat should look MUTCH younger than she does.

How long is a piece of string? What age should a 21/22 year old look? For example, I'm 22 and without being too self-deprecating, I look older than I "should". There is no set standard for what a woman her age should look like, especially considering the varying circumstances involved in her life; war, augments, cryo etc.

Perhaps she looks older because she is battle hardened?

carter was born in 2520 and was recruited into alpha company in 2531 making him 11. spartan IIIs were 4-6 when recruited. kat wasnt to for off. she was born in 2530 and beta company was formed in 2537. jun was also 1 yr to old he was born in 2524 and was apart of alpha company. Emile was born in 2523 and apart of Alpha company. Again spartan IIIs were recruited at the age of 4-6, Alpha company was formed in 2531 and Beta in 2537.

does cryo stop you from growing when you are a little kid? if it does i guess this makes a little sense, but i still dont think they would do that.

Yes, cryo stops ageing/physical growth. Theoretically, the older candidates could have been kept in cryo for prolonged periods of time making their numerical age increase while they physically stayed the same. These Spartans could have been candidates from the Class 2 of the Spartan II project and when the program went bust ONI "stockpiled" potential Spartans for future use.

Interesting idea, Switch, I wouldn't put it past ONI to have a "stockpile", just the sort of thing those bastards would do XD
