Hey there, I've been doing a cheeky playthrough of the Halo 1 Campaign for the PC (epic nostalgia!) however I've encountered some severe framerate degradation at certain bits (particularly outdoor, snowy areas of Halo).

Unfortunatly I couldn't tell you the first thing about my computer's specs except that it's a laptop, runs Windows Vista and has an exceptionally large screen for a laptop (the thing's massive - even has a seperate number pad, which is rare enough for a laptop!)

I think that the problem stems from the large screen and the fact that my graphics card (or whatever) can't keep up. For example, I also notice framerate degradation when I try to watch movies full-screen, which can get quite irksome, but trying to play Halo brings things up a notch.

Putting the game's settings to minimum detail etc. doesn't help all that much, I was just wondering if anyone else has any advice? Perhaps there's a way to shrink the game window a bit so my computer can keep up with Master Chief and his shenanigans?

Thanks!

Yeah. That's right. I don't have a 50 in H3. I never got Onyx in Reach. If a game sucks too much, I won't even bother trying for such trivial "accolades". Besides, I've done way more things that take far more skill and talent than anything that can be done in a video game.

Close background programs and make sure you're running on 640x480. Other than that, there isn't much you can do.

It's actually one of the problems with Halo PC. It doesn't have the greatest framerate out there, but, it's not really that much of a deal. Just do what DusK suggested and it will be better. You'll sacrifice some of the graphical beauty, though :/

Yes, I am a hypocrite, and I'm sorry. I really do mean well, but I'm not running on all cylinders.

Everytime someone buys a copy of Halo 2 Vista, a puppy dies.

My main source of FPS drops were decals. You could try turning them off in the options.

You should download and install a program called "game booster" its supposed to help frames a bit, though i never used it as my pc is powerful enough.

Also update your graphic card drivers

Performance can also be increased by changing "30 fps" to "no v-sync".

Hope this helps!
